CANADIAN EMBASSY GUARD HOUSE & SECURITY UPGRADE
Pearce McComish Tarabuku Architects were in 2012 engaged by the Canadian Embassy in their Security
Upgrade Project (Guard House and Sally Port). The scope of the works involved preparation of working
drawings for submission to local authorities for plan approval as well as project management of the building construction. The project was successfully completed in 2013.

ZIMBABWE STOCK EXCHANGE RELOCATION
In 2014 PMTA were commissioned by the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange for Architectural work and project
management of their relocation from Harare’s CBD to Reitfontein.
The project consisted of refurbishment of a double story house on 2 acres to an office building with a
circular glazed entrance, reception, dealing room, interview room, information center, press room,
visitors’ room, library, meeting room and the executive offices on the first floor. There was extensive landscaping and new parking for 23 cars.

IMF RELOCATION- NEW ZIMBABWE OFFICE AT 12TH
FLOOR, ZB HOUSE
In 2014 PMTA designed and project managed the office layout for the new IMF Zimbabwe offices at ZB
Life Towers. The project was spread out over 6 months and all deadlines were adhered to.

CABS
Pearce McComish Tarabuku Architects were commissioned by Old Mutual Properties to carry out the
design and project management of two new branches (Kelvin Corner and Southerton). The projects
involved implementing the banks new branding guided by their branding guidelines. Works on the two new branches were successfully carried out with both branches being handed over in December 2015.

ZIMBABWE ENERGY REGENERATION AUTHORITY (ZERA) ZITF STAND
In 2014 PMTA designed the ZITF stand for the Zimbabwe Energy Regeneration Authority (ZERA) in
Bulawayo.

MACROECONOMIC FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT INSTISTUTE (MEFMI)
In 2010 PMTA were engaged by MEFMI to refurbish an existing building and design to construct a new
office building adjacent to the existing one in order for the property to be used as the institution’s new
offices in Newlands, Harare.
PMTA successfully managed to design and manage the construction of a new office building to meet the
client’s design brief requirements as well as the refurbishment of the existing one.

GATEWAY HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL
At the beginning of 2011, PMTA were commissioned by Gateway School Trust to design a swimming pool
and Change Rooms around the future site of the
School’s indoor sports precinct. Studies of the
proposed site were undertaken so that the pool and ancillary buildings would fit into the overall master-
plan of the school. The school was so placed as to
dialogue with the existing classrooms, future Multi-Media Building Cluster and field sports facilities. A
25 x 13 metre, 8 lane pool was laid out in what would
be the focus of such ancillary buildings as the
Gymnasium, indoor sports, the Change Rooms and a future Cafeteria. Only the first phase of the state of the
arts Change Room has been completed. When
complete, the Change Room buildings would consist of an upper viewing platform that would also be used
as a viewing platform of the sports field behind.
The pool and the change rooms were completed at the
beginning of August 2011, within budget and on
programme. To the left is a planted terrace made of the soil removed from the pool. Landscaping works
progressed well to this recent addition of the pool. The
pool was designed according to FINA regulations and records broken at regional galas will be internationally
recognized.

CUSTOMS BORDER POST, PLUMTREE

The Border Post, situated on the border between Zimbabwe and Botswana,
includes customs and immigration facilities, a State Warehouse and staff housing. The commission also included the site layout and landscaping.

Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe
Completion 1992
The main building is a two-storey complex of offices designed around internal courtyards. The project also includes warehouses, laboratories and a gemstone
cutting workshop.
MBARE POST OFFICE, HARARE
Post and Telecommunications Corporation
Completion 1996
Sub-Post office located adjacent to the main market and rural bus station at
Mbare.
NATIONAL BOTANICAL GARDENS INTERPRETIVE CENTRE,
HARARE
Completion 1995
This European Union funded project aims to improve the educational capacity
of the Gardens, and includes a restaurant building, an auditorium / office
building, and a large glazed desert house. There are plans for a future tropical house.
COMMERCIAL SECTOR
EASTGATE, HARARE City Centre Properties (Pvt) Ltd Completion 1996
With a total building area of 55 000 m2 and 26 000 m2 of office space, Eastgate is the
largest development of its kind in Zimbabwe. An atrium extending the full length of the
building contains a shopping mall with nearly fifty shops, restaurants and a food hall.
Eastgate successfully pioneers the use of passive cooling on a commercial scale. -

HURUDZA HOUSE, HARARE
Agricultural Finance Corporation Completion 1992
A sixteen story development, was commissioned as a result of winning an architectural
completion with Jackson Moore Architects. Control of climatic factors, without the use of
air-conditioning, has been successfully achieved by careful facade design. This new
headquarters for AFC comprises a banking hall and 8 500m2 of office accommodation.

The unusual and economical design of this office development achieves a remarkably high
percentage of lettable area (85%). The six upper floors provide 6 600 m2 of prestige office space, arranged each side of an internal courtyard. -IAZ Award of Honourable Mention

A unique shading system and a richly planted courtyard help moderate climate in this city
centre building.
HEAVY ENGINEERING WORKSHOPS HARARE Zemco Division of Astra Holdings Completion 1993
This project included extensions to two heavy engineering workshops and the construction
of a new workshop for the maintenance of Caterpillar earth moving vehicles.
KELVIN CORNER DEVELOPMENT, HARARE
Old Mutual Properties Completion 1993
A light industrial development consisting of fourteen multi-storey factory units and seven
shops. A new concept in industrial accommodation, each unit has a mezzanine level, and the units are arranged on three levels, with a goods lift connecting to a ground floor
loading bay.

NKULUMANE SHOPPNG CENTRE, BULAWAYO Old Mutual Properties Completion 1997 (Phase 1)
When complete, this will be the largest shopping mall in Bulawayo’s high density
suburbs. It is designed in three phases, the first phase providing 12000m² of retail area
including two supermarkets and approximately fifty shops. The final phase will include
four cinemas.
FOOD COURT AND SPORTS CAFE, HARARE
Innscor Property Services Completion 1995
Open 16 hours each day, 365 days a year, with bars, a restaurant, dance floor and 75
television monitors bringing the latest in sport to its customers, Chisipite Sports Café is
the first of its kind in Zimbabwe. It was designed and built in 11 months.
NEWLANDS FOOD COURT

Completion 1998 Situated in the heart of Newlands Shopping Centre, this development
includes a variety of five different ground floor food outlets. The first floor is the
central depot of a catering organization, with offices, central kitchen, warehousing and
related facilities
STER KINEKOR CINEMA, FOOD COURT AND RESTUARANT COMPLEX
Robert Mugabe Road, Harare Completion December 1998
This large entertainment centre, includes six cinemas, a food court, restaurant and video
games arcade.
HINDOO TEMPLE, HARARE
Hindoo Society Completion 1991
IAZ Award of Excellence 1994 A new temple designed as a modern interpretation of
Hinduism relating to the life of the contemporary Hindoo in Africa.
HOUSE CASTLE, HARARE Completion 1992
IAZ Award of Excellence 1994. An overhanging roof and simple open plan - with full
height windows, enable the interior of this house to remain cool in Summer and warm
up quickly in Winter. Set in a garden of indigenous trees and plants, it takes full
advantage of the views into the garden and distant vlei beyond.
TERRACED HOUSES, KASISI GARDENS, HARARE
Halmac Travel (Pvt) Ltd Completion 1992
On a long and narrow site in Avondale, this terrace of nine houses has been ingeniously
designed so that each has a separate entrance and enclosed garden. This scheme is
successfully let as high quality fully serviced apartments.
RECENT PROJECTS
HEALTH SECTOR
Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, Chinhoyi
Government of Zimbabwe
The practice has been involved with all aspects of this new 350 bed hospital including
development of the brief, site planning, detailed design, services coordination and
contract supervision. The hospital includes a large out patients department, four
operating theatres, a labour wing, laboratories, pharmacy, and the provincial laundry,
together with mortuary and boiler house.
Other work on site includes staff flats and housing, a nurses’ training school with
residential accommodation, the provincial medical stores, and landscaping. Total area 50 000m2

Paediatric Unit, Harare Hospital
Preliminary design and feasibility study for new Paediatric Unit comprising casualty
department, out patients department, theatres, intensive care unit and special wards,
general wards and administrative department.
Maternity Unit, Mpilo Hospital, Bulawayo Preliminary design and feasibility study for new Maternity Unit comprising Labour
unit, anti-natal, and post-natal wards, theatres and administrative department.
District Hospitals Phase 1, Zimbabwe
Preparation of construction and contract drawings for 9 district hospitals, based on
designs prepared by Ministry of Public Construction and National Housing.
Botswana District Hospitals. Extension Requirements Study
We were asked to survey seven existing district hospitals (100 to 250 bed units in small rural towns) the state of their buildings, infrastructure, and equipment, staff resources
and medical data of the districts population with a multi-disciplinary team. We had to
then make architects brief and to propose outline design alternatives for the expansion
programme.
