The fresh snow on the ground does little to excite the green thumb in a person, though it does make it easier for the falcon in the front yard to spot the newly returned spring birds in the trees. As least for some creatures, it makes life a little easier. I wanted students to think about their goals and how we develop them. As future citizens, students must learn to set goals. Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about their future and motivation to turn dreams into reality. The process of setting goals helps us choose where we want to go in life. By knowing precisely what we want to achieve, we know where we must concentrate our efforts. We will also quickly spot the distractions that can, so easily, lead us astray. While the goals we set may not be as life changing as that of the song bird or falcon previously mentioned, how we set them and why we set them does affect the outcomes. Dear Families,

The third quarter has passed by us and report cards should have

found their way home by now. Please feel free to contact your

child’s teacher if you have any questions regarding the report card.

As I write this, you would not know it was spring. The fresh snow

on the ground does little to excite the green thumb in a person,

though it does make it easier for the falcon in the front yard to

spot the newly returned spring birds in the trees. As least for some

creatures, it makes life a little easier. Discussing this with my sons

at home, we realized that while the snow may impede one

individual’s goals, it may support the goals of another. The song

bird’s goal may be to reach a warmer climate, while the falcon’s is

more than likely to get his next meal.

Our word for the month of April is “goals”. I wanted students to

think about their goals and how we develop them. As future

citizens, students must learn to set goals. Goal setting is a

powerful process for thinking about their future and motivation to

turn dreams into reality. The process of setting goals helps us

choose where we want to go in life. By knowing precisely what

we want to achieve, we know where we must concentrate our

efforts. We will also quickly spot the distractions that can, so

easily, lead us astray.

While the goals we set may not be as life changing as that of

the song bird or falcon previously mentioned, how we set them

and why we set them does affect the outcomes. Take time to sit

down with our future citizens and ask them what their goals are.

Give them some advice developed out of those hard earned

experiences we have had.

With the first part of the PARCC in our rear view mirrors (whew!!), we are now preparing ourselves for PARCC Testing: Part Deux. It is important for our students to continue to work hard. Please remind your child to strive towards putting forth their best effort by completing assignments, being prepared for class, taking notes, keeping a positive attitude and participating to their fullest in all areas. Keeping with that attitude will help them to finish strong and will prepare them for a great summer and a wonderful start to their 7th grade year! Mrs. Malcolm and Mrs. Ebbing are Keeping It Real as they continue to delve through the gripping historical fictional novel, The Devil’s Arithmetic. By the time we are finished, we will all be Kolboynick’s to the plight of the Jewish people during the Holocaust. We are currently working on Ch.’s 4-6. Mrs. Adcock and Mrs. Hawk are Getting Down and Dirty as they dig their way through the Rocks, Minerals and Soil unit in science. Miss. Waltz’s classes are continuing to Bring Down the House (or the Chinese Wall) as they advance through a unit on the Ancient Chinese civilization. Mrs. Sanders’s classes are endeavoring to become Fiscally Responsible as they learn to balance and budget their way through an economics unit. Mrs. Longbrake and Mrs. Maag are Frolicking through units on statistics and geometry respectively. Way to Divide

and conquer ladies!!

We hope that all the students enjoy the Spring Break with their families, and the students come back well-rested for the final two months of school. The end of the year will be quite busy and time will seem to pass quickly. The end of the year testing will include: ELA-April 14th; Math-April 22/23rd; and Science-May 5th. Team 5-1 (April 16) and Team 5-2 (April 17) will be participating in a fieldtrip to Teddy Bear Park sponsored by the Allen County Soil and Water Conservation District. The students will be involved in several science-related activities. Permission slips have been sent home with students. Upcoming events: Team Time-Monday, April 13th and 27th-2 hour delays D.A.R.E. concert– May 14-Civic Center

Congratulations to Jakob

Sexton, Billy Jahnz, and

Lawrence Slygh. The boys

all qualified for the Ohio

State Wrestling Tournament

held in Youngstown last

week.

Spring is here and the 8th grade students and teachers are preparing for the future. The students have

finished scheduling for their high school classes and have turned in the needed documentation. Students met with

their high school guidance counselors, filled out their requests, asked for recommendations, and scheduled online

during the month of March.

As we move in to April, students are preparing for Career Shadow Day and our second round of testing.

Career Shadow Day will take place on April 23rd. Students will be asked to find a place that will allow them to

shadow an employee for the day. Students will have follow-up assignments in regards to what they learned and

experienced while out in the field. Please look for more information soon. Starting on April 14th, students will

begin the state required, end of the year assessments. Please encourage your student to be well rested and to eat a

good breakfast each day.

As we move in to May, students are looking forward to FroshFest and the Washington DC trip.

As we begin the last nine weeks of the school year, students are encouraged to keep up with their

homework as well as studying for quizzes and tests. This grading period will help determine whether a

student passes a subject for the year. It will also determine next year’s fall sports eligibility for football,

cross country, volleyball, and cheerleading.

Parents are asked to continue to monitor their son/daughter’s schoolwork to make sure that it is not

being neglected. Warmer spring weather can lead to temptations to neglect doing homework. A big

thank you ahead of time to parents who check up on their child’s progress in school and who encourage

their child to finish the year stong.
