Friedrich HundertwasserFriedrich Hundertwasser was born in 1928 in Vienna.He died in 2000 on his way from New Zealand to Europe onboard the Queen Elizabeth 2.Hundertwasser was a Painter, architect, ecologist and visionary.

Hundertwasser once said, Beauty is Panacea. Which means a remedy for all diseases, evils, or difficulties.

What do you think he meant by that?

Look at this painting.What is the first thing you notice?

Hundertwasser liked Dark Bright colours. What are your favourite colours?

ShapeHundertwasser noted that there are no straight lines in nature andmany of his paintings depicted spirals which he saw everywhere.

List 3 things in nature which have spirals. There is a reward point for anybody who can think of a spiral on the body!

Shape in trees.ResearchHundertwasser often depictedtrees like lollipops.

Look at each image of trees. What shapes are they? Use each box on yourworksheet to record your ideas in a Hundertwasser style.

Analyse and record.

DevelopmentLook at your designs. Select one to develop into a larger painting.On A4 paper use a black wax crayon to draw your tree designs. Add fields and sky.

Consider the pattern in the trees and take risks when adding patterns.

Further DevelopmentUse watercolours to paint your picture. You could use bright darkcolours like Hundertwasser or use your favourite colours.

Success Criteria Level 4 = Little thought to shapes used. No patternused in background poor paint control.

Level 5 = Shapes developed. Some consideration to pattern.

Level 6= Shapes developed further. Consideration to pattern on trees and developed background. Carefully painted

Level 7= Shape and composition well thought out. Pattern used in all areas. Colours used and painted well.
