From Coast to Coast, Fighting Verizons

Attack on Good Jobs and also our Customers.

4,500 CWA members in Verizon West ended their contract with VerizonCommunications at midnight on September 11th. Verizon West workers include FiOStechnicians, operators, call center representatives, customer service representatives, cablesplicers, field technicians for business and residential service, buried service wireemployees and other job titles throughout California.

CWA and Verizon began negotiating the terms of a new contract on Jan. 28 2013.Although the CWA and Verizon agreed to extend the contract beyond the original March9 deadline, the Union said that it was "canceling the extension" at 11:59 on Wednesdaynight September 11th 2013 due to "slow progress at the bargaining table."

WHATS AT STAKE?Despite enormous profitability (see below), Verizon has dug in on a sweeping set oftakeback demands that would kill the American Dream for 4,500 middle-class workers atVerizon. The total value of Verizons demands is close to $100 millionan average of$20,000 per worker. Contract negotiations began on January 28th 2013. In the subsequent37 weeks, management refused to compromise on any of these unprecedented attacks.Their demands include:

Freezing the wages on pensions effective Jan. 1, 2014 for active employees, eliminating

pensions for new workers, and removing supplemental compensation, like TPA, salescompensations from Pensions.

    Slashing disability benefits for workers injured on the job;

    Eliminating job security by continuing the outsourcing of our work to non- unioncontractors, including overseas to India, the Philippines, Costa Rica and Mexico;

Contracting out over 30% of the FIOS work, at a time when there is NO Build going on inCalifornia.

Majorcuts to Sick Benefits/Short Term Disability for Core and RWS.

Removal of all paid bereavement days for Aunts and Uncles, and absences for death of

immediate family members will now be deducted from sick leave accumulation. Imposing Healthcare Contributions of up to $9,060.00 - (EPO) - on active employees, whilesome are currently supporting families on $ 15.72 per hour. All while cutting the level ofcoverage and raising deductibles and out of pocket maximums.

    Does this Sound Familiar?

VERIZON IS HUGELY PROFITABLE, ITS EXECUTIVE PAY IS EXORBITANT AND IT

    CANAFFORD TOTREATWORKERS FAIRLY

Verizon earned close to $20 billion in profits in the last 3 years.

Verizon is on track to earn over $7 billion in 2013.

Verizon Wireless in the past recently declared a $10 billion dividend ($4.5 billion of

which went out of the country to Vodaphone). Now Verizon is using its cash and the money they cut from union members

benefits to pay $130 Billion to purchase Vodaphones stake in Verizon (whichmeans even more of our American dollars will also leave the country).

Lowell McAdams total compensation for the last two years was over $37 millionwhich works out to $50,000 per day, 365 days a year.

In total, the top executives of Verizon were paid over $300 million in compensationover the last four years.

Ifthey so choose, none of the children of any of these executives will ever have towork a day in their lifetimes.

A PROFITABLE COMPANYLIKEVERIZON SHOULD BE CREATING GOOD,

    MIDDLE-CLASSJOBS INAMERICA, NOTDESTROYINGTHEM

Verizon has eliminated more than 70,000 wireline jobs in the last 6 years, even though

many other Corporations are continuing to build narrow the digital divide. Verizon worker productivity has increased by 38% or $150,000 per worker.

Verizon is investing more of our US dollars to build a new call center in thePhilippines while Long Beach and Oxnard Live Source Operators are gettingoutsourced.

Call center work has been exported to at least 4 other countries, including Canada,Costa Rica, the Philippines and Mexico.

Verizon sent thousands of jobs overseas, doing work identical to that done byunionized workers in Southern California; Youngstown Ohio; Syracuse;Providence; Hampton, VA; and Freehold, NJ.

In March 2012, the company announced that 3,175 workers in Washington,Texas and Michigan would be affected by similar moves after Verizonannounced it would close or consolidate its operations at several call centersin the U.S.

From California to the Northeast, Voice Link Threatens

Good Jobs and also our Customers

In Verizon West bargaining, Verizon is trying to gut pensions, charge current/retiredworkers thousands of dollars more for health benefits, cut disability benefits for

workers injured on the job, contract out more work, and on and on (sound familiar?). Verizon is also moving ahead with Voice Link in California. Voice Link is part of Verizons plan to de-Unionize from coast to coast. We need good jobs and good customer service, not jobs destroyed after customers are

    forced onto Voice Link.

Verizon must stop cherry-picking where it builds FiOS. We need good jobs and goodcustomer service Verizon must build FiOS everywhere.

In New York, CWA stopped Verizon from abandoning wireline service on Fire Island. In California, Verizon West workers stood up for Verizon East and Verizon Wireless

workers during the Verizon and Verizon Wireless strikes.

We will not allow Verizon to destroy our jobs and also hurt our customers.

Tell Verizon: Verizon East and Verizon West

Workers are United for Good Jobs and Good

    Customer Service.
