Chairman’s Report

I am very pleased to present the Future State Greats Ltd Annual Report for the year ended 30 June 2015.

Our core belief is that the positive virtues of sport can make a difference to the lives of our young people and contribute to the betterment of society. Our “niche” gives us the ability to alleviate some of the financial pain for families and ensure that Queensland students in need have the opportunity to participate in school sport.

In this regard there can be no doubt that 2015 was a successful year as our Aspirations4Kids in Sport project assisted 324 Queensland families in need by providing $157,000 in funding (up 23%) to offset the cost of participation in school sport. Notably, this increased activity was achieved without any corresponding increase in our operational costs.

More of our school Principals from all over Queensland nominated families in need for support as the message of the assistance we provide spread through the community. Incredibly, our Facebook posts reach an average of 15,000 people each month and over 1,000 people attended our functions throughout the year.

Future State Greats is only able to operate due to the generous support we receive from the Queensland people. My sincere thanks to Steve Targett and the staff of QT Mutual Bank Ltd, Department of Education, Training and Employment Director General Dr Jim Watterston and Executive Director Nick Seeley and our Captain’s and philanthropic donors who have not only provided financial support to our cause but actively been involved in promoting our organisation within their networks.

To my fellow directors Liz Pidgeon and Holly Whitcroft as well as Phil Muller from the Queensland School Sports Unit, I thank you for your commitment and freely giving of your time to further our cause. Thanks to Company Secretary Grant O’Hara and his wife Julie-Anne Dietz for their work in making the “Stumped Healy Bowled Warne” event an outstanding success. Finally, to our General Manager Peter Lamb, I thank him for his dedication to Queensland sporting families, our cause and its value.

Chairman – Ian Healy

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

Yours in sportIan Healy – FSG Ltd Chairman

To our Honorary Accountant Scott Whyte of Whytes Accounting and our Auditor Geoffrey Stephens of Williams Hall Chadwick, I thank you for your kind contributions and ongoing support.

I would also like to acknowledge our inaugural Life Member Mr Kevin Brasch who was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List being made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to rugby league football, at local, state and national level, to primary education, and to school sports. A deserving award for a life well lived. Congratulations Kevin.

A special mention to the staff, customers and members of Scotpak, Ord Minnett, QHA, Brisbane Broncos Charity Fund and the Brisbane Advertising Association who named our Aspirations4Kids in Sport project as the beneficiary of their fundraising efforts during the year.

Finally, to our Ambassadors, Laura Geitz, Brenden Hall, Jharal Yow Yeh, Jared Watson, Kyle Potgeiter, Sabteca Fejo, Sekou Kanneh, Grace Zylstra, Lakeisha Patterson and Mesele Gebre, thank you for selflessly giving your time and voice to supporting our organisation.

It is a wonderful thing to be a part of an organisation that is helping to change the lives of our young people and I am looking forward to finding our next great story.

OUR AMBASSADOR’S

STORIESThrough the generosity of our Future State Greats Supporters and the work of the Australian Sports Foundation via the Aspirations4Kids in Sport project, our organisation exists to support stories like these:

Grace “The Swing Doctor” Zylstra

Aspirations4Kids in Sport beneficiary and former Runcorn State High School student Grace Zylstra is about to complete her first year of a 3 year Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree at QUT. Grace, who was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship, has set herself a goal of obtaining her PHD and specialising in neuroscience. Along the way, she is training three nights a week and playing every weekend in the hope of making the Queensland Open Women’s Baseball team to compete at the National Championships in Canberra. A strong hitter, Grace will be doing everything she can to impress the selectors and one day make the National Open Women’s Baseball team.

Ambassadors to Rio

With a bit of luck, and a lot of hard work, Aspirations4Kids in Sport could have two Ambassadors in Rio come 2016. While there is still a lot of laps to be swum, being selected in the Australian Paralympic team for Rio is the ultimate goal for Lakeisha “Lucky” Patterson and Brenden Hall. “Lucky” is currently world ranked in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle as well as the 100m backstroke and the relays. Similarly Brenden, a current world champion, is hoping to qualify in the 50m, 100m and 400 freestyle, 100m backstroke and butterfly, the 200m IM and the relays.

Racing the Clock

Indooroopilly State High School student Sekou Kanneh is literally racing the clock as he strives to get his 100m time under the magic 11 seconds before the end of 2015. The profoundly deaf athlete has overcome some injuries of late to post a Queensland record for a 13 year old over the distance. Sekou is also making great strides off the track having recently gone out of his way to share his experience with another young deaf athlete in the hope that he can make the road she has to travel a little easier.

Family and Community

Aspirations4Kids in Sport beneficiary and Ambassador Sabteca “Tilly” Fejo has some clear goals for one so young. This talented North Queensland athlete, who has represented in Basketball, Track and Field, Netball, Rugby League and Touch Football is hoping that her skills on the sporting field will help her gain a university placement so she can become an accountant. Tilly then hopes to return to Innisfail and use her skills to continue her family’s work within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

OUR EVENTS

Future State Greats Elite LunchQueensland Cricket at Albion again played host to the annual Future State Greats Elite Award luncheon as 150 guests celebrated the outstanding achievements of 24 school age athletes from around Queensland. Dr Jim Watterston, Director General of the Department of Education, Training and Employment was joined by a number Queensland sporting stars to present the $500 bursary and pair of ASICS training shoes to the recipients. Who knows how many of these young boys and girls will go on to achieve great things both on and off the sporting field in the future?

Stumped Healy Bowled WarneFuture State Greats Chairman Ian Healy caught up with old mate Shane Warne and 720 guests at Brisbane City Hall to raise money for our “Aspirations4Kids in Sport” project. The “Stumped Healy Bowled Warne” event is the first of what we hope will be an annual “must attend” event on the Brisbane business calendar. Media identity Robert “Crash” Craddock and Diamonds Netball Captain Laura Geitz hosted the event which was well supported by the who’s who of Queensland Sporting legends and the Queensland public. The event was a resounding success with over 300 Queensland families in need benefitting from the proceeds.

Future State Greats Golf Day32 teams battled it out at Indooroopilly Golf Course for the title of 2015 Future State Greats Golf Champions. In what was a close fought event, the honour went to the team from Austec Building Automation who have been long-time supporters of our Aspirations4Kids in Sport project. The players relaxed after the event by listening to some stories from Future State Greats Ambassador Sekou Kanneh and all dug deep to raise enough money to assist a further 50 Queensland families in need.

Captain’s Club LunchCricket legend Merv Hughes was this year’s special guest at the annual Captain’s Club lunch. The Queensland Cricketer’s Club was the venue for one of our most important events as it is Future State Greats chance to say “THANK YOU” to our supporters for their generous donations of time and money. Without their support, we simply do not exist. 100 guests gathered to listen to some great stories from “Merv” as well as learn a little bit more about Australian Wine from one of its leading Vintner’s in Geoff Merrill. No doubt his product has something to do with the fundraising which saw over 30 Queensland families benefit as a result.

CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION OF A COMPANY

Future State Greats Limited (A Company limited by Guarantee)

Independent audit reportTo the members of Future State Greats Limited

Report on the financial reportWe have audited the accompanying financial report, being a special purpose financial report of Future State Greats Ltd, which comprises the statement of financial position as at 30 June 2014, the statement of comprehensive income, statement of changes in equity and statement of cash flows for the year then ended, notes comprising a summary of significant accounting policies and other explanatory information, and the directors’ declaration.

Director’s responsibility for the financial reportThe directors of the company are responsible for the preparation of the financial report that gives a true and fair view and have determined that the basis of preparation described in Note 1 to the financial report is appropriate to meet the requirements of the Australian Accounting Standards and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 and is appropriate to meet the needs of the members. The directors’ responsibility also includes such internal control as the directors determine is necessary to enable the preparation of a financial report that gives a true and fair view and is free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error.

Auditor’s responsibilityOur responsibility is to express an opinion on the financial report based on our audit. We conducted our audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. Those standards require that we comply with relevant ethical requirements relating to audit engagements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial report is free from material misstatement. An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial report. The procedures selected depend on the auditor’s judgement, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial report, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control relevant to the company’s preparation of the financial report that gives a true and fair view in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the company’s internal control. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates made by the directors, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial report. We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our qualified audit opinion.

IndependenceIn conducting our audit, we have complied with the independence requirements of the Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012.

Basis for Qualified Opinion Donations & Cash Income - Cash donations area a significant source of fundraising revenue for Future State Greats Ltd. The company has determined that it is impracticable to establish control over the collection of cash donation prior to entry into its financial records. Accodingly, as the evidence available to us regarding fundraising revenue from this source was limited, our audit procedures with the respect to cash donations had to be restricted to the amounts recorded in the financial records. We therefore are unable to express an opinion whether cash donations recroded are complete.

Qualified Opinion In our opinion, except for the possible effects of the matter described in the Basis for Qualified Opinion paragraph, the financial report of Future State Greats Ltd is in accordance with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012, including:

(a) giving a true and fair view of the company’s financial position as at 30 June 2014 and of its performance for the year ended on that date; and (b) complying with Australian Accounting Standards and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Corporations Regulations 2013.

Auditors Independence Declaration under Section 307C of the Corporations Act 2001 I declare that, to the best of my knowledge and belief, during the year ended 30 June 2014 there have been:

(i) no contraventions of the auditor independence requirements as set out in the Corporations Act 2001 in relation to the audit; and (ii) no contraventions of any applicable code of professional conduct in relation to the audit.
