Its 573km of coast reserves beautiful beaches with white sand, dunes, cliffs and intense greensea. Jericoacoara, Canoa Quebrada, Taíba, Paracuru, Morro Branco, Cumbuco, Flecheiras, Praiado Futuro and Porto das Dunas are the most visited beaches. The wind blow consistently forthe most part of the year which has made Ceará one of the best places in the world topractice kite and wind surf. In the countryside, the hot and dry climate provides suitableconditions for paragliding or hang gliding. The Beach Park is the largest waterpark in LatinAmerica and it is also located in Ceará.

Labyrinth, bobbin lace, carnauba palm straw products such as baskets, purses hats and leatherproducts, clay, liana, wood and colorful sand products are the highlights of the rich handcraftcollection that is fascinating by its originality and beauty.

When it comes to gastronomy, there are delicious dishes that amaze the most demandingvisitors. The dishes reflect remarkable traits from popular culture to the influence left bycolonizers. Fish and seafood are the flagship. Crab, shrimp and lobster are the tourist’spreferred dishes which can be stewed, fried, baked or served in risottos.

From the countryside, there are: paçoca (beef mixed with yuca flour), the popular baião-de-dois (dish made of rice and beans), feijão verde (fresh green beans), sarrabulho, carneiradaand panelada. The tilapia is another specialty of Ceará’s cuisine. Ceará is the largest consumerand producer of tilapia in captivity in Brazil.

Quando o assunto é gastronomia, não faltam delícias para encantar os paladares mais exigentes. Os pratos refletemtraços marcantes da cultura popular e da influência deixada pelos colonizadores. Peixes e frutos do mar são o carro-chefe. Caranguejo, camarão e lagosta são os preferidos dos turistas e podem ser servidos em peixadas, fritos,assados ou em risotos.

Do sertão, vem a carne de sol com paçoca e macaxeira, o popular baião-de-dois, o feijão verde, além de comidas comforte tempero como sarrabulho, a carneirada e a panelada. Fruticulture timeline of Ceará

The first fruits from Ceará isexported, mainly melon.

The State Department of IrrigatedAgriculture (SEAGRI) is created onthe basis of Irrigated AgricultureProgram of Ceará (PROCEAGRI),which implements the grounds fora sustainable and competitiveirrigated agriculture. Cearáexports US$ 1.9 million FOB,which accounts for 1.3% of theBrazilian fruit exports.

Since 2000, Ceará has participatedin the main national andinternational fruit growing eventsand fairs by means of the StateGovernment to promote itspotentials and to attract investors.

The State prospects and hires 40irrigation agribusiness specialistsfrom all over the world.

The Irrigated Public Perimeter ofBaixo Acaraú begins to operate.

Ceará starts its large-scale melonproduction and Pineapple exportsbegins.

In 2001 Ceará exports US$ 12.7million FOB which represents5.7% of the Brazilian fruitexports, and definitely entersthe map of the Brazilian fruitexports.

The National Work Departmentagainst Drought (DNOCS)implements the first federalirrigated public perimeters ofCeará to develop the irrigatedagriculture.

The 1 International Fruit Fair(FRUTAL) organized by FrutalInstitute is held, and is currentlyone of the largest fairs in theworld with 16 editions. It qualifiesfruit growers and attractsbusiness to Ceará.

Primeiras exportações de frutas,principalmente melão, do Ceará.

1999: Criação da Secretaria daAgricultura Irrigada do Ceará -SEAGRI, tendo como referência oPrograma Cearense daAgricultura Irrigada –PROCEAGRI, que implantou asbases para uma agriculturairrigada competitiva e sustentável.O Ceará exporta US$ 1,9milhões FOB, representando1,3% das exportaçõesbrasileiras de frutas.

A partir desse ano o Ceará,através do Governo do Estado,participa das principais feiras eeventos nacionais e internacionaisfruticultura, divulgando suaspotencialidades e atraindoinvestidores.

Estado faz prospecção econtratação de 40 especialistasem agronegócios da irrigação devárias partes do mundo.

Entra em operação o PerímetroPúblico Irrigado do Baixo Acaraú.

Ceará Inicia sua produção eexportação de melão em grandeescala. Início das exportações deabacaxi.

The Melon and Fruit road ( ) isconstructed in the municipalities ofQuixeré, Limoeiro do Norte andRussas in order to facilitate thelogistics.

The Port of Pecém starts tooperate, and today is undergoing afull modernization process. It is themost important work to export theCeará's and Northeast Region'sfruits, and is currently the largerfruit exporting port in Brazil.

Established the Agropolos Instituteof Ceará – An institution that isvital to promote the irrigatedfruiticulture areas and to attractinvestors.

2004

Inaugurated the Castanhão Damwhich along with Eixão das Águas,has become a key infrastructurethat ensure the water supply forfruit growers.

The Federal Department ofAgriculture and Food Supplyrecognizes the Free Area of FruitFlies in 7 municipalities of Ceará. In2005 the USDA ( United StatesDepartment of Agriculture) alsorecognizes these areas.

Fruit exports doubles in 2001 andreaches US$ 24.8 million FOB,6.6% of the Brazilian fruitexports.

The Agribusiness DevelopmentFund (FDA) is created to promotemodernization andcompetitiveness of Ceará'sagribusiness.

The Irrigated Perimeter ofTabuleiros de Russas begins tooperate, and is the most modern inBrazil along with Baixo Acaraú.

Fruit exports doubles, reachingUS$ 45 million FOB, 9.3% ofthe Brazilian fruit exports.Ceará ranks fifth in theBrazilian fruit exports.

The Gross Value of Production(VBP) of the Ceará's irrigated fruitgrowing is R$ 672 million(increase of R$ 595.6 million),which created 23.2 thousanddirect jobs (increase of 13.5thousand jobs), beside offeringbetter fruit quality and economicstability to the countryside.

Reconhecimento pelo Ministérioda Agricultura e Abastecimentoda Área Livre de Mosca dasFrutas em 7 municípios doCeará, e, em 2005 pela USDAdos Estados Unidos.
