5th March 2015 Issue 3 Primary School Hello Parents, Caregivers and Community Members, Firstly, I would like to say well done to all our students for a great start to Semester 2. Nearly everyone got straight into their work and have displayed real positive behaviour and attitude towards everything at school. Also, well done to all staff as your work and solid preparation has enabled our students to perform as well as they have. On performance of students, it is pleasing to read, via the West Australian, that WA students in Year 3 and 5 have shown a marked improvement in all areas of NAPLAN. I am looking forward to receiving the results of our students and hopefully seeing this improvement also evident with Endeavour students. Having a sound knowledge of the latest techniques and practices in First Aid treatments and procedures is very important. The reason for saying this that I would like to acknowledge the 20 plus staff who are giving up 9 hours of their own time (Wednesdays for 3 weeks, 3:30 – 6:30) to update their skills to ensure that our work place has a great group of trained First Aiders, when and if the need ever arises. Well done to our Inter-School Cross Country team for their participation and effort at the Comet Bay School Sports Association event held on Wednesday, 5th August. Several 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were achieved. All runners did their best and everyone needs congratulating for their efforts on the day. Please Note: Have you enrolled your child/ren in Kindy and/or Pre- Primary for 2016? We are still taking enrolments for those people who are new to the area, have forgotten or simply didn’t know about enrolling. Please see the office ladies for all details. Later this term, there will be a Parent/Community on-line survey available for all interested members of the Endeavour community to participate in. The survey will be about our Schools. The specific survey is currently being prepared and more information will follow. It is important to the school that people take part in the survey so we can review our policies and school procedures. An event to look out for is the WAGSM Concert to be held at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, 20th August. Our Senior Choir and Dance Group will be performing. Both groups have been rehearsing hard and are now putting the finishing touches on what will be two great items at this concert. If you require any information, please direct your enquires to Mrs Nurse. Keep up the great work, attitude and behaviour standards. You have all done a great job so far . Alan Hansen - Principal Education Support Centre Dear Parents and Caregivers, After returning to school after taking some leave at the end of last term and the beginning of this one I am so pleased to come back and find everything running beautifully. My sincere thanks for a job well done to both Mrs Kerri-Anne Benbow and Mrs Jacinta Savell- Stewart who have done a fantastic job in my absence. It’s great to be back and I’m looking forward to all the school events coming up this term. Next week sees all our Year 1-6 students and staff going out to the Cricket Day at Lark Hill Sporting Complex which is a great day for everyone to be involved in. Well done to all our staff who have organised this day, I just hope they’ve organised for good weather as well. We appreciate these excursion opportunities for our students so that they can continue to experience a variety of sporting and community events as well as practising their social skills with other people in new situations. Thank you to our wonderful parents for supporting these events. ESC Camp is coming up soon and it looks like a jam packed event over the two days. I know that everyone is looking forward to the camp and please let us know if you need any further information about any aspect of the camp. All classroom teachers and education assistants are involved in the organising and supervising for camp so we can all answer any questions you might have. Only 6 more weeks to go……………….. Kindergarten enrolments for 2016 are still being taken (but there are a limited number of places available) so if you know of anyone who might be interested in our ESC Early Childhood program then please contact the school for more information regarding eligibility and details of our intensive program for students with disability. NAIDOC WEEK

To celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Islander peoples, Rooms 23 and 25 discussed Aboriginal Dreamtime Stories and other

traditions. As part of this, both rooms completed artwork based on a Dreamtime story

told in their classroom.

Room 23 listened to the story of Wayamba the Turtle, before creating turtle dot art

work. We used a selection of warm coloured paints to dot paint the turtle, and cool

colours to dot paint the water, before dying the turtle yellow and the water blue. We

are incredibly happy with how they have turned out. Come and check them out!

Room 25, as part of NAIDOC celebrations, looked

at Didgeridoos and the sound they made. We then

made some fantastic ones or our own.
