Dear Parents,
Warm wishes for a very happy New year.
December’17 brought Christmas cheer and joy of learning for our learners from pre-primary to Gr.9.
The Carnival- Animal Mania was a spectacular event filled with fun, joy and a sense of fulfilment for
our dear pre-primary pupils. This is a cherished memory for all of us as teachers, staff and parents
which made the entire celebration very meaningful. Teachers and Coordinator worked relentlessly to
make arrangement for every aspect of the carnival to bring animal world closest to our pre-primary
pupils through amazing decorations. Along with lot of learning, this portrayed excellent team spirit
and individual talent of teachers. The entire pre primary team deserves appreciation for this wonder-
ful effort.
The primary children were engaged in various learning activities including competitions, assess-
ments, Sports day, Christmas party and more. They are now young but confident learners who can
express brilliantly through words and speech. Every school activity sees them to be performing better
than our expectation which makes us proud and happy. A casual interaction with them for me is al-
ways joyous and meaningful as they share their learning with a sense of happiness.
The secondary students had interesting activities through French Exchange programme, Olympiad
examinations, assessments and Sports day. The learning is more joyous now for all our pupils from
Gr.2 to Gr.9 due to the newly developed and spacious library and 3 individual science laboratories.
These have become their favourite learning areas and school is most happy to witness this. Addition
of sophisticated resources in the laboratories and resources in the library make experience pleasant
for our learners.
Sports day was one occasion for our pupils from pre-primary to Gr.9 for exploring individu-
al potential to participate in sport games. Weeks of preparation for this event also honed
their coordination and team building skills to realise that they can achieve best for their des-
ignated house to win the trophy. Sports day celebrated on 9th Dec’17 coincided with the arri-
val of students from our French partner school, Lycee St.Sebastian. Together, our learners
participated in the sports day to experience competition and winning for joy of partnership
between the two schools. This exchange ensured learning new cultural and educational ex-
perience for French students. The reciprocal visit by our students to Lycee St.Sebastian
would be conducted from 18th April to 4th May’18.
Dear Parents,
I am always happy to note how our dear students bring in warmth, joy, happiness and posi-
tivity to the school premise as learn here. This probably is the best reason for every child to
learn here, enjoy the experience and develop into independent and successful learner. I wish
each one of you and all dear students the best of experience and fruitful 2018.
With Best complements,
Dr.G.Nagashree.
Children celebrated pyjama party in school. They had a great time, playing with their
toys and listening to lullabies. They were tucked in their blankets and were excited as
they had the company of their friends.
Cooking day & Dress up day
SBI had organized a cooking day for the mothers and the children to help them bond. Mothers
prepared some yummy salads with their kids as a recap of the concept “Fruits and Vegetables”. The
activity involved the kids dressing up as different fruits and vegetables. Eventually, the mothers and
the children together, after the activity, played some fun games like dumb charades and memory
games. It was exciting to see moms work with so much of enthusiasm. Cheers to all our lovely
mammas.
Visit to a Garden — Jr .KG & Playgroup
To enhance the curiosity of the children, Junior kg students visited the musical garden to have
hands on experience about plantations and different types of plants. The garden area was very
beautiful which had swings and slides, children had a great time.
Visit to super Market
At SBI, we believe that experiential learning is one
of the best ways to make learning fun. Keeping this
is mind, students of Nursery were taken to Sahkari
Bhandar, Juhu. Children thoroughly enjoyed the
experience of shopping at the super market and
getting themselves involved in activities like
pulling their trolleys, exploring each counter and
picking their favourite fruits and vegetables which
they carried back home as a take away.
Getting kids to eat healthy food is a challenge, virtually every parent faces.
Keeping this in mind, We planned a “Healthy wealthy Day”, where the children of nursery along with
their teachers did a wonderful job of making some yummy, scrumptious fruit & veggie salad to inculcate
healthy eating. As a reinforcement of the theme, students were expected to wear a placard of their
favorite fruit or vegetable and speak few lines on it.
Splash...splash... Water fun day was indeed a “WATTA-FUNN- DAY”. children had lots of fun
doing various activities like fishing, balancing the balloon etc. Kids enjoyed water relay the most
as they played in teams with their friends.
Students of Jr.KG had their first culmination on the theme “Amazing world of plants”. Children
were dressed and enacted a play related to the theme pertaining to the life cycle of a plant. It was
a pleasure to see the students performing effortlessly and with full confidence. Activities were
planned for the parents like pot decoration, etc. It was a delight to watch them participate with en-
thusiasm. The culmination activity ended with a take away given by the child to the mother.
The theme for the month of December, 2017 was ‘Go Green’ wherein children learned about plantation
and how to “save our environment”. Kids made a tree of their choice with the help of their parents and
also spoke a few lines about it. It was an interactive session where the class was decorated and gave a
jungle vibe.
Students of Sr. KG learned about plantation, so as an extension to the project, they were taken to a
Plant nursery called ‘Green Grovers’ at Bandra. They learned about different varieties of plants.
Christmas is a festival of joy and cheer, a time to celebrate.
Our students at CPGIS celebrated the spirit of Christmas with great fervor on 22nd of Dec,2017.
The school wore a festive look. Students of grade 2, 3 and 4 enjoyed the festivities . They
decorated their classrooms with bright & colourful balloons, streamers, wreaths, bells etc. Not
to forget the Christmas tree. As take aways, the children of grade 2 made mistletoes, grade 3
made Christmas trees and grade 4 made Santa masks.
Children spread cheer with their smiles & lovely attires. They shared lip smacking snacks with
their classmates. Music and songs of Christmas filled the air as the children danced with delight
to the music. They were delighted to meet Santa as he distributed sweets and greeted them
warmly.
Merry Christmas

Get Set Yoga!
The Exchange Program between CP Goenka International School Juhu and Lycée Technique
Saint Joseph, Landerneau, Bretagne, France held in December was an exciting and culturally
enriching experience for the French kids as they were given a yoga session at the beach. The
children tried different yoga asanas and were oriented on the benefits of diffreent asanas. The
fun session ended with a lot of energy and refreshing coconut water.
Sports Day: A fun filled day for all
Malishka Nagi - 9B
Every student in CP Goenka International School awaits our Annual Sports Day so that they can
make themselves and their house proud . Every competition is filled with anticipation and a lot
of hard work .Every year students take part in various activities to compete for the various medals
and trophies . This year was equally memorable. The event started off with students taking an oath
to signify true sportsmanship. It was evident throughout the event that the students of CPGIS
understood the meaning of fair competition and that they enjoyed every second of the event.
Students from primary displayed their enthusiasm throughout the Fun Races and the audience
could not help but respond to this energy with cheers and screams. The Relay, 200 metres and 400
meters races were filled with trepidation as we all sat on the edge of our seats , waiting for the
winners to be announced. Every race focused on a different aspect of Sports. Relay races encour-
age teamwork, while 400 meters races help build stamina. The drills that all grades performed
were a clear show of our energy. These events were followed by the Class races, where every stu-
dent participates, this ensures that every child is involved in the event.
The most memorable event was the walk past of our students along with their French correspond-
ents. It displayed our school's participation in activities that help build character and the im-
portance that these activities are given. Students from St. Lycee Sebastien took part in races and
competed with their correspondents in Tug Of War. These activities ensured that our correspond-
ents were involved and felt a part of our sports day. The event ended with Areyah D'Costa being
awarded with ' Best Female Athlete ' and Preet Jain being awarded with 'Best Male Athlete.'
What We’re Expecting For Our Annual Day
Ashi Parelkar – IX A
Annual days are an integral part of every students life. It is an event that showcases students talent
beyond the books. It is crucial that every school only uses the best students to exhibit the cumulative
efforts and it is thus that auditions are introduced. Auditions are an interview for a role or job as a singer,
actor, dancer, or musician, consisting of a practical demonstration of the candidate's suitability and skill.
On the 11th of December every student was intimated of the same. We were to prepare an extract
monologue or poem for less then a minute to be presented to the Rael Padamse teachers. Each student
worked hard on finding ad preparing the piece that appealed most to them . Memorising and revising we
were later told that our annual day theme was a fractured fairy-tale of snow white. Enthusiastic students
of different grades filled into the library as soon as the announcements were made. An atmosphere of
exhilaration engulfed us as we practiced , hearts thumping loudly and fingers crossed that we would get
a chance to act to our much awaited annual day.
Each of us are now just waiting for that day in January when the results will be revealed.

On the 14th of December, our school had the honour of hosting our very first French student exchange
program. The students came from Brittany, France and were staying with our students from the ninth
grade. We welcomed them with a day full of games and stunning performances.
We started the day with a beautiful kathak performance done by the secondary students and a French
song presented by the primary students. The school was decorated with Bollywood movie posters and
joyful music was playing in the background.
Multiple stalls were set up and they all hosted various games. The games included Twister, Darts,
Tossing the Ring and Pong! And of course, chocolates were given regardless of whether they won or
not. All of the students were very excited to play and let’s just say we ran out of chocolates in record
time! It was great to see our students helping the French students, translating for them and guiding
them.
There were more events like a dance performance by the eighth graders and a mini recreation of the
Book fest we had in November.
Miss Kasturi, our French teacher, said ‘The event was very successful! It was organized completely by
our students and they have worked very hard. Everything was set up and decorated by them as well.’
The French students really enjoyed the program and loved the performances. It was a successful day
and we hope to have more like these in the future.
Au revoir!

The French Really Cannot Eat Our Spice
This December, 15 of our students hosted 15 French students from St. Lycee Sebastian. They had been
paired based on similar interests and everyone seemed to get along with their correspondents really well.
What started off as what seemed like a fun fifteen day break from school turned into an informative
enriching experience.
Over the course of these days the students visited various cultural hubs in Mumbai, went for a heritage
walk at Malabar hills, did the Mumbai darshan and visited typical Indian markets. Our school had 2 fun-
filled days of activities that served as an insight to Indian learning and gave students in other grades the
chance to interact with the French correspondents. A few parents were kid enough to host events at their
houses- there was a mehendi session where all the girls went crazy over ‘henna’; there was a Dandiya
night where students did garba on Indian as well as French songs and there was also a farewell dinner for
everyone to say their goodbyes.
The highlight of these 15 days was definitely the three day trip to Udaipur where the foreigners saw a
very different part of India. All the palaces left them awestruck and they even had the opportunity of
watching traditional Indian dances and Rajasthani puppets. These 3 days gave students the chance to re-
ally get to know each other and form strong bonds and lasting memories.
When language proved to be a barrier, music, dance, sports all made way for communication without
words. Not only did our Indian students learn more about their city, they learned how to adapt to other
peoples lifestyles. Before the French kids came here, we had all put them into boxes. They are athletic.
They enjoy dressing up. They are disciplined. What we slowly but surely learned is that they all had dis-
tinct tastes and characteristics and trying to understand them as a mass would not be understanding them
at all. We also learned about ourselves- how easy it is to make friends despite barely speaking the same
language, how much our tastes align with theirs and how fast we actually get bored of burgers.
All of us are so thankful to our school for having this exchange program that proved to be an exchange
in every sense of the word.
