Hello Royal Families,
Happy spring! As the weather warms, we look forward to a busy season filled with student learning, extra-curricular activities, sports, performances and so much more. In this edition, I wanted to highlight a few of these upcoming events for your planning and preparations.
State Testing – Prior to each test we will be sending out notification, as well as informing our students at school, who will be taking the scheduled tests. Students who are not scheduled to take the Science (WCAS) and Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) will have late arrivals on the day of the test. Here are the dates for these upcoming assessments –
*SBA (Math) – May 26, 27 *SBA (English) – May 28, 29 *WCAS (Science) – June 1
Senior activities – Stay tuned for an email with a flier that will detail all the happenings for the class of 2020. The culminating activity will be graduation on June 13 at 7:30 P.M. at Edmonds Stadium.
Registration – Students will be registering for classes in March/April, which will in turn help to inform the master schedule and classes we create for next year. Our school team and counselors have been doing a lot of work to help inform your student about their choices and requirements but the more conversations about this the better. If you have any questions about your student’s registration needs, please do not hesitate to reach
out to their counselor or me.
We appreciate all the support, encouragement, and monitoring you are doing for your child. This is definitely a season that, while they might
not show it, students need and will appreciate us watching their grades and making sure they have what they need to be successful.
Go, Royals!

Help” page of the Counseling & Career website for valuable information!).
Select the dates you wish to register for the ACT or SAT.
Seniors – Check the “Scholarship List” in Naviance for opportunities to be
awarded money to help pay for training, certificates, or degrees after high

Seniors – Class of 2020
Watch out for the dreaded “senioritis!” It is important for
you to continue working hard in classes. You don’t want
graduation to be in jeopardy and colleges want to see a
strong finish! Be sure to check your credits and make sure
you’re on track to graduate or make plans to finish up in
the summer.
Community and Technical Colleges
Applications are being accepted for fall enrollment at
community and technical colleges. It is wise to visit the col-
leges in person, but you may apply online. All of the colleg-
es have informational websites and financial aid services.
Don’t forget to apply for scholarships and complete the
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
4-year Colleges and Universities
Here is a quick check-list of tasks that need to be accom-
plished.
Mid-year reports and transcripts have been sent out if
you’ve requested them.
If you have not already done so, submit completed
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
as soon as possible. You may do this online at
www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Even if you have already been accepted, keep those
grades up! Final transcripts will be mailed in June
and it is not unheard of for colleges to rescind of-
fers when they see a poor performance for 2nd
semester.
If you’ve been accepted somewhere, please come to
the counseling office and tell us!
Juniors – Class of 2021
In just a few months you will be seniors! Now is the time to
start making post-high school plans. Spring break or this
summer is a great time to make visits to four-year, commu-
nity & technical colleges, and to start looking into various
career training opportunities. The Edmonds School District
College Night is April 16th at Meadowdale HS 7pm. Be sure
to attend.

year. To prepare, students can make use of the sample questions that appear online at the test addresses below
and prep books available at libraries, bookstores, and the LHS Career Center. Preparation courses are available for
a fee through EAN at www.educationaccessnetwork.org (or call Student Services at 206-527-8400 ext. 3), and
through Kaplan test preparation at www.kaptest.com. Free test prep is available at collegeboard.com (SAT ques-
tion of the day), or number2.com. Khanacademy.org/sat also has SAT practice online.
SAT Test Dates/Deadlines: Visit www.collegeboard.org for registration information
ACT Test Dates/Deadlines: Visit www.act.org for registration information
Freshmen & Sophomores
Look over your credits during registration and make an appointment with your counselor if you have questions or
need to take summer school to make up some credit. Make your course selections carefully, as classes are difficult
to change in September.
Progress Reports
Progress reports will be available on Skyward Family Access on April 16th.
Teacher Contact
You can contact your student’s teacher by email or voice mail. Email addresses are lastnamefirstini-
[email protected] . You can also access email addresses and phone numbers on the LHS website.
Here are some tips to help you and your student work toward having a successful finish to the school year:
Use SKYWARD Family Access to access grades, attendance…etc. For technical assistance or to retrieve your

Have your student show you what assignments are coming up in Canvas. Contact your student’s teacher if you
have trouble logging in.
Students may use Tutorial (7:05 – 7:20am) to get caught up on assignments and to ask teachers questions about
their various classes.
Students may also use Advisory (9:10 – 9:35) to visit teachers for help (with a pass).
Study Club is Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 2-3:30pm in the library and there’s late bus transportation.
