Is anything wrong anymore?
We live in interesting times where it appears that nothing is wrong and we are all free to do as we choose. For thousands of years as Christians we have understood that there is a common good for the people that is generated from a biblical worldview. When people were given their citizenship in this country they received a Bible obviously because it was considered to contain valuable ideas and wisdom for
living. Similarly when Queen Elizabeth was crowned, she was given a Bible by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the job title of Defender of the Faith, a designation that goes back to 1521 during the reign of King Henry VIII.
A lot has changed since those days.
Wisdom, oracles and the good news of God that has pervaded our education, industry, charity, law and finance has explained why these systems were copied around the world and deemed useful in so many countries. Then in the 1960s and 1970s we had a sexual revolution that began to dismantle many of society’s standard way of operating. We passed laws to make the most vulnerable people even more vulnerable with somewhere between 75,000 and 100,000 potential Australians never getting to see the light of day. We’ve seen a rise in diseases – diseases of the body and diseases of the mind.
People thought they were chasing freedom and instead found themselves enslaved. The once beautiful picture of marriage where children are raised within a construct that involves one man and one woman is now ridiculed and our young people are the innocent victims. The idea that life is beautiful and should be protected and that a child deserves to have two types of parents – a man and a woman is now regarded as something that can result in job loss, marginalisation and ridicule. As a society we are on a slippery slope because in Isaiah 5:20 it forewarns us of this when it states: ‘Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.’
We know that slippery slope begins with ignorance and ignorance leads to fear, fear leads to intolerance, intolerance leads to ridicule, ridicule leads to hate, hate leads to violence, and violence leads to murder. The Thought Police in George Orwell’s dystopian novel ‘1984’ were tasked with the job of covertly listening to people’s conversation so as to know what they think and then they could charge them with thoughtcrimes if their views differed from the state.
Today we need people with courage, because as one commentator has stated: ‘The greatest want of the world is the want of men and women – men and women who will not be bought or sold, men and women who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men and women who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men and women whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men and women who will stand for the right though the heavens fall’ (E. White).
It’s worth a thought (without the police!).

COLD MILO DAYThank you for all those who
purchased a cold milo during Week 8. We raised around $180 which has been sent to the Cotton On Foundation. This money will be used to help children in Africa get clean water and medical care.
CHRISTMAS CLOTHES DAYThank you for all those
who participated in Christmas Clothes Day during Week 9. We raised over $300 which will be sent to ADRA Foundation. This money will go towards supporting local families who may be suffering or have little this Christmas time.
The VALUE for Week 10 of Term 4 will be:
Respect, responsibility and resilience are Gilson’s core values. Respect is an attitude of treating others how we would like to be treated. It is always followed by action. It is more than knowing what
is right. It involves doing what is right. Responsibility means that people can rely on you to keep your word. It means that you are prepared to admit mistakes and take steps to make things right.
Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from difficulties. Resilient people have a positive mindset and can solve problems.
“I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

Resilience
CLASS LISTS FOR 2020At the end of each year
teachers consider class lists for the following year. Many factors are taken into consideration as students are grouped in different classes. Some of the criteria include: gender, student needs and ensuring students have friends who are a good match in terms of behaviour. To assist teachers with this process, students are asked to write down five names of friends they would like to be in the same class as. Teachers do their best to make sure each student has at least one friend from their preference list in their class. Once classes have been set changes cannot be made. We ask parents to please not make requests as refusal may offend. Parents will be notified of their child’s class teacher early in 2020 via SEQTA.

YEAR 10 CHRISTMAS HAMPERS
This term the Year 10 students, as an act of service, decided to band together to create hampers for others this Christmas. Each week students were encouraged to bring in various items. Through the generosity of the students and their families, the whole year level collected numerous grocery items and gifts. Then during Week 9, they had the pleasure of packaging and wrapping the hampers. It was wonderful to see the students work together to paint the hamper boxes, put the items together, wrap them and even write little notes. Well done Year 10 for going above and beyond for others in our community.
