Respect. Excellence. Acceptance. Community. Honesty. Dear Parents and Families: The amount of learning opportunities that our children are immersed in at ANPS every week continues to amaze me. While I'm sitting here typing this newsletter, I can hear a group of our grade 5/6 students very confidently and professionally conducting an interview with a Hobsons Bay Conservation Ranger. Over the last few weeks, as part of the grade 5/6 KicARTS program, students have been ringing Local Community Members to invite them along to find out more about what they do to support our local community. Students have taken on this role very seriously and have been learning how to conduct themselves in a professional manner. So grown up! PARENT OPINION SURVEY: The Parent Opinion Survey closure time has been extended until 11:59 pm Sunday 9th September. If you are a family that has been asked to complete the survey and you haven't already done so, can you please complete the survey. If you are having trouble accessing a computer to complete the survey, we are happy for you to come to school and we can assist you. SWIMMING GRADE PREP-GRADE 4: Dont forget swimming begins Monday for our Prep to Grade 4 students. Children will need to have their forms all signed before they can attend the swimming program. Please remember to ensure your child/ children have their bathers and towels every day. MELBOURNE ORCHESTRA -Grade 3/4: Today our grade 3/4 Unit visited Hamer Hall at the Melbourne Arts Centre and had the most exciting experience of seeing the world famous Melbourne Orchestra play. Maybe this will inspire some of our budding musicians to want to become part of an orchestra or learn a new musical instrument. Thank -you to Mr John for organising this great cultural excursion. STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING: This week the staff at ANPS participated in professional learning led by Mr Jaggard and myself. Monday was dedicated to developing and improving skills and knowledge in the teaching of Spelling & Vocabulary. Staff spent the whole day sharing what they already do and know about the teaching and learning of Spelling & Vocabulary, exploring learning new strategies and planning lessons based on new gained knowledge. At Wednesdays staff meeting, Mr Jaggard led the teachers in reviewing, revising and refreshing their knowledge of the strategies we use when planning for and teaching an effective Reading program at ANPS. These professional learning sessions ensure that all staff are kept up to date with current best practices and are all on the same page with teaching and learning expectations at ANPS. NAPLAN: The VCAA has finally released the NAPLAN results. The results show that our students relative learning growth from the grade 3 2016 test to this years Grade 5 test were above the state growth in 3 out of the 5 areas tested. What a great outcome. This is a positive reflection on the whole school community, including students, staff and parents & families. Everyone in the school community has a role to play in ensuring our students are receiving the best start in life. Thank-you to everyone for your efforts. NAPLAN results for students who completed this years test will be available to be collected from the office on Monday afternoon. ANPS CANTEEN UPDATE: At the start of Term 3, we outsourced the management of the school canteen to Jo and Nicole who run their own catering service “KingWill Catering”.

In order to assist families with the transition to the “new” canteen processes, we have allowed families to do manual lunch orders whilst getting used to the new process of ordering via the Qkr! App.

The time has come where we must request all families download the Qkr! App as this is the only way you can order lunch for your child on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from now on.

From the start of Term 4 the canteen will no longer be open during recess or lunch breaks for counter sales. All items which are currently available during these break times, will be available to order on the Qkr! App but will only be delivered with lunch orders.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these changes to our canteen operations but unfortunately with the increasing costs associated with running the canteen we currently do not have any other options.
