With the objective of creating a new robot industry, an industry-academia joint initiative and

another initiative in the semi-conductor fi eld will be integrated in September 2015, to es-

Hakata Port – An automotive indus-try logistics hubThe volume of cargo exported from Hakata Port in 2013

amounts to 6.504 million tons. The combination of fully

assembled vehicles (1.468 million tons) and automotive

parts (0.488 million tons) accounts for a total of 1.956

million tons, or 30.1% of the total volume exported.

Hakata Port is an important export port for the automo-

tive industries. Furthermore, Fukuoka City is proceeding

with a plan to carry out construction of facilities at the

Island City that will enable two large 60,000t-class auto-

mobile carriers to berth simultaneously.

Fukuoka Motor ShowHeld once every 2 years like its counterpart in Tokyo, Fukuoka Motor Show attracted a record 147,057

visitors in 4 days of the show period in January 2014. Among various events to take place concurrently

at the three venues – Marine Messe Fukuoka, Fukuoka Kokusai Center and Fukuoka International

Congress Center – Fukuoka Motor Show has grown to such a scale that far exceeds others. By holding

this event in Northern Kyushu, which is capable of producing over 1.5 million vehicles, it also provides

a platform for technical engineers both at home and from abroad to network with each other.

smart phones) of the latest operation

status and the current bus locations.

Industry development through industry-academia-government collaboration

Creative Fukuoka Promotion Council (commonly known as Creative Lab

Fukuoka) was established in January 2013 through industry-academia-

government collaboration. CLF aims to promote creation of a platform

where young creators may freely play active roles, with Fukuoka City at

the forefront of sponsoring events and other activities. It will provide venues

of networking and matchmaking for creative businesses, supporting

healthy development of the creative industry in Fukuoka.

FACo (Fukuoka Asia Collection)Having launched in 2009 in Fukuoka city,“FACo”is providing business-matching opportunities

with approx. 7,500 visitors each time as one of three major real clothes fashion shows in Japan.

“Fukuoka Fashion Suishin Kyoten Kaigi”, an organizer of “FACo”, is promoting Fukuoka city

to be Asia’s fashion center and expanding the event venue to China, Korea, Singapore and

Thailand.

With IT and other information-based businesses already fl ourishing

for a long time in the fi rst place, Fukuoka City now demonstrates its

power by applying its accumulated knowledge to the creative fi eld of

businesses, such as games, images and application development.

The city administration has established a dedicated department to

further promote these creative businesses, providing support that

will lead to future creation and expansion of business with domestic

and overseas companies.

Kyushu Agro-Innovation is a new professional exhibition for agricul-

tural businesses in Kyushu Island and neighboring regions to be held

for two days on 23rd and 24th June 2015 at Marine Messe Fukuoka.

The exhibition of the latest technology at each stage of Production,

Circulation and Sales as well as seminars featuring the forefront

theme contributes the activation of Kyushu agriculture and it will be

held also in 2016.

Kyushu University boasts the top track record among the na-

tion’s universities in the number of international conventions

it hosted in 2013. Above all, in the fi eld of medical care and

medicine, Kyushu University has a lead over Osaka University

(2nd place) by far.

The 26th Japan Medical CongressThe Japanese Association of Medical Sciences (JAMS) held the 26th

General Assembly of JAMS, or The Japan Medical Congress, for 3 days

from April 4, 2003, at Fukuoka International Congress Center and its as-

sociated venues, where 33,000 people attended. Until then, the Japan

Medical Congress, which is held once every 4 years had had its venue

only in 4 cities, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya for 100 years. Fukuoka

was the fi rst to host the event outside the 4 cities already mentioned. At

the General Assembly in Fukuoka, the President of Kyushu University,

Yoichi Sugioka, acted as the Chairman, while professors of Kyushu Uni-

versity and Kurume University were elected as other offi cers.

The 12th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Medical Oncology (JSMO)The 12th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Medical Oncology

(JSMO) was held for 3 days between July 17-19, 2014, at Fukuoka Inter-

national Congress Center, Fukuoka Sun Palace and Fukuoka Kokusai

Center, with over 5,000 participants. Prof. Kazuo Tamura of Fukuoka

University’s Faculty of Medicine was elected as the Congress Presi-

dent.

While dealing with community health care and cutting-edge medical

care, Fukuoka University opened Clinical Research Support Center in

July 2001 and introduced the Robot Suit

cess. It (Fukuoka University) will open

Asia Robotics Research & HAL Rehabili-

tation Center in April 2015.
