Q: Will the cafeteria ever have those wonderful cinnamon rolls they use to have?A: Yes. They’re back on the menu. En-joy, and thanks for asking.Kelley Leonard, Nutrition & Dining

Q: How come Home Care was not included with this announcement in the Friday edition on 3/20? “You’re invited to a very special party with a very special guest list—the associates of Allen Hos-pital, College, Foundation and UnityPoint Clinics. It’s a party that lasts all yearwith gifts that keep on giving.”A: That was our mistake, and we meant no disrespect. We hope Home Care asso-ciates, like all of us aliated with Unity-Point Health – Waterloo, will take time to remember that everything we’re doing today, regardless of name, started with and grew from Allen Hospital. Jim Waterbury, Marketing &Communications

Q: Is there a way to track your tardies and absence/call ins?A: Yes. The department manager or stang (for the nursing floors) will track tardies and absence/call ins.Steve Sesterhenn, HR

Q: Is there an email or anyone that we can contact when our item is sold or if we would like to change something like price once it is posted on Allen Classifieds? In-stead of having the item posted for weeks after it has sold?A: You can use the classified ad submis-sion form, but just write a note describing the ad you want stopped. Or contact [email protected] or 319-235-3516.Robin Nicholson, Marketing &Communications

Q: How do we contact the “old” retire-ment plan that was ended before the 401K program started? We have not received a statement since 2011.A: Statements are no longer required to be sent. Contact AskHR or [email protected] to get any specific information that you are looking for regarding the pension. Steve Sesterhenn, HR

Q: Is it sanitary to have carpet in patient areas? Especially if they have accidents or are in isolation while ambulating?A: From an infection control standpoint, the use of carpet in patient rooms is not recommended. Compared to hard floor surfaces, carpet is more dicult to keep clean, especially after spills of body and blood substances. New carpeting be-comes contaminated very quickly. Even after cleaning, carpet bacterial levels soon return to pre-cleaning levels. With that said, there is little evidence linking carpet contamination with incidence of hospi-tal-acquired infections. Here at Allen and at most hospitals, carpeting is not used in patient rooms. However, carpeting is used in the hallways of many units to decrease the noise levels. Please keep in mind that whether floors are carpet or hard surface, they should always be considered dirty. If anything falls on the floor, consider it contaminated.Michelle Heine, Infection Prevention

GI Nurses & Associates WeekThis year from March 23 through March 27, DHC will be celebrating GI Nurses and Associates week. We hope you’ll accept our invitation to join the party by replying with your 90th birthday gift. Henry B. Allen could never have imagined the impact his gift made 90 years ago. Just imagine the impact we can make today by giving back together to celebrate.

Sincerely,

Pam DelagardellePresident and CEOUnityPoint Health – Waterloo

P.S. Last year the Allen Foundation returned more than $1.1 million to the hospital and college. Your gift is a gift that keeps on giving.

I wish to make a birthday gift.

Giving & Receiving

You’re invited to a very special party with a very special guest list—the associates of Allen Hospital, College, Foundation, Home Care and UnityPoint Clinics. It’s a party that lasts all year with gifts that keep on giving.

Allen Hospital began as a gift to the people of Waterloo. Ninety years ago in 1925, Henry B. Allen gave his friends and neighbors $200,000 and 80 acres of land to build a hospi-tal. Today, we care for more patients than any other Cedar Valley hospital. Allen College, which started just a year later, now prepares 600 students every year for nursing and health science careers.

Allen started with a gift. In keeping with that, we invite you to be a part of our 90th birthday celebration by making a special tax-deductible gift back to the Allen Foundation. Your contribution will be put in a capital equipment fund to keep on giving, and we’ll publish the names of every donor who helps us celebrate, unless you choose to remain anon-ymous.

You may make your gift to the Allen Foundation as a one-time donation, through earned time or by payroll deduction.

If you’re feeling festive, return your pledge or check inside a birthday card. We’ll display all cards in the Allen Café. No matter what gift you bring to the party, whether it’s ninety cents a pay period or a one-time gift of $90 or more, you’ll be part of a special celebration that only comes around once.
