The Friday Social
Optimise likeability on you Facebook page… Make sure to mention your
page to customers! You can also ‘like’ similar or local companies in order
to target your presence at similar groups.
• Aim posts at the right demographic: You can check what they are by
going to insights and clicking on likes, this will produce a chart like the
one below; this can help with making your posts more attractive to your audience.
• Talk to your customers rather than at them: make your posts interactive by asking
questions, and if you have any positive or negative comments make sure you reply!
• And finally...give it a personality! Create a loyal, interactive community rather than an
information page. This is what keeps people coming back after the ‘like’.

Rock your timeline...What do your fans want to see?
• A welcoming cover photo: Your cover photo is like a welcome screen, it is
the first thing a passer-by will see. A clear image of your pub and/or logo
should do the trick, what would you want your first impression to be?
• The low-down: Most of the people visiting your page will probably be your
customers, but some may just simply be looking up information on your pub to see what
it’s like, what would you want them to know? Opening times, what it looks like, your
menu, up coming events, offers/ discounts etc.
• Interactive posts: Ask your customers for answers or advice on your products/

Facebook… Keeping it up Having trouble up-keeping your page? Not sure what to post about to keep
your fans engaged? Don’t have the time?
Why not allocate a trusted employee to help you out, there may be someone
who is very good with social media and would find enjoyment in having the responsibility to
update their pubs page.
How to give someone editing access without giving up your account details:
1. At the top of your Page, click Edit Page
2. Select Admin Roles
3. Type the names of other people you'd like to add in the open field
4. Click ‘Content Creator’ below the name to choose the type of admin role you want to assign
5. Click Save Changes
Remember… you can always change admin roles or delete them using the same process.
The Friday Social - How to… Claim your place.
Facebook Places Pages are for businesses that have a physical location.
They have a small difference to other business pages, which is that
they use the 'check-in' concept.
Facebook allows customers to 'check-in' to tell their friends that they are at
particular venue! This is a great tool for social media marketing as your
customers are spreading the word about your venue through word of mouth!
A places page may exist for your business, even if you or someone else from your
company didn't create it. This is because when someone checks into a place that
The Friday Social - Email Mania!
Ever taken a day off and come back to hundreds of emails? Ever had to go back to an
email for reference and spent half an hour trying to find it because it got lost amongst
those hundreds of emails? Here are a few simple tips…
• Sort messages quickly
• Group similar messages into folders
• Create search folders to find messages fast
• Route mail efficiently using mailbox rules
• Reduce unwanted email with junk filters
• Assign a colour category
• Flag for follow up
Even better… Let’s get a load off and give that person a call instead; it’s sometimes
more efficient and will also minimise how much email you receive!
The Friday Social - Purpose of your Facebook page
While you of course want to inform people about your pub to
encourage interaction and commerce, you must also do this in a way
that is entertaining, if you are to really succeed and achieve
‘talkability’. If you consider the 4 functions below, it will help shape your social
media strategy and give people what they actually want. How are you using social
media to bring people together and foster the sense of community we desire?
Social Media
The Friday Social - News feed optimisation...
So you’re posting on you’re wall & keeping it alive with photos
and updates… Great! But how do you make sure that your fans
take interest in what you say!?
Tag real people in photos you post: Their friends will see those
photos, and it will drive a new
audience to your page.
Use the % Feedback metric in
Facebook Insights to see which status
updates generate the highest %.
Replicate that type of content, as
these are the kind of posts with the
highest engagement and value for
news feed optimisation!
The Friday Social - What’s new in social media!?
> Facebook Gifts: A new app allowing users to buy and
send real gifts to friends using Facebook :O
> Facebook has finally introduced a long awaited “share” button to its
mobile site. The feature, which shows up on newsfeed posts alongside
“like” and “comment” buttons allowing you to share others posts and
photos on your own wall is now available to use on your mobile!
<—–WHATTT!? Flexible Smart phones may
be here sooner than you think!
The Friday Social - Perfect Posts
Few Facebook ‘post’ features you may not be using…
Pin a Post… The new Timeline format allows you to feature a post for seven
days, “pinning” it as the top item on your timeline. Consider pinning a contest, question of
the week, photo of the week etc. to the top!
Highlight and Hide Posts...Using the feature to highlight/ ‘star’ good posts, and hide less
important posts, gives your page a cohesive look and impactful visual. Be sure to highlight
major company events and posts that received a lot of comments or likes!
And for those really important posts...Add timeline events!
Pick five major events (including when your company was founded) to add to your timeline
using the “Milestone” feature. This will give your Page a good history for fans to view, and
present your brand as a story. Consider adding photos of old logos, staff pictures, or awards
received that will help tell the story of your business using visual elements.
The Friday Social - Photos: A different angle
A few different ways you can use photos on Facebook:
> Tag real people in photos you post. Their friends will see those
photos, and it will drive a new audience to your page.
> Post a mystery photo. In the comments, ask people to guess the
mystery person, the secret object, or the location.
> Host a caption contest. Get people to write the best caption for your photo.
> Share pictures from a local event
> Compare two of your products and prompt your
community to add their thoughts and comments
The Friday Social - Use your Apps.
Facebook Timeline has a great feature called ‘Apps’. These are
the tabs you can see displayed on your page underneath your
cover photo. Don’t waste away this great feature! Use them to create direct links
to your website, Christmas bookings, Trip Advisor, Events, and much more! Have
a play around with your page and make it an enjoyable and easy experience for
your fans. Not too sure how to use Apps yet? Look out for more tips & advice to
come soon!
The Friday Social - Make your page ‘appy’
How do I add/ delete/ edit apps on my Facebook page?
By going on ‘edit page’ in the top right-hand corner of
your page and then clicking on ‘update info’ you will be
taken to a page with the following on the left-hand side.
If you then click on ‘apps’, you can easily edit, update and
delete your apps from this page.
To choose which apps appear on your profile from the
same page, click the "Edit settings" and there you can
select the visibility of the application in your profile.
Finally to select which applications will emerge as News
on your profile you must click "Change settings" and then
change as applicable.
The Friday Social - ’Tis the season we get busy
Christmas, New Years, so many busy nights and parties… unless you’re a
Facebook Junkie, you may forget or simply not have time to post on your
business page during this jolly season. This could be a potential downfall
as many may be looking to your page to check what is happening at their
local that night.
So… how can we ensure that our fans are kept updated?
Why not… schedule a few posts to let people know you have an event
going on so that it pops up on their news feed as they check their
Facebook whilst deciding where to go for a few festive drinks!
The party just started… You’re missing out!The party just started… You’re missing out!The party just started… You’re missing out!The party just started… You’re missing out!
The Friday Social - What makes you so special…
The most common thing we hear at this time of year is… “ New
Year, New me!” It’s the time for fresh starts and new beginnings:
So… Let’s get back to basics and rediscover what makes your pub
different, what is most loved about it and what keeps the
customers coming back.
Now take a seat back into a customers laptop chair and view
your Social platforms from another perspective. Does your
Facebook page reflect all that your pub is about? Or does it look
like any ordinary pub fan page? In the now era your new
customers are likely to view your Facebook page before your
building so make it count!

Allow Fan Posting to the Wall Facebook pages that allow people to post on their wall tend to grow the
community-feel much faster than no-posting-allowed pages.
Of course, you have to stay on top of spam and overly promotional posts, but giving your
fans a chance to contribute is a great way to grow your page!
And most importantly, If you are allowing customers to post on your wall, ensure to
respond as soon as you can… whether it be a complaint and a nice comment.

about you! Make sure you’re involved.
How can your pub create a presence online…?
> The craze right now is letting everyone know where you are and what you’re
doing. When a customer visits your pub they check in which is then visible to
many more other potential customers!
> Following what is said about your pub and joining in the discussion is a great
new way of communicating with your customers, whether it’s replying to
negative feedback or applauding positive feedback!
