FY 2016 Annual Report

Celebrating 35 Years of Service to Victims of Domestic Violence

MISSION STATEMENT:

Family Rescue is dedicated to eliminating domestic violence in the Chicago community by

providing comprehensive support services and shelter to victims of domestic violence,

particularly abused women and their children; engaging in advocacy to promote future system

change; and encouraging prevention through community education.

PROGRAMS BY THE NUMBERS

Rosenthal Family Lodge (RFL)

(RFL) is an emergency shelter that offers victims

immediate assistance and up to 120 days of shelter. RFL

assists families in breaking the cycle of homelessness due

to violence. RFL provides individual, group and family

trauma counseling, individual case management, and

assistance transitioning to permanent housing. RFL also

houses Family Rescue’s 24-hour bilingual crisis line for

those seeking services any time of the day or night.

Ridgeland Apartments and

Children’s Program (RAP)

(RAP) is a two-year subsidized, supportive housing

program with an after school program. RAP is a

national model that operates under the theory

women with children who are traumatized by

domestic violence and are then forced into

homelessness face unique barriers in developing

and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle.

In 2016 LAP provided services to: Legal Advocacy Program (LAP)

(LAP) offers legal advocacy to its clients at no cost. LAP offers

victims access to key resources necessary to navigate through

the criminal justice system. Advocates act on behalf of victims

and their children, ensuring their safety and rights are

protected under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act. Staff

members provide court accompaniment, advocacy with law

enforcement and judicial personnel, assistance in obtaining

orders of protection and crisis counseling.

In 2016 COR provided services to:

Community Outreach Program (COR)

(COR) offers survivors prevention education and financial

literacy classes to enhance their ability to obtain and

maintain independence. COR offers community-based

support groups for survivors of domestic violence in both

English and Spanish. COR does extensive outreach in the

Latina community, a population often neglected and

underserved, and conducts community awareness and

prevention seminars and workshops related to

understanding the dynamics of domestic violence and

preventing it from continuing.

emergency orders of protect,

214 also successfully secured a

plenary order of protection.

YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK

-Of the 34 women and children that exited Family

Rescue’s Ridgeland Apartments & Children’s

Program in FY’16, 30 moved into safe permanent

housing.

-100% were still housed and living violence-free at

the 6– month follow up.

-55.4% of children departing from the program

receiving services from the LCSW showed a

decrease in behavioral and emotional problems.

While 57.1% of children still participating in the

program receiving services from the LCSW showed

a decrease in behavioral and emotional problems.

-Of the 236 women and

children that exited Family

Rescue’s Rosenthal Family

Lodge Program in FY’16, 168

moved into safe

permanent housing.

-91% were still housed and

living violence-free at the

6-month follow up.

-32% of clients maintained or

increased their income from

program entry to exit.
