Sharing the joy of Jesus Christ with Others
As you begin this New Year, remember what it means to truly serve your Lord through ministry. Many of you
have faithfully served in one or more ministries of the church for a number of years. You know your gifts and
faithfully use them to serve the Lord. What a blessing you are and a witness of what it means to serve.
In 2017, two of our members were instrumental in starting our Men’s and Women’s Ministries. One of our
newest members, Robert Wright, came to us with the idea of beginning a new Men’s Ministry. He jumped
right in and got the Saturday morning Men’s Ministry off to a wonderful start! Debbie Mann also saw a need
to begin a new Women’s Ministry in August, and this ministry has been a blessing to all who participate each
month.
Do you have an idea for a new ministry that you would like to lead, use your gifts and help others use theirs to
serve God? Contact Brenda in the church office. (903-657-6588; [email protected])
Through ministry we:
Develop character… Learn to use our gifts in service to God… Share the love of Christ
Grow Spiritually... Submit to God’s authority over our lives…Glorify God.
The power of ministry is the Holy Spirit, and the model for ministry is JESUS CHRIST!

Note from Pastor David Luckert ...
A good way to start the new year: remembering and celebrating.
Remembering and celebrating our baptism.
A we have done this in past years you have responded how
meaningful you find it to be.
On January 14, I will preach on baptism and then invite you to
come forward to the baptismal waters, and “remember” and
“celebrate” your baptism.
This can be special because it reminds us of how Jesus began His
ministry - He came to John and was baptized. As we begin a new
year of ministry here, I hope we can use this as an opportunity to
recommit ourselves to service and love.
This is a good time for us to recommit ourselves:
to a more intentional prayer life;
to more regular participation in worship;
to more consistency in giving and in serving;
and paying more attention to our opportunities to live in a way
that honors Christ.
One new goal I have in ministry in the year ahead has to do with
prayer. As you know, I started the habit of praying for each of
you on your birthday. I plan on continuing that but would like to
add something to it.
I would like to pray with you in your home this year. At your
convenience and comfort I would be honored to spend a few
moments with you in conversation and prayer. I will say more
about this through worship services, but I hope you will find a
time when we can pray together - and continue to build our
relationships.
May the words of Moses and Aaron bless us (Numbers 6:24-26):
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
David

A once in a decade travel opportunity!
The tiny Bavarian hamlet of Oberammergau presents the epic Passion Play.
An event that only happens once every 10 years!
The people of Oberammergau performed the first play in 1634
and have continued to do so for centuries.

The New Year dawns and we start our 176th year in Henderson.
Don’t worry, to my knowledge there isn’t a word for the 176th anniversary.
But I can look back on our 175th and say it was a great success. Musically
speaking it was incredible with the Chancel Choir and so many others
stepping up to make the year memorable.
Here at the beginning of 2018, we have one
big event to get us started. The Centenary
College Choir will be in concert here on
Saturday, January 6, at 3:00 pm. This is an
unusual time; however, we will be the first
venue for their winter concert tour. The
program is entitled “Life, Liberty, and the
Pursuit of Happiness”. Hopefully, many of
you can make the effort to be here.
Grace to you all……….Jack

Preschool Place
Happy New Year from the preschool! We have had a
great first semester. We served over 100 children
and their families, we replaced the flooring in four
classrooms, and our children have attended weekly
chapel, learned their ABCs, and matured greatly.
We are looking forward to another great semester
to finish out the year. We will be enrolling for the
summer in early spring and for next fall in late
spring. Children and grandchildren of members will
have an option to register early. We generally fill up
so if you are interested, call Cathy and get on the
waiting list so you can be alerted when it is time to
sign up.

Wednesday,
January 3rd,
for an activity
about “resolutions”
and what it means
to be made
new in Christ.
In January, we will introduce the concept of poverty and how
easily it can effect people in our lives.
Students will be given a budget, and have to determine what they can afford for a day. Prices will be set for basic essentials
(food, shelter and water) and then some luxuries (school supplies, toiletries and hobbies.)
This is a fun project, to open up the eyes of the students to
struggle, and what Jesus means when he speaks about feeding the poor.
This project will be a building block for other ministry projects
throughout the year.
