SECTION PUBLICATION DEADLINES
The International LawyerTo submit an article to The International Lawyer, send an electronic copy in Word format to [email protected] or a hard copy with an electronic Word-formatted copy to the Editor-in-Chief, The International Lawyer, Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, P.O. Box 750116, Dallas, TX 75275-0016, (214) 768-2061, fax (214) 768-1633. Articles should not exceed 10,000 words (including endnotes). Text and endnotes should be double-spaced. Endnotes must conform to the most recent edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (18th Ed.). The journal cannot accept unsolicited student-written submissions, nor does it consider articles or reports that have been or are to be published elsewhere. Manuscripts receive a peer review, which usually takes three to four weeks. Publication is normally six to twelve months after a manuscript is accepted. Material accepted for publication becomes the property of the Section, which pays no fee for any manuscript.

The International Law NewsThe International Law News (ILN), the Section’s newsletter, keeps Section members informed about current international law developments and important Section news. The ILN publishes articles on breaking issues for practitioners in the international arena to assist them in gaining helpful insights into hot issues and obtaining concrete how-to advice on practicing international law in the marketplace. The ILN also publishes regular columns on public and private law initiatives, pro-and-con columns on breaking issues of general interest, survival guides to international cities, and careers. ABOUT THE ABA AND THE SECTION
The American Bar Association (ABA) is a voluntary membership association of more than 350,000 lawyers—representing about half of the practicing lawyers in the United States—and is the world’s largest professional, voluntary membership association.
The Section of International Law is one of 22 sections within the ABA and has more than 20,000 members worldwide, including a significant percentage of members who are U.S. lawyers practicing abroad as well as non-U.S. lawyers. The Section’s purpose is to serve its members through:
• promoting interest, activity and research in international and comparative law and related areas;
• diffusing knowledge thereof among members of the legal profession and others;
• formulating professional opinions thereon;• promoting professional relationships with lawyers similarly
engaged in foreign countries; and• implementing Goal IV of the Association, “to advance the rule
of law in the world.”
The Section is the only Association entity that focuses solely on the full range of international legal issues, ranging from public and private international law, to cross-border transactions and disputes, to the regulation of international trade and development, to foreign law. Due to the growing and already immense scope of international law and institutions, we often work with other ABA sections and entities, numerous bar associations abroad (particularly national and local bar associations outside the United States), and a variety of international institutions and organizations.
Members of the Section are predominantly lawyers in private practice, including substantial numbers of corporate counsel, government and NGO lawyers, law school deans and professors, human rights activists, law students, and LL.M. candidates. Lawyers who are not licensed to practice in the United States may join the American Bar Association and the Section, and such lawyers are eligible to hold any position in the Section up to and including Section Chair.

The Executive Committee is authorized to decide matters normally within the competency of the Administration Committee that may arise between regularly scheduled Administration Committee meetings. ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
The Administration Committee is the governing body of the Section with regard to the Section’s finances, operations, and administration, subject to review by the Council. The Administration Committee consists of the 10 members of the Executive Committee and the following Section Officers: Policy/Government Affairs Officer, Publications Officer, Rule of Law Officer, Technology Officer, Diversity Officer, CLE Board Chair, Communications Officer, Three At-Large Members, the Section’s Immediate Past Co-Chair and a Senior Advisor. The ABA Board of Governors Liaison is a non-voting, ex officio member of the Administration Committee.

The Council is composed of the Executive and Administration Committees and the members listed below. The Council identifies, considers, debates, and approves Section policy, including but not limited to approval of Section Reports and Recommendations to be referred to the ABA House of Delegates for approval and approval of Section co-sponsorship of Reports and Recommendations initiated by other Sections. The Council may approve by email ballot Reports and Recommendations and requests for blanket authority that are initiated by the Section between regular meetings of the Council.
