Dear Camp Wapsie Community,

We’d like to welcome you to YMCA Camp Wapsie. Camp Wapsie is the resident camp facility of the Cedar Rapids YMCA and accredited by the American Camp Association. With our affiliation of two of the strongest camping organizations, we are proud of the programs and opportunities Wapsie provides to our campers not only through overnight and day camps, but also through family programs, season camps, and year-round retreats. We strive to help campers grow and live our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility while living and learning in our natural environment. Our devoted staff spend over a week of training on site. Many also grew up at camp and graduated our leadership program with goals of helping pass on the Wapsie experience to future campers.

Wapsie is proud to carry on our traditional programs and excited to announce new features for summer 2020. Be sure to check out the new Outdoor Leadership Development program that will combine learning and hands-on experience through a week-long trip to help kids grow their outdoor skills and leadership potential. We have a plan in place to continue growing the variety of morning activities by introducing STEAM based opportunities as well as providing more exposure to the outdoors. We have upgraded some of our facilities by adding an improved and expanded outdoor cooking area at the Village, a second Gaga pit for kids to play, and this past year we purchased 11 acres that will allow us to expand trails and natural areas which may host future development for camp. Adjoining camp is a new county nature preserve that will provide additional natural areas to explore and learn. All these pieces will better help Wapsie provide meaningful growth opportunities for our campers. We hope you will join us and become part of the growing group that calls Wapsie a second home.

Thanks for checking out YMCA Camp Wapsie. Please visit campwapsie.org to register or learn even more about our programs and facilities. While we enjoy much of the digital technology

out there, we strive to help campers unplug, and connect to each other and to nature. As staff we are happy to do so with you to answer questions, or schedule a tour as well, so give us a call if we can help.

In the Spirit of Camping,

Paul Denowski Jeff DickmannExecutive Director Summer Camp Director

MAKING CAMP AFFORDABLE FOR EVERYONECamp Wapsie understands that different families have different abilities to pay, so we offer a voluntary three-tier pricing system to better accommodate all financial needs. When registering please select the tier that is most suitable for your family. This allows Camp Wapsie to continue to improve the quality of each camper’s experience.

Tier A most accurately reflects the true cost of camp.

Tier B is our subsidized rate for families that find the full cost a bit out of their budget.

Tier C is further reduced for those families that find themselves in greater need this year. This rate is subsidized by the work of volunteers, fundraising, and sustaining contributions.

Our tiered pricing system is completely confidential and in no way influences the experience your child has. Simply pick the price that matches the needs of your family; no proof of income is required. If you believe you will be applying for further financial assistance, please select Tier C.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCEYMCA Camp Wapsie and the YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area are committed to providing quality programs to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. The Y is for Youth Development.

Financial Assistance is subsidized by the YMCA Annual Support Campaign. Families can contribute to the campaign or get an application to request assistance by visiting campwapsie.org or calling 319.435.2577.
