About Artcore

Artcore’s long-term objective is to use arts and crafts as a vehicle to strengthen community cohesion, educate, raise awareness and provide a platform for development. Through our work we are committed to bringing change into the lives of people of all ages, abilities, cultural and ethnic backgrounds through creative activities. Our focus is the provision of a contemporary, innovative and quality service through the four core areas: ‘art in education and learning’, ‘art in modern culture’, ‘art in health and well-being’, and ‘art in the community’.

We support participants as they develop their skills in a range of visual art mediums and techniques. As well as developing transferable skills such as time keeping, organisation, planning and communication. Artcore also provides a platform to implement the learning through volunteering and work experience opportunities in our dierent projects.

Engaging in creative and meaningful activities with Artcore, people have an opportunity to share learning, strengthen relationships with peers, boost condence, encourage use of imagination and creativity, enhance knowledge and broaden career prospects. Arts activities also act as an alternative learning tool, breaking down any learning, academic or social barriers, providing learning and education strands that are accessible to all.

Artcore is a visual arts charity with a group of professional artists working within communities locally, nationally and internationally. We endeavour to operate as a cultural hub; fuelling active engagement for a diverse range of communities in Derby, East Midlands and beyond.

Overview

4

Executive Director

I am proud to be a part of Artcore’s 20th year in operation…It has been a great journey for Artcore and these years have seen plenty of achievements, developments, struggle and even growing from strength to strength. The success of Artcore is seen through the range, innovation and quality of the work being done. From theme based art projects, to creative solutions on topical issues, and bringing diverse communities together through the medium of Art; Artcore has been oering various platforms for personal and skills development. During this journey, we’ve had some amazing feedback from all stake holders. It has also sparked some fruitful conversations and collaborations which we hope will lead to further action using art as a tool in various areas that we want to grow in – Art in Community, Art in Education and Learning, Art in Health and Wellbeing and Art in the Modern Culture.

With another successful year for Artcore, I’m proud to say that we have grown stronger as an organisation despite the ongoing funding challenges. There have been some notable achieve-ments, particularly through the Web of Water project. This was an international project on the theme of WATER (funded by the Arts Council, Heritage Lottery and City Council) and we are thrilled with the outcomes achieved.

Artcore has had a tough year with regard to grant funding and have responded to this by focus-ing more on commission projects and providing creative training. Next year looks set to be a challenging time for us, with funding.

We would like your help to progress and be able to sustain further. The success so far has been possible with some strong Partnership working and excellent quality of services oered. To con-tinue our work and making the dierence through our

services, we really need all the support available from everyone, including the City Council, Stat-utory bodies, Private and Public funders, Voluntary organisations, Individual artists, curators, volunteers and members from the communities locally.

Thank you to all connected with Artcore for your hard work over the last twelve months.

Artistic Director

Being a founder member and the artistic Director of Artcore, my role is to see the vision grow and drive the mission forward. Since its inception in 1995 in India, we have been able to bring art projects on innovative ideas and topical issues to the public. Over the last few years, Art-core has become a cultural and social meeting point with a strong dynamics between the arts, the city and culture of Derby, and everyday life. The last year has been extremely produc-tive for Artcore. Through our work we have been able to provide a platform for engagement to volunteers, established and upcoming artists, work with artistic and non-artistic groups and organisations and building sustainable partnerships.

Training Courses – This year Artcore have developed new training programmes for adults using the arts as a tool for unemployed adults to move closer to employment through creative ways. The course oered participants safe learning environment to explore creative experiences and routes to employment.

Events – We have organised variety of events which were very well attended and brought people from all walks of life together.

Sta – Apart from the two directors there is a strong team of core sta members, including two trained apprentices and a team of experienced artists we work with on a regular basis. We are building our database of sessional sta, workshop assistants and studio assistants.

Looking Ahead – 2015 we are hoping will open up new business opportunities and enable Artcore to concentrate on building our services and the Artcore community.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in our journey.

Testimonials

“Artcore improves your skills, helps you make friends and helps you discover new passions. It is anantidote for depression.” - Shabana Kahlid, Art to Active Employment participant

“This has been an exceptionally impressive exhibition- high quality- made more poignant by the theme and connection with water and to brail hygiene. I wish the exhibition well on its towels.”- Chris Leslie, MP Nottingham at The WOW Talk Event- The Atrium, 28th March 2014

“I have not previously entered into such a wide collaboration, or fullled a specic commission, which made me realise my work actually encompasses wider issues than I had imagined. I expect this experience will widen the scope of my subject.”- Dianne Illsley, Web of Water participating artist

“Through the Innocence and Expression project, children have gained condence and pride in the work achieved, better team skills which is evident from the collaborative pieces developed and have a more aspirational outlook thanks to positive reinforcement and praise, when often the children only hear negative messages.” - BBC Children in Need

Beautifully created and thought provoking show. Very inspiring, good

work, each telling a story.

17

Came across this exhibition by accident but very impressed by all the dierent approach-es to the subject. Had not heard of Artcore before so interesting to see what they do. I love the concept of the links between India and the East Midlands. Thanks. - Annette Roe

The local and international concept was par-ticularly appealing to me and I was delighted that Déda hosted some fantastic works from both India and closer to home Derbyshire.

I felt that the exhibition was of a varying standard with some works not as strong as others but this is to b expected in a mixed show. Audiences very much enjoyed the exhibition and the sta only heard positive feedback.

Déda has a strong relationship with Artcore and continue to work together on several projects. -Stephen Munn, Director, Déda
