I am very happy to be starting as the new minister at Knox United in Ayr. I feel that God has truly called me to be here, and I look forward to leading you in worship and getting to know you all in the weeks ahead. A little bit of background on me: I am currently a student minister and a candidate for ordination; I’m about one third through my training at Atlantic School of Theology and I will be going to Halifax in the summers to take more courses, as well as taking courses on line throughout the year. Although I am still a student, leading worship is not new for me. I graduated from Five Oaks as a Licenced Lay Worship Leader, and I have taught many courses on Biblical Storytelling at Tyndale and Emmanuel Bible colleges. God has blessed me with the gift of storytelling, which has taken me all over the world as a professional storyteller. I also have a background in Theatre and Drama, and taught Dramatic Arts in schools for the last 20 years. I live in Stratford, and I am married to Blair who works as an artist at the Stratford Festival, as well as loving to sing in choirs; we have one 15-year-old son, Gavin, aged 15, who plays piano every Sunday for Salvation Army. Music is a big part of our lives. I am excited to be on this new journey into full time ministry. I believe that God has given us all different gifts and that we are called to use our gifts as a community. As a church, I believe we need to reflect God’s love for all people, build our relationships with Christ, and provide support and love for one another. I am passionate about mission and outreach, I celebrate the enthusiasm and vitality of children and young people, and I like to sing, laugh and dance in the Spirit in multi generational worship. Please come and meet me at Knox. My office hours are every Tuesday and Wednesday 10.00-4.00, but I am happy to meet outside those hours any time – just call my cell 519 703 1954. Peace and Blessings, Gail Fricker. From the Student Minister’s Desk

Seniors’ Time Out Our fall luncheon will be take place on Monday, September 26th at 12:00 P.M. Come out and bring a friend. All are welcome.

The Sunday School teachers are excited to welcome back all kids (grade 8 and under) who are interested in taking part in our exciting Sunday School program. Our program consists of bible lessons designed for children. We try to keep the lesson as engaging as possible with crafts, activities and sometimes even a snack! For those who have not participated in past years, the Sunday School room is the room above the kitchen. This Sunday (September 11 th) will be the first day of Sunday School, however Sunday School runs on a “drop in” basis so if you know someone interested who isn’t able to attend church each Sunday it’s not a problem, we welcome everyone to participate as often as they’re able to.

Volunteers Needed: Knox will be offering a program on P.D. days starting September 23rd for Children aged 7-10. We are looking for Volunteers to help with this outreach program. If you are able to volunteer for the day or even for an hour or two please speak to Gail Fricker. More details on this exciting outreach to come in the coming weeks.

The Congregational Life Committee will be serving Hot Dogs, salad and ice-cream sundaes following service this Sunday Sept 11th. Please join us!

Healthy Living Begins with You

Last fall, many at Knox began a journey towards healthier living by studying the Daniel Plan and putting into practice many of its suggestions. As we learned, our bodies are a gift from God and a temple for the Holy Spirit. In order to keep moving along this path to a stronger body, an evening with lifestyle coach, author and motivational speaker, Christine Gingerich, has been planned for October 4th. Although some of you may have already heard her speak on her passion The Optimal You, Christine has several different and informative presentations which are important for all to hear.

We would like you all to be involved:

Keep the event in your prayers that it will reach all who need to hear her message. Take action by planning to attend and by inviting your spouse, your friends and your

neighbours. Help out that night. To find out more, come to a brief planning meeting immediately

following worship on September 11th in the library lounge. Watch for the flyer in the next Friday File

Donna regular office hours are: Tuesday - Friday (9:00am - 12:00pm)

The Congregational Life Committee is planning to do some canning to sell at the Cookie Walk and are looking for donations of tomatoes, red and green peppers, onions and some jars. If you are able to donation, please speak to Pat Elliott, Anne Lovett-Hutchinson, Linda Roberts, Karen Ehnes, Janet Furlong, Heather Smith, Marilyn Scott or Shirley Mitchell. Thanks!

Your Spiri tual Corner “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, prov-en character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:1-5)

Betty Butcher recently gave an inspiring reflection on the subject of hope. She shared many exam-ples of hope through Jesus Christ. No matter what we are going through in our lives today, no matter what our world looks like today, the only solid hope we have is in Christ. By faith we can have peace and strength to persevere through all of life’s challenges.

Thanks be to God for His assurance, hope and protection. Give Him all glory, honour and praise. Amen.

The Upper Room Daily Devotionals for Sept. and Oct. are available in the Communication Nook , located at the bottom of the stairs leading to the Sanctuary.

Please take one. Reading the Daily Devotional is a great way to start or end your day. It provides a time of quiet and reflection with God.

WHY HANDBELLS?

A handbell program in your church offers numerous benefits for your congregation.

A handbell choir adds a unique and glorious musical element to worship

Handbells provide a great opportunity for inter-generational activity

A handbell program creates opportunities for lay members to contribute to worship and participate with the worship team

Handbells are accessible to all levels of musicians – even those with no prior musical experience

Handbells can be used effectively in both contemporary and traditional worship

A handbell program provides a fun way to work together and share fellowship

Handbells provide additional opportunies for teaching the elements of music in a church environment

A handbell program can be a traveling music ministry to other congregations and venues, also providing the opportunity to practice evangelism without words

Handbells can easily be combined with other music ministries at your church – handbells with choir, other instruments, or with youth to provide a unique way to present favorite bible stories and lessons during worship

From the Handbell Musicians of America

September is Canned Soups and Stews Month!

These often forgotten items are a necessity in every home. Please remember those less fortunate than you in your weekly shopping.

Thank you for your on-going support of the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank.

Knox generously donates the Fellowship Hall for the Food Bank to provide service to Ayr and North Dumfries residents once every two weeks.
