RADISSON BLU FRANKFURT
Radisson Hotel Group is setting new standards
for sustainability in the hotel industry. Thanks to a
highly innovative decentralized solution, the
Radisson Blu Frankfurt generates its own energy.
Radisson Blu Frankfurt is the first hotel in Europe
with a fuel cell of industrial size. The unique
installation of the fuel cell technology is the first of
its size in a hotel.
Our sustainability actions support preservation of
natural resources and destinations while
contributing to the bottom line and enhancing our
ability to deliver the value our customers expect.
In addition to Radisson Hotel Group company-
wide initiatives, we believe the travel and
hospitality industry and other partners together
can be a force for good. We participate in
significant collaborative initiatives to help build a
better planet for all.

INSTALLATION OF FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGY
• RHG is setting new standards for sustainability in the
hotel industry
• A highly innovative decentralized solution
• The unique installation
• 1st hotel in Europe with a fuel cell of industrial size
• The fuel cell project with 400kW for a hotel is unique in
Europe
• The use of fuel cell technology allows the Radisson Blu
Hotel Frankfurt to generate a large share of the energy
needed to run the hotel free of emissions.
• Huge advantage: it generates electricity and heat in
a non-combustion process
• Virtually absent of pollutants such as nitrous oxide
or fine dust particles.
Fuel Cell Energy Solution
FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGY
Technology and performance measurement
Future technology
Advantages:
• EXTREMELY LOW CO² EMISSIONS
• LOW NOISE
• ABSENCE OF EXHAUST GASES
The new technology is installed outside the hotel and the
produced electricity as well as the heat are transferred by
cable and pipeline to the respective distribution network in the
hotel basement. The daily hotel business is therefore not
hindered, because most of the work is carried out outside and
the piping and cable laying work is conducted in the
basement.
The produced heat replaces a large part of the expensive
local district heating. The electricity from the fuel cell covers
up to 80% of the hotel’s requirements, so that only about 20%
of the electricity must be sourced from the grid.

ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT
The fuel cell project is receiving additional support through the
"National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Innovation
Program" from the Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport and
Digital Infrastructure. Public support funds over 800,000 EUR.
The goal of the sponsorship is developing and marketing
internationally competitive hydrogen and fuel cell technology
products.
RESULTS
Innovative energy solutions such as fuel cells can supply added value for
hotels, as they significantly lower energy costs and dramatically increase
environmental friendliness – up to the point of being climate neutral.

PARTNERSHIP WITH EON
• Radisson Hotel Group and E.ON formed a partnership to apply the
use of the fuel cell technology for the hotel in Frankfurt.
• potential energy: compared to office buildings, the hotel industry has
relatively high energy costs – on average between 5 and 10% of total
operating revenue.
• The whole measure is handled through a leasing model thus no
investment is needed.
• E.ON is the owner of the fuel cell Operation, monitoring and
maintenance for the fuel cell is carried out by E.ON and secured by a
full-service contract over the useful life of 10 years.
• The useful life of such a system is up to 20 years.
• According to the district heating contract, the remaining heat from the
district heating contract can be converted to a gas supply using the
gas connection installed by E.ON during this measure.
• This also entails high savings since the district heating price is more
than twice as high as a gas supply variant.
VOICES REGARDING THE FUEL CELL PROJECT
