From the Director’s Desk Mechanization of agriculture is an essential input to the modern
Agriculture. It enhances production and productivity besides
Reducing human drudgery and cost of cultivation. Mechanization
also helps in improving utilization efficiencies of other inputs,
safety and comfort of the farm workers and farmers; It improves
the quality and contributes for value addition of the produce.
The Central Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institute,
Budni is a premier institute under the M&T division of the Dept. of Agril. & cooperation,
Ministry of Agriculture, GOI, Functioning since 1955, keeping space with the changing
needs of the farm mechanization, taking a different shape to compete with global
changes by harmonizing with the global standards so that Indian tractor and other
agricultural machinery have easy access not only to developing Asian and African
countries but also to European and U.S. market. The Institute is the only official tractor
testing agency of Government of India and also designated as one of the agencies for
testing of tractors and allied agricultural machines for CMV rules conformance test. It is
the participating member of the OECD for carrying out the official test in accordance
with OECD standard test codes.
The institute conducts different Training Programmes on working principle, operation,
adjustment, service, repair, maintenance, etc for progressive farmers, technicians,
engineers, Govt. in-service personal’s, private company employees, foreign nationals,
farm women etc. for skill development, increased output, improved quality of products
and services, less waste - time, money, materials, people, better utilization of resources
and fewer accidents.
The institute also conducts the demonstration of advance agricultural machinery at
farmers’ field to accelerate the adoption of modern agricultural machinery. It gives
immense to pleasure to release this News Letter to update the information in support for the
Cause of mechanization and in the service of thefarmers as well as various stake holders.

The training on selection, operation, safety and maintenance of improved
agricultural machinery, repair and overhauling of stationary engines and tractors was
given with a view to impart the technical skills through practical hands on training.
Two training programme was organized for the Farmers and Technician as U2 and T1
for 6 week duration, during the month of April to June 2014. All around One Hundred
Sixteen trainees were trained in these farmer & technician level courses.
Training courses of one - four week duration were conducted for the degree
and diploma engineering students on farm power & machinery. The students were
imparted hands on training about study of different systems of the 5 hp engine and
tractor like engine, transmission, hydraulic system, electrical system and tractor
maintenance. Beside these, they were exposed to the field demonstration & operation
of agricultural machinery and implements, driving practice on tractor, the testing labs
and different tests being conducted on tractor at Budni. During the month of April to
June total of Sixty four engineering and diploma students from various colleges all
across the country were participated and successfully completed training.
NEED BASED COURSES
This Institute conducted courses of One week duration for the executives of
tractor manufacturer and Technician of the M/s New Holland Fiat India Ltd. During
the month April to June, 2014. One hundred fourteen company representatives from
across the country participated in the course.
The training was imparted on different systems of the New Holland tractor
like hydraulic system, Electrical system and track setting adjustment in the tractor,
its use in field and tractor maintenance. Orientation programme of advanced
agricultural machinery for tillage, sowing, intercultural, harvesting, straw
management and specialized machinery as laser leveler was also conducted. The

Mechanization of agriculture is an essential input to the modern agriculture. It
enhances productivity, besides reducing human drudgery and cost of cultivation.
Mechanization also helps in improving utilization efficiencies of other inputs. As compared to
some of the neighboring states, pace of mechanization of agriculture in India is not to the
desired level.
The main thrust of this Institute, has been to help the farmers to raise the farm
productivity through custom hiring of machines and introduction of improved farm machinery
and equipment’s at farm level. So as to contribute to this essence, in this quarter conducts
training on judicious use of agricultural machineries on custom hiring basis for the Madhya
Pradesh people.
