January
2018
At our recent volunteer appreciation I had the privilege to announce the prestigious volunteer of the year award. Before this award presentation I shed some light on the importance of all the volunteers at the Center.
It is a long time known fact that in any volunteer organization 10% of the people do 90 % of the work. I would submit that at our Center it is closer to 5% - 95%. The Center would and could not exist if it weren’t for all the faithful and dedicated volunteers. I asked all the volunteers to stand and look around and what they were seeing is the actual lifeblood of the Center.
If the volunteers are the lifeblood of the center the volunteers of the month have to be the “beating hearts” in the middle of it all. The list of the volunteers of the month for 2017 were:
Lonnie Waters Marie Passmore Janet Walker Pat Rosenthal/Judy Richards Dianne Butler Cyndi Potenziani
Earl Bunn Vinnie Germann Doreen Cesa
The volunteer of the month committee selects one of these monthly nominees as volunteer of the year. I am not on the committee but looking at the list I see it would be such a difficult task to make this selection. When the decision was revealed to me who the awardee was I can personally attest to all the time and hard work he does for the Center.
Drum Rollllllllllll! Vinnie Germann
Vinnie is so deserving of this honor. Through the years he has been a faithful asset to the center. When I was serving as president he was always there to lend a hand where needed. Whether it was working on the bocce ball court, working on the sign in front, planning and coordinating the New Year’s celebrations and on and on and on. Space does not allow the list of things Vinnie does being at the center on a daily basis.
So of all the beating hearts it is hard to argue that any beat any stronger than this one. Congratulations Vinnie!! -Jay Koeller

Happy New Year everybody. May we all have a healthy, happy and fun loving New Year. May we be blessed with good times, good friends and great weather.
I’m Dorene Cesa and have been chosen to be your President this year. I have been a member since we opened in 2009 serving as Secretary for one year and director for the last few years. I started a group call “We just want to have fun” - singles only about five years ago. We have done some fun things such as horseback riding, kayaking, paddleboard cruise, gambling ship and some great museums like the Navy Seal Museum. Besides volunteering at the center, I am involved with the most wonderful group called HONOR FLIGHT. If you are looking to volunteer at the center, we can always use your help...just stop at the front desk and fill out a volunteer application.
The Wickham Park Senior Center is exactly what the name implies. It is a place where seniors (50 and older) participate in their favorite activities with peers that share the same interest. Starting January 1st, our annual dues will increase to $20 per year. This is the first increase since we opened in 2009. -Dorene Cesa
