Honors for FUCHS Oil team in the National Ploughing Championship Ploughing contests have a long tradition in the Czech Republic. The very first documented ploughing competition on Czech soil was held in 1855 on the occasion of the regional agricultural show. The regular Czech National Ploughing Contest has been held since 1963. In the past, it was mainly a competition for multiple (four or seven ploughshares) ploughs. Czech ploughmen have been members of the worldwide organization, the WPO, since 1961 and regularly participate in European competitions as well as in World Championships. The key for the nomination of individ-ual representatives is set by a simple worldwide rule. It means that win-ners from the duplex plough and reversible plough categories go forward to the global competition and other categories to European competitions. In 2014, the European Ploughing Contest will be held on 22–23 August in Belgium and the World Ploughing Contest on 5–6 September in Bordeaux, France. For the organizers of the Czech National Ploughing Contest it was very gratifying to see that, amongst seasoned matadors who have been winning first places for years, the young generation of ploughmen were fighting skilfully to make their mark. Indeed first place in the national championship in the reversible plough category went to Michael Ondra, only 22 years old, who won a valuable victory for the FUCHS Oil team.

Arnaud Degousée The revelation of Le Touquet 2014 Incredible Enduropale… Once again more than 1,100 com-petitors braved the hellish Dantesque weather conditions in the Nord department of France, including a combination of cold, rain, hail and winds in excess of 100 km per hour. Dur-ing almost three hours of racing, the riders had to keep a firm handle on their bikes which had a tendency to keel over! The perfectly prepared FUCHS Silkolene rider, Arnaud Degousée, didn’t suffer much from the conditions in the long run. From 15th at the starting line, he was impressive as he closed in on the leaders, seized second position and then took the lead in this endurance race. Against all the odds, this young 21-year- old rider was the star of the day, attracting attention from the television channels which even covered him live. Then a few technical problems came along and derailed this beautiful performance. “I couldn’t get above fifth gear and my lead dwindled. But I didn’t give anything away and my team kept telling me that everything was still to play for. Then my fourth gear jammed and I came off. The upshot was buckled handle-bars, a twisted fork and a broken visor”, explains Arnaud. Despite these unfortunate events, this young rider still achieved fourth place on the podium at this legendary race and finishes the 2013-2014 “Championnat de France des Sables” (French Championship of the Sands) in second place.

Team Boucou supporting others at the Dakar The 35th edition of the Dakar Rally in 2014 was unquestionably the toughest ever contested in South America and saw more than 50% of entrants forced to retire. Team Boucou, a FUCHS client, posted positions 48th and 50th for its two assistance trucks and a 45th place for its buggy. However it wasn’t good finishing times that these men were after this year; although dedicated to completing the 9,188 km in thirteen days, the driv-ers of Team Boucou had also signed a major assistance partner-ship with ace drivers such as Robby Gordon, Spinelli and the official Mitsubishi Brazil teams, Eric Vigouroux and a certain Guerlain Chicherit. It’s a difficult undertaking which requires courageous driving but also rapid interventions, professional skills and the ability to handle hours of pressure. “In six days of racing, we had about two hours’ sleep, grabbing a few minutes here and there!” A few days after the end of the rally, Michel Boucou looks back on this flagship event. “We met the objec-tives that we had set for ourselves. Our clients have been very impressed by our work. They are extremely satisfied and this is down to the commitment of all the members of our team who let nothing go even in the most difficult moments. This result augurs well for the next Dakar with three requests already from poten-tial clients. We did our job well whilst still taking care of our race assistance vehicles. The three competing vehicles all reached the podium, with a victory for the 555 truck in the T4-3 category.”

Team DKMS / Wilpower Racing on all fronts 2012 and 2013 were busy years for Team DKMS / Wilpower Racing with the objectives: drive cancer awareness, promote their sponsors and compete at a high level. Drive cancer awareness “At select events, we were able set up a donor booth. Basi-cally race participants and fans had an opportunity to stop at the booth, sign up and take a swab test in order to support the Delete Blood Cancer initiative. Our overall drive was a success with new donor signups and plans to continue this drive in 2014”, explains a member of the team. The team promotes FUCHS Silkolene At the same time, the team had tremendous success with sponsorship promotion by reaching an estimated 15,000 race fans and race participants throughout 15 events. At notable events like the Lone Star Gran Prix, the race attracted more than 200 race participants and 10,000 race fans. At the Rotax US Grand Nationals the team promoted the FUCHS Silkolene brand on the track and in the pits.

Compete at a high level After a successful 2012 season, the team decided to continue to raise the regional awareness but also to participate in select na-tional events as well. In the regional spotlight, they were able to secure the Texas Prokart Challenge High Points Championship (with five 1st place finishes out of eight events). At a national level they competed in the Florida Winter Tour (5th place finish), Rotax Chal-lenge of the Americas (4th place finish), US Rotax Nationals (14th place finish) and the Lone Star Grand Prix (6th place finish). In all of the events our team was solidly among the top five to ten in every event. This really boosts our confidence for the 2014 season.

Kerim Fitz-Gerald on the podium throughout the South African Motocross Championship FUCHS Silkolene Red Bull KTM rider Kerim Fitz-Gerald showed why he’s number one at the first round of the MSA South African Na-tional Motocross Championship on Saturday 8 February at the newly GP-styled track Terra Topia (Johannesburg). Kerim placed his stamp of authority on the competition by setting the fastest times in practice in both MX1 and MX2, proving once again that he will be the man to beat in this year’s South African Motocross Champi-onship. On MX1, Kerim had great starts in both heats. He turned in a dominant first heat victory and after another great start in the second heat, despite being rocked by unusually extreme heat con-ditions of 38˚C, Kerim finished a strong 4th place which gave him a 2nd overall for the day. On MX2, the FUCHS rider had a great start to the first heat which saw him up in 2nd place initially. Kerim bat-

tled past the competition and checked out soon after to grab the win. The second heat saw Kerim in an intense battle again, but the rough track combined with the heat saw Kerim take a 2nd, which still gave him the overall win for the day.
