Reading 1 Jer 31:7-9

Thus says the LORD: Shout with joy for Jacob, exult at the head of the nations; proclaim your praise and say: The LORD has delivered his people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them back from the land of the north; I will gather them from the ends of the world, with the blind and the lame in their midst, the mothers and those with child; they shall return as an immense throng. They departed in tears, but I will console them and guide them; I will lead them to brooks of water, on a level road, so that none shall stumble. For I am a father to Israel, Ephraim is my first-born.

Thanks be to God

Gospel Mk 10:46-52

As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me." Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you." He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

Reading 2 Heb 5:1-6

Brothers and sisters: Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: You are my son: this day I have begotten you; just as he says in another place: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Thanks be to God

Responsorial Psalm Ps 126:1-2, 2-3, 4-5, 6

R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion, we were like men dreaming. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with rejoicing. R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. Then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad indeed. R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like the torrents in the southern desert. Those that sow in tears shall reap rejoicing. R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. Although they go forth weeping, carrying the seed to be sown, They shall come back rejoicing, carrying their sheaves. R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.

RCIA

Have you been thinking about becoming Catholic, or perhaps have wanted to complete your Sacraments of Holy Communion and/or Confirmation? If so, please call Fr. Saul Alba-Infante in the Parish Office (714) 974-1416 with questions. The RCIA team hopes to see you soon.

On October 30 and 31, 2021 we shall have Fr. Rudy Alumam who will be representing his home diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga in Ghana in this year’s Missionary Cooperative Preaching. Fr. Rudy will be sharing about the mission of the diocese to provide education for many children in underserved communities in northern Ghana. Forty percent of schoolchildren in this area drop out before they complete grade 6 – this is well above the even sad national average of 28%. The evangelizing efforts of the diocese are aimed at not only retaining these students in school but to offer the children adequate and meaningful education to advance into high school and beyond. Among the several efforts, the diocese is committed to providing lunch for the children while they are in school and having the needed learning and teaching resources for both teachers and students. Your kindness is very much appreciated for the mission of Fr. Rudy’s diocese. Thank you.

ALL SOUL’S DAY

Beginning on November 2, nine Masses will be offered for our deceased relatives and friends. All Souls Day envelopes were sent in your October envelope packets and are available in the vestibule of the church. Anyone wishing to have their loved ones included in these Masses should list their names on the special All Soul’s Day envelope and return it prior to November 2 by dropping it in the collection basket or bringing it to the Parish Office.

Parish News ALL SAINTS DAY

All Saints Day is on Monday, November 1. Masses for All Saints Day will be celebrated at 8:30 AM and 7:00 PM on November 1. (There will be no vigil Mass.)

ALL SOUL’S DAY MEMORIAL MASS

We will be celebrating our annual “Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed” Mass on Monday, November 2 at 7:00 PM. This beautiful and meaningful Memorial Mass gives us the opportunity to honor our departed brothers and sisters in Christ who have died this past year. Although this Mass is celebrated in memory of our parishioners who had their funeral Masses held here, all are welcome! We invite you to bring a memento or two of your departed loved one to this Mass. There will be a table prepared for this purpose in the sanctuary area, and you may place any mementos on it before the Mass begins. You may instead bring a picture, if you wish. For further information, please contact Deacon Paul at 714-974-1416 ext.103

PRE-SCHOOL, AND KINDERGARTEN SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES HAVE BEGUN!

For those families with children attending Preschool or Kindergarten and have not yet registered for Sunday School, we would love to have you. Classes are held during the 10:00am Mass and are a great way for your children to fall in love with their faith and learn about God in fun and interactive ways. Classes have just begun and we would love to make room for more children. For more information or to register your child, please contact the Religious Education Office. 714.974.2053.

OCTOBER IS ROSARY MONTH In Religious Education, as we start October, it is a month dedicated to keeping our spirits renewed through our cherished Rosary prayer. As classes continue, students and Catechists continue to embrace all the excitement of this special month. Several 3rd and 4th Grade students crafted their own Rosaries using Fruit Loops cereal. Yes, Fruit Loops! Our 2nd year Eucharist students crafted their own Prayer Jars, with prayer sticks with inscribed intentions for their families, and their needs. Thank you, Mrs. Bowley, Mrs. Owens, Mrs. Box, and Mrs. Clarke for inspiring a love of God and our faith in creative and fun ways!

TRUNK OR TREAT

Trunk-or-Treat is almost here. Please join us after the 4:30pm Mass on Sunday, October 24, for trick-or-treating, a cake walk, a yummy BBQ dinner, and some fun fellowship with family and friends. The evening is sure to be a real scream! We are still looking for volunteers to "host" a trunk for the evening or donate store-bought dessert treats for our cake walk. Please contact the Religious Education office (714) 974-2053 for more details. We're looking forward to a howling good time!
