The clause allowing 9 water bodies to chemically treat a greater percentage of littoral area than the rest of the lakes in Minnesota is set to expire over a 5-year timeframe (by April 15, 2014). The DNR will develop lake vegetation management plans (LVMP) for each of the water bodies during that 5-year time period. The LVMP is a document the DNR develops with public input to address aquatic vegetation issues on a lake and allows a targeted management plan to address those issues. The Department of Natural Resources will be developing a lake vegetation management plan (LVMP) for Sunfish Lake Dakota County (19005000) in 2012. We are looking to partner with Lake Association and Lower Minnesota River Watershed District and Dakota County SWCD and encourage your involvement in the LVMP process. We want to create a drafting committee to develop the LVMP. The drafting committee will consist of no more than 7 members and consists of 2 people from the DNR, a person from the watershed district, up to 3 people from Lake Association/Riparian Owners, and 1 other interested party (such as municipality if applicable). Meetings with the drafting committee will take place during business hours so we encourage those interested in the drafting committee be available for those times. We will be conducting a summer vegetation point-intercept survey this year to catalog the current status of Sunfish Lake’s plant community. The drafting committee will integrate the plant survey data into the LVMP, gather and provide the public input, and have a draft plan available for public comment by January 2013. We encourage your participation to develop a good plan that will guide aquatic plant management efforts on Sunfish Lake. If you have any questions regarding the LVMP process or aquatic plant management feel free to contact Sean Sisler 1200 Warner Rd. St. Paul, MN 55106; 651-259-5807; [email protected]. Updates and Handouts Item X. a. LMRWMO Meeting 8-16-12

From: Manhatton, Meghan (CI-StPaul) To: Jester, Laura Cc: Robbins, Adam (CI-StPaul) Subject: Pickerel Lake Update Date: Tuesday, August 07, 2012 3:03:14 PM

Hi Laura, Adam mentioned that you may be interested in a Pickerel Lake progress update. To date, we've utilized 282 hours of the 700 Clean Water Legacy-Conservation Corps hours. I think we're on track to use the entire allotment this year. We've also tracked just over $3000 in Saint Paul Parks and Recreation staff time supervising the Conservation Corps crews and doing additional natural resource restoration work at the site. Our efforts have focused on herbaceous invasive species control on both shoreline sites. We also had a very successful prescribed burns at the south/bat cave prairie on April 6th, and the north/canoe launch prairie on April 20th. Photos are attached. Let me know if you have any questions Thanks! Meghan Manhatton Natural Resource Technician Saint Paul Parks and Recreation [email protected] (651) 632-2459 (651) 248-9066
