Future Freight Networks – The ALC Yearbook 2015

Dear ALC stakeholder

Following the success of the Australian Logistics Council (ALC) 2014 Yearbook Future Freight Networks, it is with great pleasure that I invite you to take part in supporting the industry publication for 2015.

ALC is the peak national body representing the major Australian logistics supply chain customers, providers, infrastructure owners and suppliers. ALC is the only industry funded body in Australia that focusses on improving the productivity, efficiency and safety of Australia’s supply chains.

3000 copies of Future Freight Networks are produced and it is mailed to all federal and state/territory members of Parliament, all local government Mayors, the CEO’s of Australia’s major listed and private companies, as well as ALC Members and senior government officials in all transport and infrastructure departments.

ALC works to promote and encourage greater recognition by Government and the community of the importance of the freight logistics industry’s contribution to Australia’s economy. For example, ALC estimates the Australian logistics industry represents 8.6 percent of GDP, adds $131.6 billion to the Australian economy each year, and employs 1.2 million people. Furthermore, a 1% increase in efficiency would boost GDP by $2 billion.

In light of these findings, ALC encourages government at all levels to ensure it gives appropriate consideration to the needs of freight in its investment and policy decisions in order to maximise its benefits to the national economy. We remain focussed on the provision of national legislation and regulations for the industry, and on ensuring that Australia has nationally significant infrastructure to meet our rising freight task. We will also continue to scrutinise proposals from all levels of government that might impact on supply chain efficiency.

Future Freight Networks 2015, produced in conjunction with Executive Media Pty Ltd, will build upon the impressive standard that has been set by the previous year, providing information on the key issues currently facing industry members.

The journal-style publication will be the must-have resource for insight into the important logistics policies, priorities and projects and will showcase the reasons for Australia’s social and economic dependence on the transport and logistics sector. It will also contain a feature on the ALC Annual Forum 2015, themed ‘‘Delivering for Australia’ which will attract 300 senior industry and government executives at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, 10-12 March.

Future Freight Networks 2015 is a unique vehicle for reaching key decision makers at the highest levels of industry and government. Future Freight Networks will deliver your message to every major player in Australia’s Logistics industry.

I encourage you to discuss an advertising package with Executive Media.

Yours sincerely

MICHAEL KILGARIFF Managing Director

Future Freight Networks – The ALC Year Book 2011

Dear ALC stakeholder

After the success of the Australian Logistics Council (ALC) Yearbook 2010, it is with great pleasure that I introduce Future Freight Networks – our exciting new official annual publication.

The transport and logistics (T&L) sector is an integral part of Australia’s social and economic success, and is critical to the operations of modern society. The industry is worth $150 billion to Australia each year and generates almost 15 per cent of Australia’s GDP.

Given this contribution, Governments are increasingly looking to ALC for a view that reflects the depth of the T&L industry and the efficiency of the total supply chain. In response to that requirement, ALC is now positioned as the lead advocacy organisation to all levels of Government and industry on freight T&L supply chain regulation and infrastructure issues.

The ALC Yearbook 2010 was a great success with stakeholders, decision makers, industry and government. As well as reaching a wide range of industry players, copies were distributed to senior government officials including ministers and shadow ministers in the national, state and territory parliaments, as well as senior officials in transport and infrastructure departments.

Future Freight Networks, produced in conjunction with Executive Media Pty Ltd, will build upon the impressive standard that has been set by the ALC Year Book 2010, providing topical and timely information to industry members.

This new journal-style publication will be the must-have resource for insight into the policies, priorities and projects of ALC, and will showcase the reasons for Australia’s social and economic dependence on the T&L sector.

Future Freight Networks is a unique vehicle for reaching key decision makers within the highest levels of industry and government. Its distribution parallels the T&L industry, as Future Freight Networks delivers your message to every major player in Australia’s T&L sector.

I encourage you to discuss an advertising package with Executive Media.

Yours sincerely

MICHAEL KILGARIFF Chief Executive Officer

Future Freight Networks

The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) is Australia’s only national freight logistics industry association advocating to all levels of government and industry on freight supply chain regulation and infrastructure issues. ALC Members are major companies participating in the Australian freight transport and logistics supply chain, including:• transport and logistics providers and owners

• logistics facilities, such as ports and/or intermodal terminals

• transport and logistics infrastructure owners

• retailers/manufacturers/suppliers/consignors.

Associate Members include associations, government agencies, organisations and companies participating in the Australian freight transport and logistics supply chain.

As the official yearbook publication of ALC, Future Freight Networks is the must-have reference for transport and logistics (T&L) operators and the broader industry. The publication will provide editorial content to showcase the major issues in Australia’s T&L industry, all the while looking towards the future of Australia’s freight networks.

Editorial will focus on improving the productivity, efficiency and safety of the freight logistics industry.

It will also provide detail on ALC’s advocacy efforts which focuses on ensuring there is appropriate recognition of the needs of freight in all policy decisions. For example, Future Freight Networks will include summaries of:

• The Economic Significance of the Logistics Industry which shows that inefficiencies in the industry will cost Australia dearly unless all governments continue to focus on reform of regulation and infrastructure.

• ALC’s advocacy to improve urban planning around key freight routes; identifying and protecting key freight corridors; and ensuring road, rail, port and intermodal facilities keep up with freight demand.

Future Freight Networks provides a unique opportunity to reach all of the major players in the T&L industry, through distribution via key channels and to senior industry stakeholders. We look forward to discussing an advertising package to suit your needs.

Feature topics intended for the 2015 edition include:

• Harmonising regulation and reducing bureaucracy.

• Getting more investment in infrastructure and investment reform

• Identifying and efficiently delivering key infrastructure projects

• Planning for the whole chain from production to consumption

• Greater use of high-productivity vehicles

• Establishing a network of efficient intermodal facilities

• Greater use of railways

• Giving freight a voice in urban planning
