Welcometothe2019NCCAConference“CounselorsCommittedtoAdvocacy.”Thethemeofthisyear’sconferencereflectstheuniqueopportunitycounselorsareaffordedeachdaytolistenempathicallywithindividualsaswellasactdecisivelyagainstsystems,policies,practicesandlawsthatarenotinthebestinterestofourprofessionandthoseweserve.InconsultationwithDr.FredBemak,advocacypioneerandcounseloreducatoratGeorgeMasonUniversity,hementioned,“Ifwe[counselors]arenotadvocatingforourclientsandstudents,wearenotdoingourjobs.”IbelievecounselorsinourgreatstateofNorthCarolinarecognizetheimportanceofadvocacyandarecommittedtodeveloping,supporting,andengaginginadvocacyeffortsthatwillinfiltratetownhalls,schooldistrictsandourstategovernment.OneofmyfirstopportunitiestorepresentourgreatassociationasPresidentwasduringAdvocacyDayinRaleighasNCCApartneredwithLPCANCto
