The choose kind theme began in the summer with many families reading Wonder. The book stresses that all individuals are able to practice kindness. Students are using the choose kind movement throughout the school. Just this week, I witnessed an older student helping a younger student pick up items dropped on the ground and two first grade students comforting a friend who was upset. Finally, Emily Zeek, a sixth grade student, took the choose kind movement to the next level. She created kindness notes and placed them on the 6th grade classrooms doors. Mrs. Essex, 6th grade Language Arts teacher, expanded the ideal. Each 6th grade student created a kindness ripple and posted it in the school. Students are able to take a ripple from each poster and share special messages about kindness with others. From The DistrictShare Your Input Via New ThoughtexchangeMilford Schools will once again offer parents, students, and community members an opportunity to share their input on a variety of topics through an online forum called Thoughtexchange. It is the second year our district has used this online learning process to engage with our stakeholders.

Through Thoughtexchange, there are three steps that you will be invited to participate in online:Share - answer open-ended questions about our district.Star – check back and review ideas from other participants and star the ideas you like best. Discover - learn what is important to the school community as a whole.

This first Thoughtexchange will go live on Monday, September 17 and run through 11 p.m. on Thursday, September 27. We are looking for feedback on the following question, “What do you appreciate about Milford Schools and where could we improve?”

The district will be sending out a link via email to participate in this Thoughtexchange on September 17. A summary of the results will be shared later this fall.

McCormickFest Eagle Sponsor SpotlightBright Futures Family Chiropractic was started by Dr. Stephanie Spiers and her husband Brad, both Milford High School graduates. Our mission is to create a tribe of families who experience life to its full potential through an optimally functioning nervous system. We are a beacon of light to guide our community to a brighter future and we honor and respect the inborn wisdom of the body to express itself fully and shine through as many men, women and children as possible.

Dr. Stephanie has three kids (two at McCormick and one headed there next year), and she has modeled the practice to reflect the needs that she has as a mother—the practice has shifted toward primarily providing family wellness care. She understands how hard it is to raise kids today with influences from so many different avenues. Bright Futures offers a place where moms can come to get guidance and support, to find an alternative to what they may hear on the news or read on the internet. Our goal is to empower families to make conscious health care decisions and support them on the path of their choosing.
