FULL SIZE ASSIGNMENT 1

LOCATION: Edgewater

Topography

The building we visit this time is locatedat a hill which means the topography isnot totally tie. So, before the land ownersale the land they have to have sometreatment to the land. Such as put thereinforce concrete on the cliff in order tokeep the soil can not move. Because theconcrete is not good at tension so they putreinforce into the concrete for increase itsstrength. The house will br built awayfrom the concrete so the building will notget force if the concrete wall will fall tothe building.

Ground treatment:

Because the soil on the hill isnot stable so those builder haveto put such white tube into theground for keep the soil stable.They have to drag a big holeabout 1m*1m big and put thetube into the ground. After thatboth inside and the arounding ofthe tube will be filing up by soil.The method is able to increasethe density of the soil so that itwill become more stable.

Foundation System:

Because we are not able to walk into theconstruction site so we can not see thefooting of the building and how it works.The builder said the footing it uses is thepad footing which is able to provide morereaction force by large contact area.

Framework:

The building is mostly uses frame systemand the material is steel and wood. We areinterested find that the material they usebetween the first floor and the second flooris different. The builder said that thematerial using is according to the requestand the construction budget. Steel is morestable but it is much more expensive thantimber. Compare with the building on theother side they use steel on both first floorand second floor because the it has threestores in all!

Polystyrene:

Polystyrene normally be used in the construction for isolate heat and noisy and it also besetted between two walls

From observation we find that mos of joint is Fixed Joints which is more stable bout not about t change the direct of the force
