FX Server

The FX Server is a software product that expands the capabilities of one or more FX Supervisory Controllers. The FX Server collects, stores, and provides access to large amounts of information (such as alarms, events, and histories) sourced from one or more FX Supervisory Controllers. The FX Server also coordinates the integration of multiple FX Supervisory Controllers networked together on a single project by providing network-wide automation and coordination, such as master scheduling, system-wide database management, and integration with enterprise software applications.

Overview The FX Server is a software package that resides and runs on a third-party computer hardware platform. The FX Server connects to one or more FX Supervisory Controllers and expands their capabilities by providing the following:

• large-scale, centralized storage for events, alarms, histories, and graphics

• master scheduling

• system-wide database management

• integration to enterprise software applications

• FX Energy Suite

Common Applications Common application examples for the FX Server include the following:

• a large building, requiring more devices than a single FX Supervisory Controller can handle

You can network together multiple FX Supervisory Controllers, where each controller supervises a section, floor, or wing of the building (via a hub or over the intranet to support the required number of field devices). Then you can use the FX Server to centralize the user interface; act as the master scheduler; and store alarms, events, and histories for the entire project.

• a collection of buildings (for example, a school district) that require the centralization of multiple, remotely located FX Supervisory Controllers

You can network together multiple FX Supervisory Controllers, where each controller supervises an entire building, over the Internet. Then you can use the FX Server to centralize the user interface; act as the master scheduler; and store alarms, events, and histories for the entire project.

• a project that requires additional performance from a single FX Supervisory Controller

You can use the FX Server to connect to a single FX Supervisory Controller to:

− increase the alarm, event, and history storage capacity of the FX Supervisory Controller

− allow more concurrent users to access the FX Supervisory Controller

− provide additional storage space for graphics

Web-Based User Interface The FX Server’s web-based user interface (Web UI) provides system-wide monitoring and control capability via a web browser. The Web UI capability is embedded in every FX Server, allowing users to access the system via a web browser over an Ethernet LAN, Internet, or dial-up modem connection.

When you create your Web UI pages, you can choose from a full library of colorful, graphical symbols including:

• HVAC equipment

• duct work

• coils

• piping

• control devices (for example, dampers or valves)

• widgets (for example, buttons, tables, or hyperlinks)

In addition, you can import your own digital images (for example, a floor plan .jpg file) and incorporate them into your Web UI.

FX Workbench provides you with two sets of factory-designed, standard application graphics to include in your Web UI. One set is designed for viewing with a full-sized computer screen, and the other set has been optimized for viewing with an iPhone® or iPod touch® handheld device. When you import a controller with a standard application, both sets of graphics can be automatically generated.

You can view devices, points, schedules, alarms, and graphics with the convenience of a wireless handheld device. You can also acknowledge alarms, command points, and modify schedules. The user interface updates dynamically, so that when changes are made to the FX Supervisory Controller configuration, these changes automatically appear.

Standard Features Centralized Scheduling For projects that consist of multiple FX Supervisory Controllers, the FX Server can operate as a centralized interface to all connected FX Supervisory Controller schedules.

The Schedule Export or Import Manager provides the ability to determine when and how the schedule synchronization occurs.

The FX Server UI provides the same visual method to configure the schedule time and date as the FX Supervisory Controller UI (Figure 4), which provides a consistent look and feel to operators.

History Archiving The history archiving feature allows the automatic transfer of histories from one or more FX Supervisory Controller to the FX Server. Use the archiving histories feature when long-term or large capacity storage of history records is required or when a project consisting of multiple FX Supervisory Controllers requires centralized storage.

The History Export or Import Manager provides the ability to determine when and how the archiving process is executed. The FX Server UI displays the data either graphically (Figure 5) or in a sortable table. You can also export stored data in a txt, PDF, or CSV format.

Alarm Archiving and Management The FX Server provides an additional alarm routing option for one or more FX Supervisory Controller. You can route alarms to the FX Server if there is a requirement for long-term storage capacity of alarm records or if a project consisting of multiple FX Supervisory Controllers requires centralized alarm management.

The FX Server’s Alarm Console provides users with a variety of options to view and manage alarms, including sorting, acknowledging, silencing, and tagging (Figure 6). You can also export alarm records in a txt, PDF, or CSV format.

Optional Drivers Device Network Drivers You can add Ethernet-based device drivers to the FX Server to integrate devices into the FX Server station database. The optional device network drivers include the following:

• BACnet IP

• MODBUS® Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)

• Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) for Process Controls (OPC)

• oBix® driver

Each driver lets you import up to 500 points from the driver network and, if more points are needed, you can add in 500-point blocks.

Note: OPC client drivers are not supported if installed on the Windows Vista™ operating system.

Enterprise-Level Database Drivers You can add enterprise-level database drivers to the FX Server. These drivers allow you to export archived data in the FX Server to the desired enterprise-level database format. The optional database drivers include:

• Microsoft® SQL Server™ database

• Oracle® database driver

• IBM® DB2 database driver

FX Energy Suite

Facility Explorer Energy Suite is an optional feature that you can add to the FX Server. Facility Explorer Energy Suite assists in visualizing, analyzing, and planning energy cost saving strategies. You can collect data from meters connected to FX Supervisory controllers via BACnet, LONWORKS®, N2, MODBUS, or OPC. FX Energy formats the data into easy to understand reports that help you make informed energy cost saving decisions about your building and your enterprise. You view FX Energy reports from an Internet browser, which gives you access to energy information any time from virtually anywhere.

There are two categories of reports, Energy Profiler and Cost Profiler.

Energy Profile Reports

Use the Aggregation Analysis report to view the total energy usage of multiple meters and multiple buildings. You can use this report to also negotiate better energy contracts based on actual usage patterns.

Use the Average Daily Profile report to see how consumption and demand vary throughout the day and plan strategies to smooth peaks and shift demand to less costly times of day.

Use the Enterprise Ranking report to determine the best and worst energy performers. You can also use this report to determine where to focus your efforts to improve energy cost performance.

Use the Relative Contribution report to view individual meters in a single report. This report helps you see where reductions in energy are most likely to have the highest impact.

Use the Equipment Operation report to compare the run-time of lights, air handlers, chillers, and other equipment within a building or across the enterprise to see that everything is being used appropriately. You can easily see if a load is being left on at improper times.

Use the Spectrum Summary report to quickly see anomalies in equipment use. Irregularities are readily seen in patterns produced by the color mapping of this report. In this report, you can quickly analyze large amounts of data at a glance.

Use the Exception report to define a normal range or let FX Energy statistically calculate limits to see when data values fall outside of desired conditions. This report displays the counts and shows the duration of out-of-bound conditions.

Use the Load Duration report to view the amount of time at various load levels. You can also use this report when planning demand limiting strategies.

Correlation Use the Correlation report to view how energy usage relates to changes in temperature or specific processes like production output.

Cost Profiler Reports Cost Profiler reports include demand side and supply side analysis for you to manage your facility’s energy usage and cost. You can track energy bills, compare to budgets, see high cost areas, and plan improvement actions. You can also view the effect of various rate schedules on the energy budget for a building, a campus, or the entire enterprise.

Cost Ranking Use the Cost Ranking report to show how energy costs are spread over your areas and buildings.

Cost Contribution If you use sub-metering, use the Cost Contribution report to see how categories of usage affect your total energy bill.

Bill Reconciliation Use the Bill Reconciliation Report to compare your calculated values with the values billed by the utility. You use this report to find billing errors.

Rate Comparison Use the Rate Comparison report to see if you can reduce energy costs by changing rate schedules or changing energy provider. You can select various rates, and FX Energy shows you the difference in cost of actual past usage.

Budget Plan and view the energy spending and compare spending with budget costs. You can create the budget manually, or you can automatically base the budget on historical data.

What-if Analyzer Use the What-if Analyzer to test various energy usage or energy cost strategies before implementation. For example, you can see if creating a demand limiting strategy actually reduces costs before you put the strategy into place.

BACnet Operator Workstation (B-OWS) Along with the functions of the BACnet/IP client driver, the BACnet Operator Workstation feature provides the following BACnet functionality to the FX Server:

• Presentation of data (reports and graphics)

• Setpoint and parameter modification

• Alarm/event parameter adjustment

• Operator notification and presentation of event information

• Acknowledgement of alarms by operators

• Alarm summarization

• Adjustment of analog alarm limits

• BTL listed as B-Operator Workstation(B-OWS)

BACnet Advanced Operator Workstation (B-AWS) The BACnet Advanced Operator Workstation feature provides the highest level of BACnet monitoring and control functionality to the FX Server. In addition to the BACnet Operator Workstation functions listed in the previous section, the BACnet Advanced Operator Workstation feature also provides the following BACnet functionality to the FX Server:

• Ability to monitor the value of all BACnet object types, including all required and optional types

• Adjustment of alarm routing

• Creation of new event enrollment and notification classes

• Presentation of event logs

• Creation and deletion of new objects

• Ability to silence a device on the network that is transmitting erroneous data

• Ability to reinitialize a remote device

• Ability to backup and restore the configuration of other devices

• BTL listed as B-Advanced Operator Workstation (B-AWS)

These features, along with BTL Listed FX Supervisory Controller (B-BC) devices and BTL Listed FX-PC Programmable Controllers (B-ASC), provide a top-to-bottom, BTL-listed BACnet solution for those projects that require the interoperability that BACnet enables.

Open Automatic Demand Response (OpenADR) Driver for FX Server The OpenADR standard outlines a communication model that uses the Internet to send Demand Response signals to end-user facilities to reduce energy loads. You can use OpenADR programs in commercial, industrial, and residential settings to reduce cost, promote interoperability among DR technologies, and allow utilities and energy providers to better manage pricing and critical load issues while actively engaging with consumers.

OpenADR programs let utilities collaborate with end-user facilities to curtail energy consumption during peak usage via automatic load shedding. An OpenADR program involves three parties: the utility or energy provider, the Demand Response Automation Server (DRAS), and the facility that is consuming the energy.

The OpenADR simple client driver provides network integration between the Facility Explorer building automation system and the Demand Response Automation Server (DRAS). Currently, this driver is compatible only with the Akuacom DRAS.

FX Workbench FX Workbench is a software tool that lets users configure the FX Server station. FX Workbench is fully integrated into the FX Server software, letting users configure the FX Server station directly or remotely through a web browser connection.

FX Workbench includes many labor-saving configuration features, such as:

• online discovery of LONWORKS® and BACnet devices and points

• online discovery of N2 devices with assisted importing of N2 points

• a check box method to enable and disable points and create point extensions, such as alarms, histories, and totalizations

• intuitive managers for grouping points, creating master schedules, and linking points

• a library of predefined systems, with associated graphics, points list, and default features

• automated graphic page creation
