independent projects. My thanks to all the students and their

whānau for their support and to Mr Driver and Mrs Storm for

guiding the process throughout the year.

opportunity to publicly recognise the success of our students in

areas that are central to our school. The final awards were

  • WRAPPING UP THE YEAR

    IN HIGH SCHOOL

    Kia ora whānau

    Dates, times, and events

    • In the last week of High School, Monday 14th December to

Thursday 17th December, we continue to start the day at 8:30

    a.m. with kaitiaki.

    • We are still finishing at 3 p.m. until our final day of the

year, when we finish at 12 noon on Thursday 17th December.

    • Craft week continues will have its last day on Wednesday

16th December, when all the craft work culminates in a sharing

    of student success.

    • Rā whakanui takes place in the morning of Thursday 17th

December and Class 8 and 9 attend this with their kaitiaki and

teachers. They will then pack-down High School and celebrate

the end of year with their kaitiaki.

Mr. Johnstone as acting Deputy Principal

As I am on Camp with Class 11 in the last week of High School,

Mr. Johnstone will be acting Deputy Principal for High School. I

am on Great Barrier and out of reach, so from Friday 11th

December at 5 p.m., all non-urgent matters, where a next day

reply is OK, please contact him via email:

[email protected]. All urgent matters must go

to Mr. Johnstone in person or via a phone call to Reception.

It has been a challenging year and I think that we as a school -

the teachers, all staff, students, and families - have met those

challenges with resolve and learned much about ourselves,

individually and relationally - learning we take with us going

    forward.

Have a lovely and restorative summer break with your loved

ones. See you all in 2021.

Caixia Tan, Class 9, competed in Hawkes Bay on the weekend

and was selected to go to Scotland next August 2021 to

represent NZ in the Under 18 World Teams Mounted Games

Championships. With covid she may not end up going but a lot

of work went into getting into the team, so fingers crossed they

    make it there.

Caixia devotes all her spare time to her ponies

    - at least 20 hours a week and more to

competing in this sport. She would be so

proud to represent NZ doing something she

    loves.

    Well done Caixia!

  • THE GIFT OF HOPE CHARITY TEAM

What another incredible year again for the

Gift Hope Charity Team. In this difficult year

we achieved so much, some had to be

sorted in lockdown over zoom! We did the

40 hour famine for World Vision, Sustain a

Ball for Women’s Refuge, PJ day for our

refugee Art programme, Daffodil Day for Cancer Society,

Canteen Café for Canteen. Platters for the art exhibition again

for our Refugee Art Programme. We have sponsored Swaita in

Northern India so she can attend school.

We’re finishing the year with Christmas Kindness and gifts for

the Salvation Army and Kids First which Tilly from Class 7

organised. Some of our amazing Class 7 students - Tilly,

Amberley and Sabina -spent Monday wrapping presents for

    Kids First.

Each year we give out the Gift of Hope award at senior prize

giving for outstanding service to the charity team. This year the

recipient was Hannah Mullany who was moved by Refugees to

showcase their smiles in her Art work, who volunteered at the

after school program at the resettlement centre, and has bold

plans to work with Refugees next year to get to know their

stories and express that in art and an exhibition raising funds

and awareness. We have no trophy for the Gift of Hope award

but thanks to the Bluebell Legacy Fund we gift $100 to

    Hannah’s chosen charity.

We also acknowledged Class 12 Students who looked

outwards this year through the Atawhai Award:

Grace Ryan - Sustain a Ball and Canteen Ambassador

Ruby Legg - Refugee After School Programme, Sustain a Ball

Anais Knight - Sustain a Ball

All students received a beautiful felted Gift of Hope brooch,

    thanks to Michelle Mullany.

"Akiaki i te tī o te tangata"

"Nurture the indescribable light in a person".

    - Stan Walker

We are sad to say Goodbye to Felix and Sabina. Thank you for

all your help this year - we know you will take the Gift of Hope

    to your new Schools.

And last but not least, Lochy who as been with us since almost

the beginning of the Charity team (when he could fit in the

Kindness box!) Lochy we will miss your heart, enthusiasm and

ability to get people to listen! Go well and keep changing the

    world.

Thank you Gift of Hope Charity Team for an amazing year.

will also have festive food for sale at the Christmas Carols
