How – Example #1 - FFT
Goals are to increase effective communication and parenting in the family.
One of the risks in the family is they argue and the youth escapes by sneaking out while a protective factor may be their strong desire to protect one another.
Family counseling is a good way to provide an avenue for them to learn more effective skills that increase positive communication.
In this family, mom has been assessed as one up to the youth and connecting, while he is assessed as autonomous. FFT sessions are a good way to increase communication around parenting and negotiating while balancing the amount of time they spend together.

How – Example #2 - Education
Goals for the service of attending high school are to allow the youth to finish his diploma and go to technical school.
This increases protective factors in the family since they all work in town and leaving him at home alone every day has led to too much time on his hands.
The youth is assessed as one up to his mother and mid-pointing. She is assessed as contacting to her son.
Mom will transport him each morning to school. During the next FFP session will have him decide how much talking they do in the 20 minute drive each morning and they’ll negotiate on when they need to leave.
This allows mom the opportunities to maintain connection that will not be too overwhelming for him.

How – Example #3 – YSO TX
Goals for this service are for the youth to identify his offense triggers and the family to incorporate a safety plan into their home so the children can be reunited.
Dad is assessed as one-down to his son and autonomous. Son is assessed as autonomous to his father.
Part of their theme is around their lack of understanding of roles in the family and since they don’t talk a lot, they misunderstand each other.
The family component of YSO treatment will provide the avenue for them to discuss how to move forward safely.
