“With its increased horsepower, the 540 is excellent – I love it. But what I’m really impressed with is the fuel economy – we’re averaging 1.975km/litre towing the B-Doubles which is really good. We’ve just had the 120k service completed and aside from the usual oil and filter changes it’s needed absolutely nothing doing to it – it’s a very reliable truck.”

“We had been trialling an MAN 18.360 4x2 prime mover and found a fuel economy improvement over competitive vehicles of 30 percent. You really have to know your costs. In our industry we have to understand and evaluate costs all the time. Our fuel figures would be the envy of any transport operator, given that we are experiencing 2.7km/litre with the B-double and in excess of 3.0km/litre with the single-drive prime movers and single semi-trailer units.”
