New Canadians, Cielo Vaca and her husband Manuel Garcia have two children, Juan aged 18 and Monica aged 16. e Garcia Vaca family moved to Canada in 2005 from Colombia. Manuel is an industrial engineer with a Major in Finance and Cielo is an economist also with a Major in Finance. Since arriving in Canada, language difficulties have kept them from being able to work in their chosen fields. Even with Manuel’s education in Business Accounting and Human Resources, it has been very hard for him to find a job in those areas. Both parents are working to keep a small rented house where the family has lived for almost 7 years. When asked why they applied to buy a Habitat home Manuel said, “It will give my children a chance to have independence, having a place to call our own. Better living conditions and more space.” e Garcia Vaca family have finished the 500 hours of Sweat Equity required to move into a Habitat home, as well as their HOPE training. is provides our families with practical knowledge of home ownership; focusing on things like household budgets and home repair solutions. This month, we would like to highlight our amazing volunteer Rick Wray, who has recently become a Site Supervisory in

St Thomas. Thanks to Rick’s amazing support, we’ve been able to have volunteers onsite each day, and we continue to move towards the com-pletion of this home! Rick comes to Habitat with a wide array of experi-ence in home renovations and general handyman work. We are so happy to have his help, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his time and hard work!

_ Shout out to habitat Western Habitat Western did an on-campus build on March 31. They built an 8' x 12' shed that was donated by Lowes, right on campus to bring awareness and support to Habitat. The completed shed was then donated to Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario.
