Prescription Safety Glass Allowance Offered to EmployeesRiverView is providing a prescription safety glass allowance to employees who have purchased prescription safety glasses between March 1, 2020 and Dec. 31, 2020. The allowance is $44 for single vision, $67 for bi-focal, $77 for tri-focal and $90 for progressive lenses. The employee will need to complete an Employee Expense Form and attach a copy of the bill for the glasses and the bill must indicate which type of lenses were purchased. The form must be signed by your eader and then can be turned in to Accounts Payable/Finance for processing. Just a reminder that you cannot use your Flex or HSA money to pay for RiverView’s portion. If you have any questions please contact Human Resources.

Brand Advocates Receive RiverView ApparelSeveral employees were recently rewarded as RiverView brand advocates. What is a brand advocate? A brand advocate is someone who elevates your brand through word of mouth marketing.

Employee advocates (YOU!) know everything about our business. Your inside knowledge, combined with your relatable nature, makes you a powerful tool in advocacy!

Social media adds a completely new element to word-of-mouth marketing.

In January, we launched a drawing for employees who “like’’ and “share’’ social media posts on Facebook and Instagram. Each month an employee’s name is drawn from all of the employees participating in social media sharing for a quarter-zip RiverView pullover. The following employees are recent winners:

• June: Brenda Nordlum• July: Alisa Leas• August: Mandy Cassavant

Share RiverView’s posts on social media and you may be the next winner!

Mark Your Calendars for the Oct. 7 Grand Opening CelebrationRiverView Health’s building project, RiverView 2020, is nearing the finish line! After years of dreaming and planning, it’s time for the ribbon cutting.

The public is invited to celebrate the new state-of-the-art facility at the Wednesday, Oct. 7 grand opening celebration. The event will take place in the parking lot on the east side of the new building at 323 S. Minnesota Street, Crookston.

Attendees can stay in their vehicles and listen to the program on KROX radio (1260 AM or 105.7 FM) or may get out of their cars if they wish but must follow COVID-19 safety guidelines. Best practice social distancing will be observed. Masks will be required to be within six feet of others.

A video tour of the facility will be shown on an outdoor screen during the program. Refreshments will be distributed. A fireworks display will begin at approximately 8:15 pm to cap off the festivities.

RiverView 2020 is a $51 million project consisting of an 80,0000 square foot, two-story building to replace RiverView’s current hospital and clinics. The upper level of the building consists of the Inpatient Unit with 18 universal patient rooms, three labor and delivery rooms, and four family suites. Every room has a private bathroom and a large floor plan to allow caregivers adequate space to provide patient care and room to ensure family and friends are comfortable. The ground level is home to all three of RiverView’s current Crookston clinics consolidated into one large clinic. The new clinic has 48 exam rooms, four procedure rooms, and four consultation rooms. The project also includes a lobby café, relocated gift shop, and an 80-occupant training and conference center.

The new facility is scheduled to open on Oct. 25.

September 20-26 is National Rehab Awareness WeekIt’s National Rehabilitation Awareness Week! We celebrate our great RiverView Rehab Services Team for going above and beyond every day to provide exceptional care to our patients.

Rehabilitation therapists need both a thorough knowledge of the human body and the right mix of patience and understanding. Their expertise continues to expand, so that modern rehab techniques employ the latest strategies to help patients reach their goals.

National Rehabilitation Week began in 1976 . It promotes the value of rehabilitation, highlighting the capability of the professionals who help minimize disabilities and restore those affected by disease or injury.

Rehab Services Director Crystal Maruska shared the following: “The Rehab Team is a dedicated and motivated group. Many team members are working on expanding their skill sets and obtaining new certifications which takes time and diligence in addition to providing daily patient care. I am honored to lead this team as we provide safe and exceptional care for the Crookston and surrounding communities.’’

Below is a list of the individuals who make up RiverView’s powerful Rehab Services Team.

RV Adds Ultraviolet Disinfection Robots to Cleaning ProtocolIn its ongoing efforts to assure patient and staff safety, RiverView Health recently increased its stringent disinfection efforts by adding ultraviolet light (UVC) disinfection technology to its already-extensive hygiene program.

The Skytron 2280 Syndicate UVC robot is an advanced, paired system designed to emit germicidal energy to provide fast, effective disinfection treatments. UVC radiation renders harmful microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses ineffective by destroying the genetic information in the DNA. The microorganisms lose their reproductive capability and are destroyed. The germicidal nature of UVC is well suited to treat parasites which are ex-tremely resistant to chemical disinfectants.

The UVC robots are a key part of the battle against healthcare-associated infections and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

RiverView received a COVID-19 Health Care Response Grant for $150,000 from the Minnesota Department of Health to purchase two sets of the infection control robots.

“We were very fortunate to receive the grant to allows us to purchase the Skytron Syndicate,’’ shared Jennifer Tate, RiverView’s Environmental Services (EVS) manager. “Patient safety is one of RiverView's top priorities. I know the EVS staff does an exceptional job keeping our environment disinfected and safe. Now the UVC Syndicate gives us that extra safeguard to disinfect the environment for our patients and residents.’’

Extensive research was done by a team made up of employees from a variety of departments to determine the best method of disinfection. Tate credits Mario Gomez, Supply Chain director with working to secure two sets of the robots with the grant dollars.

One set will be used in the Operating Room and the other set will be housed on the Inpatient Unit and also used in the Emergency Department, Care Center and clinics.

“With the Syndicate we are able to cover more area in less time and they have a longer life span than the other robots available,’’ Tate continued. “I felt it had better safety features and the biggest selling point is the robot will automatically calculate the run time based on the size of the room. This is a huge benefit and takes away the chance of user error.’’

The robots treat to a “disinfection standard” rather than a “time standard.” This means that the goal is to kill 99.999% of pathogens on all surfaces in the room. The robot automatically calculates the treatment time based on the size of the room and other characteristics like humidity, temperature and reflective surfaces. After detecting these characteristics, the robot calculates the amount of time it needs to be running to cause the 99.999% kill rate in all pathogens on each surface in the room. Run times usually vary between 8 to 30 minutes.

Clinic Visit Charge for COVID-19 Testing Covered by RV PlanWe were recently made aware that employees and their dependents on RiverView’s Health Plan that have had COVID-19 testing done were having the Clinic visit charge applied towards their deductible and if the deductible hadn’t been met were then responsible to pay this charge. The Plan is required to cover both charges at 100% and UMR has started to reprocess these claims and will issue checks to the providers. If you have any questions please contact Human Resources.

Being Prepared for an Emergency Event is the Best Safety PlanWhat types of emergency events could happen at RiverView?

• Snow storms and power outages• Workplace Violence• Fire events• Flooding• Gas leaks and hazardous material

incidentsWhat Happens in the event of an Emergency at RiverView Health?

• Activation of the Emergency Operations plan

• In some instances evacuation of the facility (gas leak, chemical exposure or active intruder)

• In some instances evacuation of patients (flooding)

• An external disaster (like train derail-ment or school bus crash) critical care teams would be established to care for the wounded

• Incident Command would be initiatedWhat is Incident Command?

• The Incident Command System (ICS) is a management system designed to enable effective and efficient domestic incident management by integrating a combination of facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures, and communications operating within a common organizational structure.

How would RiverView team members be aware of the Emergency Incident?• Overhead paging, emails and texts

What do team members do in the event of internal disaster requiring evacuation (ex. chemical spill)?• Evacuate out your nearest exit and report to the labor pool• Always be aware of your exits and paths that are available to safely exit the facility• Active Intruder Response is-Run-Hide-Fight

What is the labor pool?• The labor pool is the available staff resources RiverView has in the event of an emergency• There will be a location identified for team members to gather in the event of an evacuation• The labor pool location for evacuation is located at RiverView Home Care (across the street from Stenshoel’s

funeral home)• All team members would report to RiverView Home Care as safely and quickly as possible and sign in• After team members have been accounted for and the risks identified teams would be sent home or gathered to

be part of the critical care team• If the threat has been cleared an “All clear” will be sent out from the incident command center (Located at Oak

Court) and team members may be able to report back to work• In the event of an evacuation exit in a calm manner listening carefully to any overhead instructions• Driving or walking to the labor pool location is acceptable based on the distance and the type of emergency

Evening

Breathe DeepOne surefire way to decompress from the day you’ve had: deep breathing. Stress tends to make our breathing more shallow, says Domar. Deep breaths can up your oxygen and bring a sense of calm. Rest one hand an inch above your belly button. As you inhale, your hand should rise an inch. Count down from 10 to zero with each inhalation, then exhale slowly.

Night

Go to Bed Already! Most adults need at least seven hours of sleep a night—but many of us get less than that. Too little quality shut-eye raises the risk of asthma, heart attack, and depression. Research also suggests that chronic poor sleep may increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes. Hitting the hay may be one of the best self-care moves you make all day.

Morning Stretch It Out

Midday Take a Stroll

Getting away from work for a few minutes helps your health “by calming the autonomic nervous system,

lowering your blood pressure, and allowing you time to recover,” says Alice Domar, PhD. Research also

suggests that simply moving your body — like climbing stairs or taking a short walk — may help protect against

depression, even if you’re not pumped to get started.

When it comes to self-care, even a few minutes can be meaningful. Try a time-saving tweak or two — batch your emails, meal prep on Sundays, streamline your morning routine — and spend those spare minutes on yourself.

Easy Ways to Sneak in Self-Care

Resist the urge to hit snooze on your alarm clock and instead roll out your yoga mat and om your way to a

better day. Yoga may lessen symptoms of depression, migraines, and chronic back pain. Recent research

suggests it may also improve heart disease risk factors as much as other exercise.
