Last weekend we kicked off the 2019 Alex Scott and Staff WGFNC Finals Series. We were blessed with the weather for the vast majority of the weekend and this encouraged large crowds to attend both days. 1733 people came through the gate for the Qualifying Final at Koo Wee Rup while 1567 people came down the road to Cora Lynn for the Elimination Final. It was all about the upsets on the football field as 6 of the 8 games were won by the lower ranked side. On the netball court the results went a little more as expected with 10 of the 12 matches being won by the higher ranked team. Congratulations to all who progressed to week 2. Match day operations were well handled by our two host clubs Koo Wee Rup

and Cora Lynn and we thank them for their efforts. We must also make a mention of Brad Sinclair and the rest of the 3mFM crew for their calling of both seniors matches over the weekend, as well as their organisation of the first ever live stream of West Gippsland football. Make sure you tune into 88.1, 89.1, 89.5 or online at 3MFM.com.au to hear the call or jump onto the WGFNC Facebook page to watch both todays match between Phillip Island and Tooradin Dalmore and tomorrows match between rivals Cora Lynn and Koo Wee Rup live. Hopefully the weather gods shine on us again as we wish the best of luck to all team taking the field or courts today.

Week one finals wrapIn a weekend littered with carnage, Koo Wee Rup Football Club landed the most substantial blow in the opening round of the Alex Scott & Staff premiership bout. The Demons, who crept into the top five by the barest of margins, adapted best to the slick conditions at Cora Lynn Recreation Reserve to win Sunday’s elimination final against Inverloch Kongwak by 29 points. They were one of six football teams to upset their higher-ranked opponent over the two days of qualifying and elimination finals. The Sea Eagles had endured an up and down season but were regarded by many to have found their form at the right time and loomed as a genuine flag threat. However, profligacy in front of goal and a greater degree of desire and intensity from Koo Wee Rup combined to send the 2017 premiers tumbling out at the first hurdle. Both sides made minor changes at the selection table, with Sea Eagles winger Corey Casey returning for his first game since round 16 in place of Dan Houston, while the Demons recalled Shannon Marsh and Nick Prowd in place of Caleb Milojevic and Kalin Parker. The Demons settled fastest, winning a series of stoppages before Mitch Cammarano’s quick hands found fellow young gun Matt Voss, who shared with his brother Nathan for the opening goal of the game inside the opening 90 seconds. The Sea Eagles worked their way into the game and, after a couple of sighters from tall forward Sam Gibbins, hit the lead courtesy of a composed set shot from Dylan Clark.A classy checkside set shot from Toby Mahoney at the 23-minute mark extended Inverloch Kongwak’s lead before the Demons pulled one back through Darren Sheen to be within two straight kicks at quarter time.

From there it was all Koo Wee Rup, at least as far as the scoreboard was concerned.Three more goals to Nathan Voss, two to Sheen and one to Marsh went without reply, as the Sea Eagles were unable to convert any of their 10 scoring shots between the first and last changes.Gibbins broke the drought 10 minutes into the last term, but came among three more from Sheen, whose big game experience came to the fore, as he finished with a season-high six goals in the 11.10 (76) to 5.17 (47) win – a final score that makes for tough reading for Inverloch Kongwak fans.Veteran Luke Walker was the best player on the ground, while Nathan Muratore and Mitch Collins were also prominent for the Demons.Adam Cross and Dan Reid were standouts for the Sea Eagles, while Casey justified his inclusion with a classy performance. The Demons will now meet Cora Lynn in the first semi-final, after the Cobras were turned over by Tooradin Dalmore in Saturday’s qualifying final at Koo Wee Rup Recreation Reserve. Both sides made three changes to their teams from round 18, with Jeremy Monckton, Troy Tharle and Shaun Sparks all declared fit for the Cobras, while Luke McKenna, Rory Hillis and Brad Lenders all returned for the Seagulls.Tooradin Dalmore settled quickly with an early goal to Andrew Dean, before the Cobras roared to life with three goals in less than two minutes to Chris Johnson, Jaxon Briggs and Nathan Gardiner. The tide turned again as the Seagulls booted four of the next five majors to hold a six-point lead at the first change. After a frenetic opening term, the goals dried up in the second, with Nick Lang’s late snap one of only three for the quarter. The game followed a similar pattern in the second

Week one finals wraphalf, with Dean striking first for the Gulls to open up a game-high 23-point margin, before Johnson and Gardiner hit back for the Cobras. Two goals to Jake O’Donnell put Tooradin Dalmore 26 clear at the final change and while Travis Woodfield got the first of the last for Cora Lynn, it was the Seagulls that found a new gear.Goals to Cameron Brown, Julian Suarez and Dean – who finished the game as he started it – led the Gulls to an impressive 13.18 (96) to 8.6 (54) victory.Dylan Sutton, Adam Galea and Lewis Hill were the standouts for Tooradin Dalmore, while co-captain Tim Payne, Johnson and Brady White were best for Cora Lynn.It was a tough day for the Sea Eagles, who were also eliminated from the reserves division by Bunyip, 9.6 (60) to 6.7 (43), and the fourths by Korumburra Bena, 3.7 (25) to 6.7 (43).In the other elimination final, Cora Lynn defeated Nar Nar Goon 8.14 (62) to 4.2 (26).The Cobras will now face Bunyip in the first semi-final, after the Bulldogs were upset by the Sea Eagles 12.9 (81) to 7.8 (50) to book a second semi-final date with Phillip Island.Nar Nar Goon overcame Garfield in the fourths qualifying final, 6.8 (44) to 2.2 (14), while reigning premier Koo Wee Rup surprised the Island in the reserves, winning 9.5 (59) to 6.5 (41).Over on the netball courts, results were much more routine, with 10 of the 12 higher ranked sides advancing. That’s not to say it was all smooth sailing.Two-time reigning premier Dalyston needed to be on their game in the A Grade qualifying final against Korumburra Bena, with scores level at three quarter time. The Magpies managed to find the answers, eventually surging clear to win 53-45 and book

a second semi-final date with minor premier Tooradin Dalmore. The Giants will now face Nar Nar Goon, which held Bunyip at arm’s length from start to finish to eliminate the Yips 40-33.Tooradin Dalmore and Dalyston will also contest the B Grade second semi-final, after the Magpies defeated Nar Nar Goon 42-36.The Goon will face Warragul Industrials, which found a way past Bunyip 36-17.Cora Lynn’s C Grade side ensured there would be no trifecta of Gulls-Magpies matches by downing Dalyston 38-29 to book a date with Tooradin Dalmore. The Magpies will use their second chance against Bunyip, following the Yips’ 27-21 win against Koo Wee Rup in Sunday’s elimination final. The 17-and-under competition is an all-southern affair, after Dalyston eliminated Cora Lynn 31-21 to set up a clash with Korumburra Bena, which fell short against Inverloch Kongwak 26-22 in the qualifying final. The Sea Eagles will take on minor premier Phillip Island in Saturday’s second semi-final.The closest match of the weekend came at Koo Wee Rup on Saturday, where the Demons’ 15-and-under side made the most of a home court advantage to sneak past Cora Lynn 22-21.The Cobras will get the chance for redemption when they face Warragul Industrials in the first semi-final, after the Dusties upset Phillip Island 21-17.The Island sprung a surprise of their own in the 13-and-under grade, knocking off Dalyston in the qualifying final to set up a second semi-final showdown with Cora Lynn. The Magpies remain in contention and will meet Inverloch Kongwak, which held off Koo Wee Rup 15-9.

BUNYIP CLUB NOTES

FOOTBALL18’sThe u18 young Bulldogs were up against a strengthened Inverloch-Kongwak team that they’d beaten twice during the year. However, even though the Yips started well kicking the first 2 goals, the much improved Inverloch team were able to control the stoppages and mark strongly to overpower them. Better players on the day were Jake Stewart, Jack Fraser, Heath Morgan-Morris, Xave Kinder and Alex Dijkstra. Hopefully the Bunyip boys can bounce back against Cora Lynn this week.

ReservesOur ressies side bounced back to the form they showed early in the year by overcoming a strong Inverloch outfit. Kicking into a stiff breeze in the first, and coming into the first break in front showed the group was up for the challenge. From the outset, our ability to pressure relentlessly and run the footy and hit the scoreboard was critical. Robbie Hughes was superb with 6, Brent Heus changed the game, Rossco McColl showed his usual hardness. Trent Westwood, Sam Dowie and Harry McConnell were also better players. We would also like to wish our C Graders all the best after a hard fought comeback win on Sunday. And finally, our women’s team were unfortunately second in the grand final but it has been another great year for everyone involved.

NEtBALLAfter a huge weekend for Bunyip, our A & B grade girls were unable to secure the win against some tough opposition in NNG & Dusties, but should walk away with heads held high after fighting hard an pulling together to secure a finals spot in the 2019 season. We are so proud to have you both representing the club at the business end of the season and it only shows the strength we currently have in our club. We are already excited at what next season will bring!BUT WAIT!!!! Our finals campaign is far from over after our C grade girls pulled out an awesome win over KWR on Sunday. Having lost to KWR on both encounters during the home and away season, the yips pulled together when it really mattered and in tough windy conditions were able to come away with a well deserved win. Well done ladies!!!This Sunday we will be well represented once again at Burra with our C grade, Under 18's and 2nd's teams all battling it out for a place in the Preliminary Final.Good luck ladies and gents, do our club, team mates, coaches and yourselves proud!Bark Loud, Bark Proud!!!GO BUNYIP!!!

FINALS

THIS WEEK

We have two teams in the First Semi Final on Sunday at Korumburra (currently) due to mixed results last week. Our thirds won the right to play Bunyip and the seniors will play Kooweerup after their loss to Tooradin.

LAST WEEK

SENIORS

On a beautiful day and a good deck at Kooweerup we expected our senior team would flourish in the conditions and put up a good show against Tooradin. This was not to be and put some question marks against our team both from a discipline perspective and ability to change their game style through the game. Billy Thomas won nearly everything in the ruck but

the mid field got smashed through the middle and the opposition took advantage at every centre bounce. This produced a chain reaction where our defence was immediately placed under pressure. If it wasn’t for the tireless efforts of Tim Payne who epitomised the Cobra Spirit the result would have been a lot worse. Our bright spot was in the first quarter when we kicked three goals in three minutes but after that we only kicked five more goals for the game. The way that the ball kept coming down to the defensive end of the ground placed our back line under inordinate pressure and they lost their composure a number of times in an uncharacteristic display. Our forward line looked disorganised and did not respond well to the pressure from the Tooradin defence. Overall a disappointing start to the finals series.

CORA LYNN CLUB NOTES

THIRDS

In stark contrast our thirds played a disciplined and spirited game against a strong opponent in Nar Nar Goon. Coach Shaun Sparks praised the effort of the side and emphasised how important the team effort was in the context of beating a side they had not beaten this season. The flow on effect of all parts of the side doing their bit was reflected in the best players as each player is a leader on their own line. Max Hanks, Dan Vela, Gus De Costa, Luke Hartley (three goals), Jai Stevens and Harry Coleman were singled out but they were part of a well-oiled machine. Overall a great effort.

DALYSTON CLUB NOTES

footballLast week we had the junior presentation night at the new Social Rooms and it was an amazing turnout with around 200 people attending. The success of the night shows that the club is doing the right thing in the junior ranks and it’s fantastic to see the support and spirit within the ranks. To have Oz Kick, under10’s,12’s 14’s, Net Set Go and Youth Girls football is a real positive for the club. Congratulations to all players, award winners and the Junior Committee which is doing an amazing job.Women’s Football: The Breakers travelled to Mulgrave to take on the ladder leaders the Eastern Devils in their last game of the season. Last time they met the Devils kicked a cricket score and given the Breakers had the bare 18 players they hoped to put up a strong performance and finish the season in a positive way. The weather cracked up early and in very trying conditions the girls put up one of their best efforts for

the season to hold the Devils to 7 goals and make them earn every possession. To a player the girls all contributed and their pressure, effort and discipline shows just how far they have come this season. Hannah Mills and Lucy Vernon marshalled the backline while Sophie Bolding and Ella Angarane in her 51st game were very strong around the stoppages in what was a great team performance.Best: Hannah Mills, Sophie Bolding, Ella Angarane, Lucy Vernon, Tayla Tatterson, Sarah Alweyn Social: Throughout the finals series the social room will host the Friday “Food and Footy Frenzy”. The bar will open and light meals will be served while the footy will be on the big screen. It is a great opportunity to showcase the new rooms, have a few beers, a feed and watch the footy. If you get a chance drop in for a quiet one and help support the club.Vote count day is not yet confirmed but will most probably being after the Grand Final so stayed tuned.

DALYSTON CLUB NOTES

netballThe girls went into the first week of finals with high hopes and though not everything went our way all six sides are competing this weekend. The pace and intensity lifts in finals and teams have to step up or be quickly found out.A Grade: Playing their arch rivals Korumburra-Bena the girls started strongly in the first quarter and got out to a handy lead. The game evened up in the second quarter with the Daly maintaining a 5 goal lead at the break. The girl’s intensity dropped off in the third quarter and the Giants got right back into the contest with scores level at the final change. The Daly needed to lift in the final quarter and the inclusion of Alyce Wylie helped lift the urgency and they responded taking back control and having a good win. Today they take on Tooradin Dalmore and will need to take their game to the next level. Best: Grace McRaeB Grade: Taking on Nar Nar Goon a very even effort saw the Daly set up an 11 goal half time lead. The team got changed around at the break and the girls seemed to lose their way as Nar Nar Goon came back at them and it was game on at the final change. The team reverted back in the final quarter and the girls regained their composure to hang in for a solid win. The

Daly takes on Tooradin Dalmore in the Second Semi and will need to perform for four quarters to get straight into the big dance. Best: Laura WilliamsC Grade: Up against Cora Lynn the game was tight early before the Cobras took control in the second quarter to set up an 8 goal break at half time. The game was pretty even in the last half and the second quarter proved to be telling in the final wash up. The girls take on Bunyip in the first semi and have another chance to stay in the finals race. Best: Hayley VerboonUnder 17’s: Playing Cora Lynn the girls got off to a slow start and trailed by four goals at the first break. They lifted from that point and a strong second quarter saw them go into half time leading by 3. The girls continued on in the second half and went on to record a very good win. In the first semi they take on Korumburra Bena in what should be a very good contest. Best: Chloe Bramley Under 15’s: After getting the week off for being top of the ladder the girls take on Koo Wee Rup in the second semi. Under 13’s: Up against Phillip Island the girls got off to a slow start and played catch up for the rest of the day. While the final 3 quarters were pretty even the Daly just could not get closer on the scoreboard. In the first semi they take on IK and have the opportunity to get back on track. Best: Mataya Maloney

Garfield CLUB NOTES

football

The fourths are the only team representing the Stars in this years finals series, and they played off in the qualifying final on Saturday against rivals Nar Nar Goon on the weekend. Close encounters all year culminated in a hard fought contest, where our boys were unfortunately not the best team on the day. Falling 30 points short, Jett Pickering and Luke Taveira were the sole goalkickers, while Josh Evans, Zaren Kosemans, Will pickering and Zach Loomes were our best. Given the second chance, the boys will look to bounce back this week facing Korumburra-Bena on their home turf. Everyone at the club wishes the boys luck pushing for a spot in the prelim.

All supporters and volunteers at the Stars are being to put

their hands up to help out on September 7, when we host the WGFNL Grand Final. A roster is circulating and if you can spare a few hours, see Rod, Gus, Judy or any committee member to sign up for a job on the day. The more hands on deck the better the day will run.

Another reminder that Presentation Night is coming up on Thursday September 26th.

FOOTBALL & NEtBALL

It was a fantastic effort from our U18s winning the Qualifying Final against Bunyip last Saturday. The conditions were great for football and it was a fabulous effort by the boys. The side has been undermanned all year, so to win on Saturday was a credit to Shane and the boys. We wish you all the very best of luck against Phillip Island in this weekend’s final. On the contrary, last Sunday was a disappointing way to bow out of the finals race for our fourths, reserves and seniors. We need to look at the positives and it was a pleasing year for our U16’s with them making it to this year’s finals. It is a testament to all of the hard work that Lewie, Campbell and the kids themselves have put in over the past three years. Lewie has advised the club that after three years of coaching the U16s he won’t be continuing on next season. It is a massive effort to be coaching the fourths & then playing seniors later in the day. The club would like to thank Lewie and Campbell for the outstanding job that they have done with the kids, as these guys are the future of our club.We would also like to acknowledge Chris Maher for his efforts coaching the reserves this year. With the amount of injuries that we had throughout the season it wasn’t the

easiest of jobs. Chris also will be standing aside to concentrate on building a home and spending more time with his young family. After the last month of senior football where we beat Cora Lynn and Tooradin Dalmore we were all hoping for a better result than what we got last Sunday. Congratulations to Corey Casey on playing his 100th senior game. At only 23 years of age it’s a great achievement. Unfortunately Tom will not be leading our senior side next year due to his new work commitments. We would like to thank Tom for the past season and wish he and Kate all the best in the future. I’m sure we will see him around the club. Thanks also to Dave Newman for assisting Tom throughout the season.

KORUMBURRA-BENA CLUB NOTES

FOOTBALL

As the 2019 season comes to an end we are very proud of our achievements throughout the year, we have worked hard developing our existing players and welcomed new players and families into the Giants, we have had success on the ground in all grades and with the strength and depth coming up from our junior Giants the future is very exciting. This finals season we have our Under 16’s, A Grade and 17 & Unders playing this weekend and we wish them all the best of luck Go Giants.....

Unfortunately our youth girls side went down to Phillip Island in the grand final but wow what a great effort, congratulations to you all for getting to the end and to Craig and Darren for all their hard work and commitment coaching the girls all season.

KBFNC would like to thank all our volunteers for the tireless effort everyone puts in to getting KBFNC up and running every season, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are holding a volunteers afternoon at the grounds after the 1st Semi in appreciation of the hard work all our volunteers provide around our club and we would love to see as many of you there as possible, come have a drink and a BBQ to celebrate.

KORUMBURRA-BENA CLUB NOTES

netball17 & Under

We knew we would have to be on our game to be super competitive against the Inverloch girls. Our defence did not let us down with many great turnovers and rebounds. Our court play was good but we struggled to find the extra turnover to get beyond 2 goals behind for 3/4 of the game. At the late stage of the last quarter we managed to get the turnover needed and were equal. The last five minutes were tense but we let ourselves down with a few errors due to the pressure created by Inverloch. Overall we played a great game and will sharpen up on a few things to prepare us for our game against Daylston. Well done Giants, let’s keep working hard for our finals campaign!! Final Score: Korumburra Bena 22 lost to Inverloch 26AWARDS: Socks – Erin Trewin & Korumburra Sports and Spinal – Heidi Burgess

A Grade

With our 1 win 1 loss history this season the girls felt confident of a good

competitive game against Daylston. Our first quarter was slow with Daylston fired up and not making the same mistake as last time we played them. They were hard to stop and the girls just kept chipping slowly away for 2 quarters to stay in the game. We were managing good passages of play but Daylston were doing the same. We changed our line up for the 3rd quarter and this changed our whole momentum on the court. We opened up the space and found the goalers free. Scores were even for the last quarter. We felt like the game had changed for us but Daylston grabbed a quick turnover at the start then the game slipped away very quickly. We know where our errors were and we will keep working as a team to sharpen them up. We take on NNG this week so hopefully a home crowd and strong netball will bring us a place in the Preliminary Finals. Go Giants!!Final score: Korumburra Bena 45 lost to Dalyston 53AWARDS: Middle Pub – Seanan TrewinThank you to our sponsors:Burra Sports & Cycles, The Middle, Enbom Builders, Korumburra Sports & Spinal Clinic, Luscious, Burra Brewery, Headrush Hair, The Austral

UNFORTUNATELY OUR GAME ON SUNDAY JUST DIDN’T REFELCT ON THE AMAZING SEASON WE HAD TOGETHER. KOO WEE RUP CLUB NOTES NAR NAR GOON CLUB NOTES

FOOTBALLA mixed weekend for the Goon in the first week of the 2019 finals. Our Under 16s played on Saturday at KWR against Garfield and they got off to a terrific start kicking the first five goals of the match. From that point they were able to maintain their lead and came away with a strong 30 point win. Best in a great team effort were Hayden Carney, Tom Ferrari, Tex Marsham, Nate Pipicelli, Bailey Beet and Ryan Menzel. The boys now get a crack at Phillip Island this weekend for a spot in the Grand Final – Good luck. The Under 18s played at Cora Lynn on Sunday in terrific conditions before the change came later in the day. The boys were a bit slow out of the blocks and found themselves chasing tail all day against a strong Cobras outfit. Unfortunately we couldn’t close the gap and went down by 36 points and that put an end to our 2019 season. Better players were Aidan Pipicelli, Darcy Reid-Bradley, Jarra Davis, Darcy Taylor, Jacobus Hynes and Kyle Buckland.Thank you to our U18s coach Dale Hynes, team manager Alex Motta and runner Troy Pipicelli who did a great job to get this team that was short on numbers all the way to the finals. Our Senior Presentation night is on Friday the 13/9/19 at Gumbuya World and our Junior Presentation day is on 15/9/19 at NNG FC.

NETBALLLast week we headed into our finals campaign with our A & B Grade sides. A Grade played an elimination final against Bunyip and came away with the win which will see them play Sunday at Korumburra. B Grade unfortunately lost their qualifying final against Dalyston, but will get a second chance and also play Sunday at Korumburra. Good Luck to both teams today. The Netball Club also wishes the under 16’s footy side Good Luck as they also won their game Saturday and advance through to the next stage of the finals.Don’t forget the Presentation Dates are: Seniors Friday 13th September at Gumbuya World and the Juniors Sunday 15 September at the NNG Football Social Rooms. PHILLIP ISLAND CLUB NOTES

FOOTBALLThis week we make our way into the second week of the finals where we have all 4 sides on display. The Seniors, Thirds and Fourths all play on Saturday and the Ressies have to front up on a Sunday. The Seniors take on the inform Tooradin at Bass, we have had some great games against Tooradin this season, round 6 we won by 22 points but the game a few weeks ago we snuck over the line by just a couple of points. Fingers crossed we could have a few back this week from injury to strengthen the side up. Fun fact: last time we played a final at Bass it was in 2014 and we had a day out against Country footy powerhouse Fish Creek where we won 136-54 and went on to win the 2014 flagReserves – ah well we live to fight another day, but we now have to do it the hard way after a 3 goal loss against our arch rivals Koo Wee Rup. I don’t like to point fingers at the reason why we lost the game but it has to be said, James Mann, who’s he I hear you ask? He played

for the Island between 2006-2010 and managed 67 senior games, who cares I hear you ask? Well this selfish bugger decided to get married, 1 during footy season and 2 in Bali, and he decided to invite club legend and 268 game veteran Rob Linford and one of the coaches Jake weir, fair to say that’s a decent hole left in the side, cheers Manny, also known as the most beautiful human in the cosmos. Anyway, Brains (ironic nickname) played really well for the bulldogs to be named best on and Pup was also a standout. Congratulations to the great Dang-a-lang on his 150th club game for the Island, much like his previous 149 games he hardly got a kick but still got named in the best, pays to be a good bloke I guessPIFNC 6.5.41 def by Koo Wee Rup 9.5.59Goal Kickers: D. NEtBALLU13’s - Quarter Final

The sun was shining for Qualifying finals Dalyston vs Phillip island at Kooweerup courts. Our little girls arrived a bit nervous but settled in as they warmed up to their dance tunes. Island got off to an amazing start sinking the first few goals. Our team was text book perfect throughout the whole game. Great passes, strong leads, awesome defence and shooters accurate. Island had a great lead 1st Q 10/3. Dalyston shuffled a few players and they found some momentum, keeping the next 2 Qs quite even. Our defenders were phenomenal and intercepted and rebounded so many shots. Our midcourters were fast and the ball flowed easily down court using such dynamic passes. Great team work between our shooters allowed them a sneaky pass or shot at goal.Island takes a great win and Coach Cath was very proud of the team. Every single one of our 10 girls took to the court and contributed to our fantastic win. Good luck to Dalyston next week.Scores: Island won 30 to Dalyston 21

U15’s - Elimination Final

These Teams had met twice during the season and both Teams had taken a win each, coming into an elimination final is like wiping the slate clean and starting again – the game could be anyones. Warragul kicked off with the first centre pass which Phillip Island managed to turnover and convert, within the first couple

of centre passes the Island managed to steal and settle back into a good rhythm. Warragul came back and evened the scoreline and both Teams seemed to go goal for goal in the first quarter, the scoreline being 5 goals to 4 in the Islands favour at the end of the first. With some rotational changes in the 2nd quarter, both Teams headed back out and Warragul come out strong, hard and fast and managed to turnover and convert the first few goals. The pressure applied by Warragul through the centre court made life hard for the Island to move the ball easily from one end to the other. Not to be outdone, the Island girls kept making good turnover which kept them in touch with Warragul. By the half time whistle, Warragul lead 11 – 10.Keeping the same Team for the 3rd quarter, Island went back out hoping to settle into a steady rhythm. Warragul had other ideas and again applied enough pressure through the mid court to make moving the ball through court to our shooters, keeping the Island to only 3 goals in the 3rd quarter. Both Teams had awesome support on the sidelines and knew the battle would come down to the last quarter, at many stages the quarter went goal for goal and at one stage the Island girls managed to level the scoreline. The final minutes of the game saw Warragul win some good turnover and peg ahead which kept them in good steed to finish 21 – 17.Congratulations to all Girls, it was a well played game full of good netball. Scores: Island lost 17 to Warragul 21

FOOTBALLSaturday brought a wonderful day for the huge game against Cora Lyn Fc. The boys were up and about and started with the first goal of the game. The opposition followed with the next three. The speed of the game was amazing and both sides skills were fantastic. Tooradin slowly crept to a small lead in the second quarter and from then on their pressure, tackling and ball use was the best we've seen all season. With some inaccurate kicking in the third and fourth quarters, the door was still open for Cora Lyn but mid way through the last quarter, the Seagulls kicked away. NEtBALLIt’s an exciting week for the whole TDFNC as we have our five senior teams across netball and football earning spots in Saturday’s Semi Finals and vying to secure places on Grand Final day. This is such a big achievement for the club and we wish everyone competing this week all the best! Our three senior netball grades enjoyed the week off last week having all finished top of the table and are excited to hit the courts this weekend to kick of their final’s campaigns. The A-Grade and B-Grade girls are both taking on Dalyston, who provided the teams quite the challenge both times they met during the home and away season so this should make for some great netball and a tough final on Saturday. Our C-Grade team will come up against Cora Lynn who they haven’t played since their first game of the season back in March, so they are a bit of an unknown for the girls. Regardless, the girls finished their season playing some great netball and will go out there and do their best again and hopefully come away with a good result.PRESENTATION NIGHT DATES:Our Presentation Nights have been set and we look forward to seeing everyone there to celebrate our great seasons and announce our award winners for 2019!· Junior Presentation Night – Friday 30 August – 6pm, for a 6.30pm start. All junior players will receive a free kid’s meal, soft drink and ice cream and we’ll have music and karaoke to follow the presentations.
