Curriculum

The Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum

Throughout Term 3 and Term 4, our school will be implementing the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum with students in all classes from Prep to Year 6. The curriculum is based on principles of best practice in child safety education and centres around three key messages: Recognise, React and Report. Through a series of lessons, students will learn how to recognise, react and report when they are unsafe or find themselves in situations that can have a significant detrimental effect on their physical, psychological or emotional wellbeing. Information about the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum can be found at www.education.qld.gov.au/child-safety-curriculum.

University Of NSW English And Mathetics Tests

The University of NSW English Test will be held on Tuesday 2 August and the University of NSW Mathematics Test will be held on Tuesday 16 August. Tests will take place in the library commencing at 9 am. Practice Tests and an accompanying letter outlining further details will be sent home later this week.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data On Students With

Disability (NCCD)

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on school students with Disability (the national data collection) is an annual collection that counts the number of school students with disability and the level of reasonable educational adjustment with which they are provided. The national data collection counts students who have been identified by a school team as receiving an adjustment to address a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (the DDA). The aim of the national data collection is to collect quality information about school students with disability in Australia. This information will help teachers, principals, education authorities and families to better support students with disability to take part in school on the same basis as students without disability. All schools across Australia collect information about students with disability. But the type of information currently collected varies between each state and territory and across government, Catholic and independent school sectors. When undertaking the national data collection, every school in Australia will use the same method to collect information. Therefore, a government school in suburban Sydney will collect and submit data in the same way as a Catholic school in country Victoria and an independent school in the Northern Territory. The information provided through the national data collection will enable all Australian governments to improve target support and resources to benefit students with disability.

Information will be recorded in such a way that no child can be identified. Student names will not be collected. Inclusion in the data collection is voluntary. If you wish your young person to be excluded from this, you can choose to opt out of the data collection by informing the school Principal in writing as soon as possible. You can click on the following website link to access the fact sheet which provides Information for Parents/Carers www.education.gov.au/nationally-consistent-collection-data-school-students-disability or contact your child’s school if you have further questions about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability.

Library News

Welcome back and congratulations to all the students who kept reading throughout the holidays. I have received many Reading Challenge forms and continue to reward students with awards for their magnificent efforts. Today I have attached a flyer for a book launch in August that will be held in Salisbury. The publication is 'A Patch from Scratch', a book all about finding joys in the garden, caring for plants and animals as well as sharing the abundance with friends and neighbours. Book week will be held in week 8 this term with the annual parade being held on Friday September 2. The 2016 theme is Australia: Story Country and will focus on our sense of belonging and the many works by Australian authors and illustrators.

Totally Tranquil Tuesday

The library is a much loved space used by the children at CTK. At lunch times it often becomes very noisy due to the number of people interacting and playing board games with each other. This week I introduced Totally Tranquil Tuesday to encourage students to use the library space for quiet time and reading. We had numerous children who took advantage of this and spent time reading either on their own or with a friend. Truly lovely to see!

Premier's Reading Challenge

We have a few new families at CTK, so if you would like your child to participate, email me at [email protected] . Each child only has to read a minimum of 20 books (or 15 books for Years 5 and 6) to qualify for a certificate signed by the Premier. Should children wish to read more they will be rewarded by certificates that I create for them. When borrowing books from the library there are boxes available filled with ‘suggested reading’ for each age group. Please remind your children that they can borrow from these boxes throughout the challenge.

Book Club

The latest book club catalogues were sent home this week, and there is a great selection of titles suitable

for all ages and reading levels. Every purchase helps our school earn reward points, which we use to

purchase new books for our library.

If you would like to place an order, you can pay securely online through Scholastic, or if you would like to

pay with cash or cheque, please fill out an order form and return it to the school office.

Please have all orders in, either online or to the office by Thursday the 28th July.

Thank you for supporting our school library.

This brochure is aimed not only at parents but also educators who wish to know more about the younger

child and especially how to meet their deep inner religious hungers. It explores the research of the last 60

years by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi and shares the hands on materials that have been proven to

help the child encounter God and experience an ever deepening relationship with Him.
