Center Supervisor's MessageOn June 23, the Milwaukie Center is hosting the Golden Anniversary Celebration. This is a ceremony honoring a couple’s 50 plus years together.

This past April we had our annual Volunteer Recognition. During this ceremony we took special

time out to honor those partners who volunteer together.

It is wonderful to observe how the Milwaukie Center is not only a resource for individuals, but also is often a place for couples to come and enrich both their lives and their relationships. Some couples may participate together while other times they may have completely different roles here.

Either way, I have witnessed over the years how these couples have enriched the Center with their talents while simultaneously benefitting themselves. This June, I would like to welcome any new couples who would like to participate here while thanking all those who currently do.Thank you, Marty Hanley, Center SupervisorMilwaukie Center’s Mission:

To be a link to resources for older adults and their families and a place for the community to gather, grow and contribute. Milwaukie Center, a division of North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District, is a multi-purpose community center operated as a focal point for recreation, learning and senior services.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!It’s that time of year to recognize our Dads. Think about where we would be without them! The same goes for the Milwaukie Center. We would NOT be here if it weren’t for our fabulous volunteers. Without each and every one of them, we would not be able to keep the Center running on a day-to-day basis. It’s easy to become one of our volunteers by contacting Judith Kallio (503) 794-8034. Judith is the Milwaukie Center Volunteer Coordinator and will be happy to assist you through the volunteer process.

The Annual Campaign is the Friends biggest fundraiser that helps support programs and services at the Milwaukie Center. This month (the end of our fiscal year) the Friends will be giving checks to departments of the Milwaukie Center totaling over $22,000. This is in addition to over $20,000 spent to print and mail the Centerpoint newsletter, provide scholarship funds for classes, provide emergency funds for those in need and the support of many other programs.

It is not too late to have your gift count for this year AND matched by Bob and Charlee Moore. Thank you to everyone who has already sent in their gift and helped support the wonderful programs and services at the Milwaukie Center.

You can create your own legacy by naming the Friends of the Milwaukie Center as a beneficiary in your will, living trust, life insurance policy or retirement plan, or by establishing a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust. You can also explore the advantage of charitable giving and at the same time get a tax deduction and possibly income.

All bequests are added to the endowment fund of your choice. The money in these funds is never spent; the income and earnings from the funds support the various programs and services the funds are dedicated to. For example: the interest, dividends and earnings from the nutrition fund are given to that department to help with Meals-On-Wheels and operating costs. The income from the Fran Whitehill Rose Garden fund helps pay for maintenance and supplies to take care of the Sara Hite Memorial Rose Garden.

Call (503) 653-8100 to ask how you can include the Milwaukie Center in your estate planning and/or make a donation today using the form on this page.
