March 27, 2019 Volume 47 Issue 12 From the Pastor Dear Church Family, Over three hundred years ago, John Bunyan, an English tinker wrote Pilgrim’s Progress. It has been widely read and published, and is acclaimed as one of the great works of literature. It is also a very helpful guide to the Christian life. Written in allegory, it uses all sorts of imagery to describe character Christian’s pilgrimage, or Christian walk from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. In my own experience as a Christian, as well as in my work as a Christian pastor, I think there is a deep need for people to understand the nuts and bolts of the Christian life. So many of us have been raised on some sort of mixed diet of American prosperity gospel, southern church legalism, moralism, freedom-from-much-of-the-law in the Scriptures, and whatever other soup du jour from the modern church. We are confused and travel the Christian way un-comforted or worse, without resources to travel well. Pilgrim’s Progress has helped many Christians face the reality of the Christian journey from sinner to saint, unholy to holy, this life to the life to come. If you are interested in reading more about this wonderful Christian classic, follow this link to great resources or viewing Dr. Derek Thomas’ series visit here. Next Wednesday, April 3 at 7 PM, our church will be hosting a viewing of the newly made The Pilgrim’s Progress. You can read more about it here. Though the film is animated, please don’t think of it juvenile. I think you will be blessed if you join in the viewing in the Fellowship Hall. 1 EVENTS MARCH 27 Handbell Choir Rehearsal—6:30 PM 31 Sunday School & Prospective New Members Class—9:45 AM, Morning Worship —11 AM, Choir Rehearsal—5 PM, Evening Worship—6 PM APRIL 1 Men’s Lunch & Men’s Evening Gathering— 12 noon (Southbound Sandwich Works), 7 PM (Panera Bread) - Romans, Lesson 6 2 Ladies’ Evening Book Study—7 PM, pastor’s home—Romans, Lesson 6 3 PILGRIM’S PROGRESS MOVIE—7 PM 3, 10, 17, 24 Ladies Bible Study—11 AM 3, 10, 17, 24 Handbells Rehearsal—6:30 PM 7 Sunday School & Prospective New Members Class—9:45 AM, Morning Worship & Lord’s Supper—11 AM, Choir Rehearsal—5 PM, Evening Worship—6 PM 9 Table Talk—7 PM 10 Holy Week Service Rehearsal—6 PM (supper provided) 14 Sunday School—9:45 AM, Morning Worship—11 AM, Choir Rehearsal—5 PM, Evening Worship—6 PM 14 Holy Week Service—6 PM 17 Cat Kids—6:30 PM, Cat Kids Room 21 Easter Sunday Breakfast—9:45 AM, Morning Worship—11 AM, Evening Worship —6 PM 28 Sunday School—9:45 AM, Morning Worship—11 AM, Choir Rehearsal—5 PM, Evening Worship—6 PM A welcoming family of Reformed believers committed to the historic Christian faith and life. 2250 Saddleclub Road. From the Pastor

Dear Church Family,

Over three hundred years ago, John Bunyan, an English tinker wrote Pilgrim’s Progress.

The Window’s MiteI have some ideas to increase our giving towards our budget needs. Last year many of you participated in the $5 challenge, adding $5 to your weekly giving. This year, I challenge you with the “Tithe + 5” opportunity:

The proposal is to give your 10% tithe fully and then add an extra $5 a week to your tithe. That would be an extra $20 a month, over and beyond your tithe. If we get 30-50 folks doing this, it would raise an additional $7,200-$12,000 annually to help with building projects. Now, this is just a suggestion, but it would certainly help in a year where there are several building improvements needed.

Yours in Christ,Jay SnowTreasurer
