Under current Queensland laws any bond which has not been claimed for more than seven years may be reinvested into affordable housing for some of Queenslandrsquos most vulnerable people

Sunshine Coast Council has new
logoA new broom sweeps clean is the old saying and with that in mind the Sunshine Coast Council has re-leased its five year Corporate Plan
The corporate plan will allow the council to travel in a new direction Part of that plan is to make the Sun-shine Coast the most sustainable region in Australia
The new corporate image is a re-flection of that proactive approach
As of January 1st 2014 as a result of the Noosa Council going its own way the Sunshine Coast is now a new entity and as a result council-lors voted for a new image and as a result a new corporate logo was required
Talking about the new logo the Mayor Mark Jamieson said ldquoIt captures the modern and creative organisation that is the Sunshine Coast Council ndash with the colours representing the dimensions of our region commercial recreational and lifestylerdquo
The cost to council of the logo was $80000 and a further $250000 will be required to implement it
It will be used on council vehicles buildings web site and correspon-dence
Mayor Jamieson continued ldquoThe design is a collaborative effort by council staff and local company Ems Creative and includes input from employees and the wider Sunshine Coast communityrdquo

Apart from that the registration fee had increases markedly A check with the correct registration company revealed that this renewal notice was a scam There have been a number received around the Sun-shine Coast

Make FridayFatality Free
Friday 23rd May is officially ldquoFatality Free Fridayrdquo throughout Autra-lia This is the seventh year of this campaign
The campaign should be more than just a single day In a perfect world every day shuld be fatality free throughout Australia and if ev-eryone really tried it could be This comes at a time in Maleny when we have to think about our own with the recent death on Stanley River Road Maleny of the passenger in a car which was cut in half as a result of colliding with a power pole This accident is one that just should not have happened with reason-able care and is the type of accident that should be able to be eliminat-ed reasonable easily if individuals act responsibly
Another tragic fatal accident involved a Maleny driver who has recently received a 30-month suspended sentence for a moment of inattention that killed Taiwanese fruit-picker Chen-Chuan Yang 25 and severely injured Kwan-Jun Wu 30 on July 7 2012
At the time she told police she was looking at Google maps and as a result Ms Wu or Mr Yang whilst she was driving on Beerburrum Rd Elimbah on July 7th 2012
Again this is another type of acci-dent that could be easily eliminated with personal responsibility
Fatal and traffic accidents and acci-dents involving serious injury have a profound effect on many commu-nity members and it is an important community responsibility that we reduce those effects

Truthful Jones Tells us that his uncle from Ireland came to visit him not long ago and was driv-ing down the Conondale Range Unbeknown to him an English man was driving in the opposite direc-tion Both were driving to fast for the conditions and they collided on a sharp bend in the road
To the amazement of both they are unscathed though their cars are both destroyed In celebration of their luck both agree to put aside their dislike for the other from that moment on At this point Truth-fulrsquos Uncle goes to the boot of his crashed car and fetches a 12 year old bottle of Jameson whiskey
He hands the bottle to the English man whom exclaimsrsquorsquo may the English and the Irish live together forever in peace and harmonyrsquorsquo
The English man then tips the bottle and lashes half of it down Still flabbergasted over the whole thing he goes to hand the bottle to the Irish man whom replies lsquorsquo no thanks Irsquoll just wait till the Coppers get herersquorsquo

After that I was in a state of shock Thinking that my sister wasnt going to make it But she did My uncle left what did he care about his wife just died and my sister was fighting for her life Her life of barely a year I hate that he didnt stay with me The nurses were pissed off at him for leaving because he had to sign things that were important he never came back so I was forced to sign them I really didnt even know what I was doing with everything going on I never left my sisters room I didnt eat sleep bathe just nothing I was to concerned about her I talked to her all the time I could see her little eyes moving in her eye sockets and the nurses told me that was a good signI prayed even harder But it wasnt hard enough I was sitting there right beside her when she started having a seizure It was the scariest thing I had ever seen in my whole life I didnt know what to do I started screaming for the nurses and the doctors They came in and stabilized herI was in a state of just numbness this just made me feel like the worst person ever I didnt know what I was going to do The doctor came in and told me in the most nicest way ever and told me that my sister if she ever woke up she wouldnt be normal That it might just be best if we took her off of
everything I never in my dreams ever thought someone would ever even ask me to take someone off of something that was saving their life He left and let me think things overI told him an hour later that I wanted him to do it I didnt want my little sister to suffer anymore But I had him take everything off of her the feeding tube respirator IVs After he took everything off of her he told me she wouldnt last for another five minutes He left me and my sister alone in the room for her last breaths I held her all the way until her last breathIt was the worst thing I have every had to do in my whole life I felt her last breath and her last heart beat I didnt even cry I felt that if she felt me cry she would know I was devastated that I was weak I held everything in I didnt want her to know that I kissed her goodbye and I told her that I loved her I sat with her for thirty minutes If anyone tried coming in I told them to please leaveI know that was stupid I just wanted to be with my sister alone I sat there looking at her body Just wishing it was all a dream I told her goodbye for the last time thirty minutes later and I walked out the door and sat on the ground bawling my eyes out
I didnt want my sister to be dead I didnt believe she was gone I didnt want her to be gone They sent a counsellor to sit with me Talk to me and pray with me But why did I have to pray when she was already goneI dont know maybe they thought it would make me feel better It didnt I was with my sister from the time she was born It was like I had just lost my own child even though she was my sister People tell me that I have no reason to feel that But I was the one who raised her The one her taught her how to walk how to talk only if it was just a few words I was the one who played with her stayed up with held her when she was cryingI remember when she called me mama I guess that isnt a reason to think that I had lost a childBut I dont care what people think she was like a child to meTo this day it feels like its my fault that she died Because I told the doctors to take her off the machines Its just a horrible feeling I have deep inside of me I had to say goodbye to a little girl that was so important to me I miss her still to this day I wish she didnt have to go but she did And I miss her so so so so so much

The Federal budget has now been handed down and it is plain for us all to see
I do not disbelieve that the long term financial situation for Aus-tralia will be difficult to keep in check and most of the geese that laid out golden eggs in the past have now been sold off Mostly they are now earning vast profits but unfortunately those profits are not going into the Federag Government coffers
State and Federal Government politicians continue to argue over the dishing up of the tax dollars collected from Australian citizens
Buck passing is rife between the various levels of government
Now is an ideal time o have a determined discussin about the need for three levels of govern-ment Not only would it reduce the amount of taxpayers money being spent on bureaucracy it would also stop a lot of the buck passing thus ensuring that Austra-lian citizens receive the best level of service for their dollar spent
Today there is not the number of assets that need overseeing so surely the level and number of bureaucrats that we have previously needed are not now required
It can be said that State Govern-ments and Federal government functions overlap and thus cause duplication
Les us all get real and bring Aus-tralian governments up to date and get rid of any unnecessary bureaucrats

A matter of common sense and securityState Member for Nicklin Mr Peter Wellington introduced a private mem-bers bill to parliament require people to in the appropriate circumstances to remove any face covering so that person could be identified
This followed a decision by a New South Wales court to dismiss charges against a woman on the grounds of insufficient identification because she refused to remove her burqa when required by a police officer
Mr Wellington explained that this bill had nothing to do with religion or discrimination it was simply a matter of not mocking the Australian legal system
He did not propose that all head covering should be removed only that that prohibited means of identification The Quran has no requirement that women cover their faces with a veil or cover their bodies with the full-body burqua or chador So to intimate that it is against the womanrsquos religion is incorrect
This bill was defeated in the Queensland Parliament by the government with the support of the labor opposition nd the burqa remains
Hinterlandgrapevine OnlineSome answers to questions put to Mr Mal Brough Fed Member for Fisher
The 2014 -15 Federal budget has been seen by many as one of the hardest budgets in a couple of de-cades As a result the following ques-tions on Education in Queensland were put to Federal Member for Fisher Mr Mal Brough to justify any fears that many may have about the effects on everyday Queenslanders The answers are printed unedited - you take what you want
1 Are you increasing spending to Queensland schools
Yes The Coalition Government is not only keeping but is exceeding its promise by investing an additional $1151 billion in Queensland schools over the forward estimates and over what the previous Labor government would have provided Labor failed to reach a school funding agreement with Queensland and ripped $12 billion out of school funding in the August 2013 economic update
This is more funding than ever before and takes Commonwealth invest-ment in schooling over the forward estimates to a record high This investment provides funding certain-ty for all schools
2 Are Queensland schools receiving the same funding under this government as they would have under Labor
Queensland schools will be signifi-cantly better off under this govern-ment than they were under Labor In this Budget we have invested a total of $1427 billion over the forward estimates including an additional $1151 billion beyond what the pre-vious Labor government would have invested
The government has honoured its election commitment to match the first four years of the previous govern-mentrsquos ldquoGonskirdquo funding model dollar for dollar for all states with existing agreements and we have provided funding for four years under the ldquoGon-skirdquo model for the three jurisdictions that did not sign an agreement with
the previous government
We have never said we would match years 5 and 6 of Gonski and the previ-ous government never showed how they would pay for years 5 or 6
3 How is the Government going to improve student outcomes in Queensland
It is clear that simply providing more funding does not necessarily equate to better outcomes The latest Pro-gramme for International Student As-sessment shows Australian academic standards slipping despite a 44 per cent increase in education funding over the past decade
The Government believes that achieving improved educational outcomes is not just about funding and is focused on providing policy certainty for schools with a re-newed focus on what students learn through a robust national curriculum improved quality of teaching and a greater say for teachers principals parents and the community about how their school is run
The Commonwealth government is very encouraged by the Indepen-dent Public Schools program of the Queensland State Government and we are providing commonwealth money to augment this great pro-gramme
These are the education policy directions that the Government is pursuing and which are set out in The Coalitionrsquos Policy for Schools Stu-dents First available at httpwwwliberalorgauour-policies
4 You said that you would deliver funding certainty for Queensland schools Have you done so
Yes The Government has been clear in its commitment to needs-based funding and is keeping its promise by honouring funding amounts for all states and sectors for 2014 to 2017 including Queensland
In fact for the next four years the
Government has invested an addi-tional $794392 million to ensure that schools in Queensland donrsquot miss out on the new funding arrangements as they would have under the previous government
Four-year funding agreements align with the budget planning cycle of the forward estimates period and have long been the standard for Commonwealth funding arrange-ments including schools funding Schools and education authorities understand these arrangements
5 What will happen beyond the four year funding agreement How much will Queensland get
The Government has been clear in its commitment to funding and is hon-ouring funding amounts for all states and sectors for 2014 to 2017 Four-year funding agreements align with the budget planning cycle of the forward estimates period and have long been the standard for Com-monwealth funding arrangements including schools funding
The Government will still ensure schools have funding certainty be-yond 2017 and needs-based funding will be preserved
In 2017-18 Queensland will receive $4048m ndash an increase of 75 on recurrent funding for schools on the previous financial year
Beyond 2017 funding to Queensland will increase by CPI plus enrolment growth Choosing indexation con-sistent with the rest of government is fiscally responsible This choice of a consistent rate of indexation is also appropriate given the uncertainty around indexation identified in the previous Governmentrsquos approach that led to the inclusion of a 2015 review of the indexation rates in the National Education Reform Agreement
Everyone has to play their part in bringing the budget back into sur-plus We canrsquot allow some service provision costs to grow unchecked

Using bright colours can be challenging to work with The trick is to use the right proportion of bright colours in combination with whites and neutrals so that your scheme is easy to live with Bright highly saturated colours can be very intense when used in large areas Use them sparingly to add highlights or a pop of colours to your living areas Integrating bright colours into your scheme can be as simple as painting the edge of a shelf a vivid red electric blue or citrus yellow and then picking up that accent in accessories
Pick one colour out to be your dominant shade and use your other brights in smaller pieces Work them back with natural textiles shades of white or neutral colours A crisp white is also perfect to balance bold colours or try using textured white accessories such as rugs and throws Neutrals or natural tones will complement these brights beautifully Choose from New Look Rumour Peacetime Loft or Balzac on your walls
Avoid going overboard in certain areas of the house While bedrooms can handle more colour make sure that you dont go over the top in areas such as kitchens and bathrooms Too much bright colour in the bathroom will make it impossible to relax while an open plan kitchen dressed entirely in brights might tie you in to a strong colour scheme for the next 20 years Stick to using one or two bright colours to punctuate a muted scheme
Paint Place is making painting easy with a new range of project kits perfect for your weekend DIY projects We can tint our low odour New Look range to any colour you like Together with the Paint Place Room Accessories Kit you can have your room project done and dusted in a day

Sunshine Coast Council proposes law changes in respect to cats
Sunshine Coast Council is proposing a change to its local laws in relation to the ownership of cats
The council opted to be a ldquodeclared councilrdquo keeping the registration of cats rule for a year while it discussed the option following a ruling by the State Government in September 2013 that dropped the pending intro-duction of cat registration
The Council is hoping to bring cat owners into line with dog owners with similar registration fees
It is expected that cat owners who have their cats micro-chipped and de-sexed will have to pay an annual registration fee of $1290 or a proposed fee of $2780 registration fee for a cat that is only desexed
It is a requirement under the Animal Management Act 2008 to microchip your cat dog before it reaches 12 weeks of age The RSPCA would prefer a law which made desexing of cats compulsory
The RSPCA spokesperson said the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge at Sippy Creek overflowing with unwanted cats and kittens with presently there being about 90 unwanted cats and kittens
If the changes are approved at the next council meeting the cost of reg-istering a desexed cat will stay the same at $2780 Pensioner discounts will apply to these fees
But it will jump from $33 to $6590 for non-desexed cats owned by accred-ited associations and up from $69 to $12460 for other ownersThe cat registration policy is expected to raise $360294 in revenue for the council
The council is also proposing to ensure the local law that dogs will be allowed to sit with their owners at outside dining areas

Maleny RFB received a new Waeco portable fridge and TAC B com-mand kit
Queensland Fire Service Commis-sioner Lee Johnson and Assistant Commissioner For Rural Operations Neil Gallant attended along with staff from area office and members from the Maleny RFB to receive the equipment
Local RFB member Daniel Sand-man said ldquoThe fridge will come In handy in keeping water chilled and the command kit will be of excellent use in keeping track of personnel and fire trucks on the fire ground
The Incident Command System (ICS) is a Double Sided Whiteboard system designed to be hung from a truck side gutter rail or simply a hook as required
This makes command and control at the scene of a fire much easi-er as it allows a system to record information about locations of assets and tasks being performed in a manner that is obvious to all involved

Have your say on motorcycle road rule changes
Road users can now have their say on possible road rule changes to reduce traffic congestion and im-prove safety affecting motorcycle riders
Member for Glass House Andrew Powell MP said the Motorcycle Discussion Paper will be live on the ldquoGet Involvedrdquo website for six weeks as part of the Queensland Governmentrsquos promise to revitalise front line services and I encourage all road users to give their feedback about potential road rule changesrdquo
Easing congestion on our roads and making it easier for motorcyclists to ride are the main purposes behind a new discussion paper
There are three main points of discussion as part of the paper in-cluding lane filtering rules on how a rider sits on a bike and helmet standards
Lane filtering is when riders move at low speeds between vehicles that are stopped or moving slowly and is already practiced by some motorcycle riders
The rules around this practice are not clear however and if it is done safely it could help to ease traffic congestion for all road users
Currently the legislation dictates where riders must have their hands and feet and how they must sitrdquo Mr Emerson said
While the intention of the rule was
originally to prevent reckless and dangerous behaviour it doesnrsquot take into account the everyday practicalities of riding a motorcycle
By broadening the rules it will mean a rider can remove their feet to reverse park or take their hands off the handle to adjust their visor and not be in breach of the law
Under the proposed changes any helmet approved under interna-tional standards that meets the same protection as Australian stan-dards will be allowed
All road users are encouraged to have their say on these changes by filling out the online survey at httpwwwgetinvolvedqldgovauBirth certificates show

Maleny RFB receives grant from Energex
On May 14th 2014 at the Bli Bli RFB HQ the Maleny RFB was one of a number of local RFB units that received a presentation from Energex

On May 14th 2014 at the Bli Bli RFB HQ the Maleny RFB was one of a number of local RFB units that received a presentation from Energex

On May 14th 2014 at the Bli Bli RFB HQ the Maleny RFB was one of a number of local RFB units that received a presentation from Energex

Maleny RFB receives grant from Energex
On May 14th 2014 at the Bli Bli RFB HQ the Maleny RFB was one of a number of local RFB units that received a presentation from Energex
