Fundamentals of Prayer
2
Do we place ourselves in a position to receive from God?
What is our posture?
What does our demeanor say about us?
3
The position and posture we assume in communicating with God is the basic fundamental of our prayer life.
In other words, pray with expectancy!
4
“And it was [so], that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and
supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands
spread up to heaven” (1 Kings 8:54, KJV).
5
“And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and
Acts 2:46

When entering into God’s presence, the attitude of the heart is of utmost importance.
The frequency of our communication with the Lord speaks to the attitudes of the heart. The attitude of our heart dictates the contents of our prayer.
7
“Servants, obey in all things,
your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers;
but in singleness of heart, fearing God:”(Col. 3:22).
8
“One thing have I desired of the LORD,
that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all
the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD,
and to inquire in his temple” (Ps 27:4).
9
The pleasures of life should not take priority over seeking after the Lord.
Prayer reveals our purpose.
10
“When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies
to be at peace with him” (Prov 16:7).
11
God is not interested in lip-service.
The workable formula is “when a man’s ways please the Lord.”
“These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Matt15:8, NIV).
12
When we are filled with His Spirit, God changes our identity from within.
Only then will He change our thoughts, desires and purpose. Only God’s Spirit enables and transforms us so that we have singleness of heart and purpose, and then our ways to please the Lord.
13
“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart” (I Sam 16:7).
14
Our outward appearance is only a reflection of what is in our heart!
Man can only see what is on the outside.
David said in Ps 19:14, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight.”
