The music industry wanted to sell downloads.As many as they can.
And get paid for each sale.
But they only get paid ONCE
But it’s calculated against total plays:
total artist playstotal amount of plays x total revenue = per play
payout
Most streaming services pay per play.
Meaning, artists get paid a percentage of total revenue based on their “market” share
….meaning, your “market share” on a service is important.
….....meaning, artists who proactively encourage plays will do relatively better than artists who don’t.
Standing still is not an option.
