I Find Myself Alone

I find myself alonefor the first time in a long whileeveryone has leftbut I don’t care I stand here at the windowand look down the streetwith a reminiscent stareand wonder what will end upwith them allhow will they all fare?

rain drops fallingI hear them callingto me to go outsideget my head wetsoak my feet in the mudtwirl my armsstare up into the skyand join the cloudsin their joyous rapture

lost in my mindand unsure of how to get out

reliving all the things from my past

that I have cared to forget

old man sitting on the porchchain smoking cigarettesMarlboro of courseand in between each sipof his scotch whiskyhe would smile at meand tell me what’s duewhat ails the worldand what he would doall the plans that he had

all the reasons to fix itmake the world a better placebefore death makes him kick itleave something to his kidsother than money, status and societal wealthfunny I always thought he had forgotten about loveuntil the endwhen through the morphine hazeand his drug induced stuporhe had my handand said I love you sonand it was with thatall the evils were undone

driving the truckdown the dirt roadthe same roadwe drove on beforeheading down to the same old ditchthe same old ditch where we first did kissthat same first kiss where you said to methat I was the one for youand this was all meant from heaven to beand all I knew

was that I was going to get under your skirtlittle did I realize all the commotion and hurtthat all that would causethe chaos in our livesthe great fallbut here we aredriving down that roadthat same old roadthat started it allbumping in along in an old pickup trucka little high a little tipsytwo beers from drunkstereo is loudand it’s time to kiss you

Christopher L. Jones  is an author, poet and artist

living in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Originally born inTucson, Arizona, he has been a survivor of mentalillness, specifically bi-polar disorder, for most of hislife. A graduate of New Mexico State University witha degree in Philosophy and Theater Arts, he hasspent over twenty five years contributing to thevarious performing arts groups in his community.His work has been described as "masturbating onthe world’s stage in verse" and "...exactly what is

wrong with the average white American male..."Christopher started writing after being introduced topoetry as a form of art therapy as a teenager andhas not stopped since. Aside from working withwords, he is a single father of one.

Having majored in technical theater and artsmanagement, Christopher has been active backstage since his childhood, mostly working in theareas of lighting and scenic design, sound design,

properties design, stage management andproducer.
