FRIENDS UNITED MEETING MINISTRY IN

The Samburu people live north of the equator in the Rift Valley province in central Kenya. They are closely related to the Massai and live a semi-nomadic life. Their animals are their greatest wealth, so they move according to good grazing land.

Kenyan Friends felt called to help the Samburu people over a decade ago by starting churches, schools, and health clinics.

LOTULELEIHere already exists a pre-school and a primary school, a dispensary, and a church that was destroyed in a driving rain storm. Thanks to NCYM Friends, a new one is now being built and was dedicated in July 2010 by FUM visitors.

LOSUKThis location is very remote and was intended to reach people in need who are far from the village. There HAD BEEN a church, dispensary, and mission house that have been destroyed by bandits.

During the post-election violence of early 2008, the mission staff at Losik fled in fear of their lives. Seeing it had been abandoned, vandals took the tin roofing and windows, leaving the dispensary unusable.

Vandals also attacked the church and the mission house.

Still fearing the attack of bandits, the staff hasn’t returned.

“We will give you 15 acres to rebuild a school and dispensary here at the edge of town. It will be safer and more accessible to the village people.”
