World’s First Laptop!!

Bill Moggridge, a top British industrial designer created the 1st laptop in 1979.

The world 1st laptop Grid Compass (shown above) was initially used by the US Military before it went to hit the retail market.

Bill has died on September 11, 2012 after losing a battle against cancer.

May his soul rest in peace

Please take a moment to pray for his soul who is one of the pioneers in Mobile Computing…

Amazing Facts About Google Maps!!How much data has Google Maps accumulated so far?!• Google maps has over 20 petabytes of satellite + aerial + street level imagery data, which is equal to approximately 21 million gigabytes (GB) !!

How often the maps images are getting updated?!• Averagely, aerial & satellite images are updated every 2 weeks.

• Street View images are updated as quickly as possible, though Google wasn't able to offer specific schedules, due to its dependence on factors such as weather, driving conditions, etc.

Does Google blurs every individual face captured in the Street View?!• In a effort to protect people privacy, Google employs automatic face & license plate blurring technology to blur the individual face

• There is also an option available for users for requesting additional blurring

What type of camera is used for Street View?• The Street View camera systems have 15 lenses & can produce photos at about 65 megapixel resolution!! That’s really cool

Cloud Computing – Cool

Tidbits!!By 2015, the Internet will connect 2.5 Billion people & more than 15 billion devices!! Wow! That’s a real big number

More than 2% of electricity in the U.S. is consumed by datacenters!!

Did you know that for every 600 smartphones or 120 tablets, a new server is added to the cloud?!

90% of Microsoft’s 2011 R&D budget was spent on cloud computing strategy & products

64% of the companies have reduced waste & has low energy consumption levels after shifting to Cloud Computing.

65% of the US companies shifted to cloud in 2011

80% of the companies have experienced immense progress just within half year i.e. just 6 months after moving to cloud.

About 14% of the companies have downsized their IT after cloud adoption

Half of the U.S. government IT workers say that they have moved their work to the cloud

HTML5 – Offline &

Storage

HTML5 introduced many storage APIs that let you store a large amount of data locally in your users' browsers..

Because of this, Web Apps can start faster & work even if there is no internet connection!!

Like cookies, this data persists even after you navigate away from the web site, close your browser tab, exit your browser etc., This is indeed a very cool feature…

Unlike cookies, offline data is never transmitted to the remote web server (unless you go out of your way to send it manually).

Unlike all previous attempts at providing persistent local storage, it is implemented natively in web browsers, so it is available even when third-party browser plugins are not.
