An App for scoring FTC matchesStraight out of Garfield and Nova High School
By Sophia Heberer and Amelia Lappenbusch
Background: What is FTC? FTC stands for First Technology Competition. It involves making robots to compete in a yearly competition that is scored based on that years game model. However, scoring these matches can be time consuming and we need the information later for evaluating strong competitors.
Why Design an App?Last year we had a lot of problems...
Sophia ended up working on scorecomparisons for HOURS beforea big competition.
Specific Problems We Want To Solve:
● Lack of resources● Time constraints● Losing paper match sheets● Issues comparing scores● No comments on why things
happened
UsersThe people who will be using this App are...
- FTC Robotics team members- Mentors, if they will be scouting- People keeping notes on matches- All the team members will be using the results
How We StartedWe made a flash card mockup to imagine what an app would look like, making sure to solve the problems we had.
How We Went Further:By using Balsamiq, an online mock-up creator
● It has real buttons!● We can use it for testing and checking user interface● It helped us figure out what we didn’t really need in the
app
User FeedbackWe have given presentations to robotics students at SAAS, and talked to our team members at Garfield and Nova. We shared our contact information to collect feedback about the App.
Working with Users
Elevator Pitch
Our team Dawgbotics is developing an android app to help FTC scorers save time and materials with an
app that is fun and easy to use to collect scores for Robots during competitions.

The FutureSophia is building the app and learning to program through Girls who Code!
Amelia will be taking AP CS next year to help maintain and update it for new competitions each year.
