Annual calls

Women in Science - für Wissenschaftlerinnen mit Kindern Junge Wissenschaftlerinnen sollen von häuslichen Aufgaben entlastet werden. Die damit gewonnene

Zeit gibt ihnen die Möglichkeit, trotz der Doppelbelastung weiterhin wissenschaftlich auf hohem Niveau

tätig zu sein. Wir wollen mit unserer Stiftung dazu beitragen, dass sich in Zukunft mehr hochqualifizierte

Frauen an der Spitzenforschung in Deutschland beteiligen können.

Jährlich werden drei Doktorandinnen für die Dauer eines Jahres gefördert. Die Unterstützung beträgt

höchstens 20.000 Euro pro Doktorandin und beinhaltet drei Dimensionen:

1. eine monatliche finanzielle Entlastung von bis zu 400 Euro für Haushalt oder zusätzliche Kinderbetreuung, um den Forscherinnen zusätzliche Zeit für die wissenschaftliche Arbeit zu geben.

2. Ein individualisiertes Karriere-Förderprogramm mit Komponenten wie z.B. Coaching, Mentoring, Karriereseminare.

3. Eine im Sinne der Förderung zweckgebundene finanzielle Leistung an die jeweilige Forschungseinrichtung.

Zusammenhang mit einer bereits begonnenen akademischen Dissertation stehen.

Bewerben können sich Nachwuchswissenschaftler/innen, die am Beginn ihrer Promotion stehen. Nach

Abschluss des Stipendienaufenthalts führen sie die Promotion an ihrer Heimathochschule zu Ende. Mit

Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz: Sulzmann-Stiftung Förderung von ethnologischen, sozial-, sprach- und literaturwissenschaftlichen Forschungen in und über

Afrika mit besonderer Berücksichtigung des Kongo und seiner Nachbarregionen bspw. durch die

Unterstützung der Feldforschung, finanzielle Unterstützung bei der Auswertung der

Forschungsergebnisse aus der Feldarbeit, die Ausbildung zu vorgenannten Aufgaben oder Ermöglichung

von Publikationen durch Druckkostenzuschüsse.

Insbesondere soll die Forschung von Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftlern gefördert

werden. Gefördert werden Forschungsvorhaben von Magister-, Master- und Promotionsstudierenden;

nicht gefördert werden Vorhaben von Bachelor-Studierenden.

Bewerbung

Die Anträge sollen in der Regel mindestens drei Monate vor Beginn des Forschungsvorhabens

eingereicht werden. Es gibt zwei Antragstermine im Jahr:

• 1. Mai für Forschungsvorhaben, die frühestens ab Ende Juli/August des gleichen Jahres beginnen

Call for Application: ATSAF - CGIAR++ Junior Scientist Program Information on providing funding to students for thesis research at International Agricultural Research

Centers

With around 350 members ATSAF – Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Tropische und Subtropische Agrarforschung

e.V. (Council for Tropical and Subtropical Research) connects key players in German development-

oriented agricultural research. This includes professors of German universities with a focus on

development-oriented agricultural research and a matching teaching concept, that supports the training

of young researchers in this field. Contacts to and stays at International Agricultural Research Centers

are invaluable in bringing young scientists early on to practice. For many years, ATSAF has been funding

congresses travel grands and preparatory project development trips to International Agricultural

Research Centers (IARC) for young postdoctoral researchers.

With our “ATSAF - CGIAR++ Junior Scientist Program” financed by BMZ via giz BEAF, we support students

in completing their Master’s degree and enables them to gain practical experience in project-based

scientific work at an International Agricultural Research Center. For this purpose, ATSAF in collaboration

with giz BEAF will support M.Sc. students in conducting their research to create a Master's thesis at one

of the CGIAR++ centers.

• Completion of at least five semesters of agricultural sciences or another development-related degree course (e.g. biology, geography, sociology, veterinary medicine, marine biology, forestry, political sciences, law, etc.).

• Enrolment at a German university.

• Very good command of the English language. In some countries, knowledge of other languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Arabic) may be advantageous or even required.

• High degree of sensitivity towards the culture in the country of assignment; team player; ability to work under pressure; willingness to assume responsibility and to work independently.

• Confirmation from an International Agricultural Research Center that a supervisor for the candidate is identified and the research topic is accepted.

• Confirmation from a University supervisor to support the application and the research topic. Your stay at the international research center should be for six months and is exclusively for research,

not for thesis writing. Keep this in mind when drafting the work plan. Please include the date of the

planned departure or the start of work abroad.

Only the period you will spend abroad can be supported.

Research projects aiming at the preparation of a PhD dissertation cannot be supported.

topic as master/diploma thesis. Once you have been accepted, the fees contract that will be concluded with ATSAF e.V. will provide a

lump sum (paid out in two payments) for travel and cost of living. For the duration of the stay abroad,

the students have to conclude an international health insurance incl. medically necessary home

transport and an international liability insurance before they go.

UniKassel: Call for completion scholarship Scholarships to enable Ph.D. candidates at the University of Kassel to complete their doctoral thesis The

University of Kassel is seeking applications for as many as four scholarships to enable Ph.D. candidates

to complete their doctoral thesis in order to promote projects that are well-advanced at the University

of Kassel in 2020. Target group Ph.D. candidates at the University of Kassel are eligible to apply if they

are just about to complete their doctorate. Amount of the scholarship the scholarship is worth EUR

1,200 per month. A supplement of EUR 200 per month is possible for candidates who are looking after

children.

The 8th International Nitrogen Initiative Conference (3 – 7 May 2020) The 8th conference of the International Nitrogen Initiative (INI 2020) will be the meeting point for

scientists from all over the world who are dealing with reactive nitrogen compounds in agriculture,

industry, traffic, soil, water and air. It will be the place to exchange results, ideas and visions to improve

future holistic management of reactive nitrogen in order to further reduce hunger and poverty and at

the same time avoid further hazards for human health, biodiversity and environmental media. It will be

a perfect opportunity to engage with important policy makers and other relevant stakeholders. A joint

conference declaration based on the latest scientific knowledge might stimulate further policy action

towards effective integrated nitrogen management.

INI conferences are held every three years on different continents. After the first conference in the

Netherlands in 1998, INI 2020 is the first time it will be coming back to Europe: To Germany, the place

where about 100 years ago scientists Fritz Haber and Carl Bosch invented industrial ammonia fixation, a

major source of today’s reactive nitrogen circulating through the biosphere.

UniKassel: “Active Reading – Active discussions in English“ About the workshop In this activating workshop, the participants will explore various didactic methods

that help promote students’ academic reading and discussion skills. We will engage in methods to

discuss your questions in this context and evaluate their suitability in your classrooms. Key principles

and practices in up to date Academic Higher Education will help choose appropriate methods for your

teaching settings. A central focus will be how to trigger students’ motivation and active participation,

according to the ”Shift from teaching to learning“ - a leading principle in European Higher Education. By

the end of this workshop, you will be able to plan and create learning sequences in a structured way,

allowing your students to participate in their native language and/or English actively, even when English

is not their native language. Arising issues in an international classroom will be experienced and

addressed, as we will have an international group of participants in this workshop.

Einstein Fellowship Awarded by the Einstein Forum and the Daimler and Benz Foundation The Einstein Forum and the Daimler and Benz Foundation are offering a fellowship for outstanding young thinkers who wish to pursue a project in a different field from that of their previous research. The purpose of the fellowship is to support those who, in addition to producing superb work in their area of specialization, are also open to other, interdisciplinary approaches – following the example set by Albert Einstein. The fellowship includes living accommodations for five to six months in the garden cottage of Einstein`s own summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg, only a short distance away from the universities and academic institutions of Potsdam and Berlin. Senior Advisor Programme + register as under-/graduate student (Uni Kassel) The Senior Advisor programme supports international and PhD students. Mentors are able to pass on career and professional experience to people interested in intercultural exchange within the city and region. The advisors participating in the scheme come from different professional backgrounds so as to mirror the broad spectrum of experience that is available in the labour market today. The current stage of planning in this project is to have the main pool of senior advisors, develop corresponding procedures to match the students with appropriate advisors and have accompanying events where the advisors and students initiate contact; it is also necessary to guarantee the quality of the programme. Förderung für Aufenthalte internationaler Gastdozent_innen (Uni Kassel) Für die Einladung internationaler Gastdozent_innen kann über das Referat für Internationalisierung und Internationale Kooperationen eine finanzielle Unterstützung beantragt werden. Anträge können noch für das kommende Wintersemester 2016/17 oder für das Sommersemester 2017 gestellt werden. Die mögliche Aufenthaltsdauer beträgt zwischen einer Woche, die mit ca. 750,00 € unterstützt wird, bis max. zwei Monate, die mit ca. 3.000,00 € unterstützt wird. Voraussetzung für eine Förderung ist die Einbindung mit einem Umfang von min. 6 SWS in die Lehre für die Dauer des Aufenthaltes. Für die Beantragung dieser Unterstützung bedarf es eines formlosen Antrags mit Begründung des Antrages, Lebenslauf und Publikationsliste des/der Gastdozent_in sowie einem Entwurf der geplanten Lehrveranstaltung(en). New "Science4Refugees" initiative The European Commission has launched the “Science4Refugees” initiative for asylum-seekers and

refugees with a scientific background.

Projektförderung der Karl Schlecht Stiftung (KSG) Die Karl Schlecht Stiftung (KSG) nimmt Anträge auf Projektförderung entgegen, sofern die Vorhaben

ihrer Satzung und ihren Förderschwerpunkten entsprechen. Dabei sind die Innovationsfähigkeit,

Nachhaltigkeit, Vernetzung des Vorhabens zur Schaffung von Synergieeffekten sowie die Originalität des

Projektes entscheidend. Die Stiftung misst ferner dem Eigenanteil des Antragstellers sowie seinem

Bemühen um die Gewinnung von Förderpartnern große Bedeutung zu. Sie vergibt keine Mittel zur

Schließung von allgemeinen Haushaltslücken. Rein institutionelle Förderung, die nicht projektbezogen

im Sinne der Karl Schlecht Stiftung (KSG) ist, kann nur in Ausnahmefällen und nur zeitlich begrenzt

erfolgen. Die Ziele der Projektidee müssen klar benannt werden können. Ein Förderzeitraum von fünf

Jahren sollte nicht überschritten werden. In sachlich begründeten Ausnahmefällen kann ein

Förderzeitraum von maximal 10 Jahren beantragt werden.

Rosa Luxemburg Foundation for dissertations and research stays in Germany The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation is one of the largest political education institutions in Germany today

and sees itself as part of the intellectual current of democratic socialism. The foundation evolved from a

small political group, “Social Analysis and Political Education Association“, founded in 1990 in Berlin into

a nationwide political education organisation, a discussion forum for critical thought and political

support for Foundation stipend holders working on PhD or research projects can be extended by up to

DAAD: Förderung ausländischer Gastdozenten zu Lehrtätigkeiten an deutschen Hochschulen Das Programm zielt darauf ab, die Internationalisierung der deutschen Hochschulen zu fördern und die

Angehörigen des Mittelbaus, Graduierten (z.B. Doktoranden / -innen) und Studierenden aus

Deutschland und den Partnerländern. Antragsberechtigt sind deutsche Hochschulen, die Förderanträge

für fachbezogene Kooperationsvorhaben auf Instituts- oder Fachbereichsebene stellen, wenn zwischen

den Partnerhochschulen schriftliche Partnerschaftsvereinbarungen geschlossen worden sind. Diese

sollten grundsätzlich auf Ebene der Hochschulleitung abgeschlossen sein und können in Einzelfällen

nach der Bewilligung des Vorhabens nachgereicht werden, müssen dem DAAD aber vor Ausstellung des

Zuwendungsvertrags vorliegen.

Volkswagen Stiftung – Projekte für außergewöhnliche Forschungen Unter "Offen - für Außergewöhnliches" werden herausragende Vorhaben gefördert, die einen

innovativen, außergewöhnlichen und fächerübergreifenden Forschungsansatz verfolgen, sich jedoch

außerhalb der aktuellen Förderinitiativen bewegen, gibt es das Angebot "Offen für Außergewöhnliches".

Hier fördert die Stiftung herausragende Ideen, quer zu Disziplinen und zum Mainstream. Das Angebot

"Offen - für Außergewöhnliches" ist also Ausnahmefällen vorbehalten. Anders gesagt: Wer hier zum

Zuge kommen will, muss mit seinem Vorhaben nicht nur höchsten wissenschaftlichen Maßstäben

genügen, sondern auch plausibel darstellen können, dass sich im Rahmen der Förderangebote anderer

Institutionen keine Unterstützung für das Projekt finden lässt. In jedem Fall sollte vor Beantragung über

das Antragsportal der Kontakt zum Förderreferenten des entsprechenden Fachgebietes aufgenommen

Volkswagen Stiftung – Summer schools The Volkswagen Foundation did set up the funding initiative “Symposia and Summer Schools” to support

events in all subject areas dealing with new ideas and research approaches. The Foundation also aims to

encourage innovative event formats as well as new ways of supporting interaction and networking

among the participants.

Scope of Funding

Funding can be made available for symposia, workshops, and conferences (usually up to 50 persons) as

DFG: Initiation of International Collaboration Applicants interested in establishing collaborative scientific relationships with partners abroad may

apply for funding for trips abroad, guest visits or for exploratory workshops.

Purpose

This funding instrument serves to establish collaborative relationships between international partners.

Three different modules are available: “Exploratory Workshops”, “Trips Abroad” and “Guest Visits”.

Eligibility Requirements

Researchers who have already achieved their doctorates and who are working in the German scientific

system may apply. Special rules apply to members of non-university research institutions (see

guidelines).

Type and Extent of Funding

If several different modules will be used during a short time frame and doing so will enable cooperation

preparations to be made particularly effectively, the modules may be combined. The funding remains

available for a maximum of 12 months after the approval date, and the individual collaborative

measures must be carried out within this time frame.

Funding is available for the following collaborative measures:

Trips abroad (max. three months) or guest visits in Germany (max. three months);

Exploratory workshops. Where such agreements exist, these measures may also be funded jointly by

partner organisations abroad.
