Well done - Zane C (M16) State School Victoria golf event

Zane played in the State School Victoria Golf Event recently at the National

Golf Courses , Long Island. This was a terrific opportunity to play with some

experienced young boys with the aim to make it through to the regional finals to be held in

November. In his first event of this type, Zane competed well but was unsuccessful in

progressing to the next level. The cold and windy conditions were not ideal, so we trust that the

experience gained will be great for his future endeavours. It was a great day out and a great

experience, with the winning boys' players shooting a score of 1 under par on the day, really excellent

scoring in the circumstances. Zane will continue to practise in his chosen sport and we wish him all the best

for his next event.

School Improvement Partnership—Improving writing at KPPS.

At the start of this school year, Kingsley Park was fortunate to be selected by the Department of Education and

Training (DET) to participate in a key school improvement initiative, part of a suite of initiatives to be implemented

from 2017-2021. With a strong focus on working in collaboration with schools to share innovation and apply best

practice from across Victorian schools, the initiatives support our school to continue to improve student learning

outcomes with a focus on building learning confidence and opportunities for success for all students.

Schools chosen for the initiatives demonstrated that they had the foundations in place to gain the most from a new

school improvement opportunity. The initiatives provide an exciting opportunity for our staff to work in partnership with

Kingswood primary School on evidenced based, supported, school improvement practices. The basis of our support

has been on improving productive meeting time with a strong focus on discussing data and improved practice based

on the data needs. We have challenged ourselves specifically with improving student writing, beginning with improved

conferencing and feedback on the writing process. We encourage you to discuss with your child any differences they

feel in how their writing is coming along. Students should be more aware of and able to articulate their learning goals

and areas they have been working on.

We look forward to sharing further development and the impact of this work with you later in the school year.

The Magical Library. By Jessica S12.

“Hi, I’m misunderstood Nikki, I know my name sounds girl like but I’m a boy.” Boasted Nikki. “Nikki, dear, can you help me sort out The Animal Books from

A-Z?” Asked his mother politely with a smile. “Positive - I mean yes.” Answered Nikki. While Nikki was dealing with an unruly pile of The Animal Books, a

glowing Dinosaur World book caught Nikki’s eye immediately. “Whoa, I wonder what will happen If I touch this mysterious beauty.” though Nikki.

All of a sudden, Nikki heard a CRASH! He ran to identify what happen but It turned out to be a juvenile boy who fell out of his chair. Nikki rushed

awkwardly back to the book, it was not there so Nikki shouted with rage, “WHERE IS MY BOOK?!” His mother heard him. “Nikki, for being loud in my

library you get a 7 minute time out.” Shushed Nikki’s mother.

7 Minutes later…

Over in the distance, Nikki spotted a man in a leather jacket holding a book. It was not just a ordinary book, it was Nikki’s glowing book! The man trotted

nervously to the borrowing area. “Stop!” Hesitated Nikki, “That’s MY book!” The man glanced at Nikki. “Oh, sorry, I just thought it would be cool If I read It,

by the way, I’m Bill, and you are?” Asked Bill handing Nikki the book. “I’m Nikki.” Replied Nikki. Nikki’s mother was in the borrowing area at her desk.

“What’s all the commotion?” Questioned Nikki’s mother with a serious tone. Bill had checked out a book about ‘Pills and Medicine’.

“Bill, you have a book 10 years overdue.” Said Nikki’s mother. “I’m not paying the fees - Nikki, there is a Frog Wizard on you.” Said Bill courageously. “Read it, read it, read it.” Continued the Frog. The Frog transformed a book into a star-

fish, basically because the book was about starfishes! He manufactured a chair and turned it into a dancing rubber.

“Let’s face it,” announced Nikki. “This story is too wacky, weird and what not!”

Don’t forget to come dressed as your favourite book character this Friday,24th August, to help celebrate Book week.

THE MAGICAL LIBRARY By Rada “Have you ever felt worthless, like you don’t even care? Yeah I feel it to but it’s ok!

There was a boy Nikki he is 12 years old, he is unusual and depressed, he is usually at the library because his mother works there he loves reading. He has read all the books except one but wait I’m getting way to ahead of the story, to all started one morning when Nikki was walking back to the library he tripped on a rock “OW” he cried, he got up and ran there. He walked through the doors and grabbed a book to read suddenly… the book had light shining out of it “W-where am I?” Said Nikki faintly.

“You’re on the ground” spoke a mysterious man, Nikki got up and brushed himself off, he looks up “WOAH! What is this place?”

“This is inside your book!”

He gasps “I NEED TO GET OUT!!” panicked Nikki.

The mystery man was quieter than a mouse.

“UH HELLO?!” said Nikki suspiciously. Everything was silent, Nikki walked over to a peculiar looking place, he walked inside… it was a library!! There were millions of people. Suddenly a man in all black came out of nowhere and said in an extremely deep voice “Do you want to get out of here?” He scared Nikki so bad that he fell over! When he looked up he blushed it appears he got shy. “Yeah I do want to go home” he whispered.

“Find the book you were reading then turn to page 62 and say ‘bring me home’” he replied.

Nikki walk with his head down into the isle he pulls his hood over his head gently and finds the book, he walks over to the table and opens the book to page 62 and whispers “I want to go home,” he got sucked in!

“Ugh my head,” Nikki groaned.

“NIKKI!” cried his mother. She had tears dripping onto Nikki’s clothes “Muuum your getting my clothes wet” said Nikki, his mum laughed, it started to pour down with rain so they went inside and the last I heard they moved to California and Nikki’s mum found a special someone and Nikki has a little baby sister his mum also became a lawyer and his step-dad was a sports teacher and he taught Nikki how to play soccer. They were all a big happy family.

And that my friends was the story of Nikki.

The Magic Library by Logan

On a dark and gloomy night a strange sense overcome the smallish town and entered the soon to become Magic Library. Within the Library a 12 year old boy named Nikki was at his mum’s library, he was a bit lonely at the library he never had the confidence to hang out with others.

He was searching for a new book when a Nikki heard a shaking type noise and saw a mysterious glow. It was coming from a book he was more than a little disturbed about his unique discovery. He grabbed the book, it wasn’t called anything apart from Journey. With all his will and courage Nikki opened the book and was sucked in!

Nikki opened his eyes to this wonderland of a place, his mum’s library. He thought he must have fallen asleep while reading again and the book no more than a dream. Nikki walked outside and that was when he saw this jungle it was dark, foggy and overall spooky it looked like the scene of a horror movie, Nikki was gobsmacked and passed out.

When Nikki awoke he saw this thing covered in armour and it spoke, it told him he needed to collect ink from the water, paper from the trees, and leather from anywhere.

The armoured figure warned him that it was his only way home. He had to complete them before sunset or his fate here was sealed. Nikki was racing he had a leather belt he gave it to the unique figure. He remembered seeing a glass jar that was at the counter being at the library so often, went outside to find a stream. It was black so he assumed it was ink he dunked the jar in the streams drowning the jar with ink, he gave it to the peculiar figure.

He was now looking for paper on trees he saw trees but no paper. Until he looked up the leaves were paper. He looked for the perfect piece and precisely picked it off the branch, Nikki gave the immaculate piece to what it pleaded was the guardian of this library.

The guardian grabbed a quill and started writing on the paper with the ink. The items spectacularly fused together and the glistening book was revealed. Nikki opened it and was transported back to the magic library.

When he gets back dazed from his day of magical adventure he has to go to school. His mum was asleep on the leather chair so he didn’t want to

disturb her, he went to school. This whole adventure had impacted his life drastically and he felt more confident about himself and turned out to

become a better person after that magic adventure.

The Magical Library by Sarah S12

Two long tragic days ago, I was sitting bored at a table in my mum’s library. By the way, my name is Nikki. I’m a shy girl and I have only one friend, her name is Louise, she is sitting at the table with me. Then something peculiar caught our eye.

We slowly stand up and approach a shelf, we see a book violently shaking. Louise instantly suggests we inform my mum but I ignore the idea and pick it up. I read the first page and out of nowhere it sucks me into it! I land on my back in a damp, dark, spooky place.

I walk for hours until I find a puny town. All the people there were insane! They were running around from house to house. I have to admit it was pretty hilarious, it looked like the Sims! Then a strange man approached me. He said “I’m your guardian it’s nice to meet you.” He startled me a bit. “Hi I’m Nikki it’s nice to meet you” I mumbled.

He asked me to follow him, guiding me to an imposing castle. He led me inside and said ‘You need to make a book if you want to escape from this one.’ Then out of nowhere in a puff of smoke he disappeared. All he left behind was a single note. The note said to make this book you will need leather which you will find in the room upstairs, paper which you will find on a table under the staircase and ink which you will find down the hall. So I head off to find the leather.

I step up the creaking stairs one by one until I find the leather. Then I slowly tip-toed back down the stairs to get the paper, then I run to get the ink. I put the book together and something spectacular happened, the book slowly started to rise into the air. All of a sudden it pulled me into it.

I found myself standing in my mum’s library. I spy Louise crying whilst telling my mum what had happened. Then I walk out from behind the

shelf and Louise runs and hugs me and my mum said “I’m so glad you’re back, I was so worried.” We urgently grab the book and put it in the

shredder. Then we go out for ice-cream.

What fun and excitement students in M11, M17 and M19 had completing a raft during S.T.E.M. / Connect

time last Friday!

They were able to be scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians and by working in a collaborative way, were able to follow a design brief, construct their raft and then test their raft to ensure it floated without the paper gingerbread man getting wet! There were modifications made along the way and many successful rafts. Some were able to design a raft with a propeller or put their gingerbread man in a capsule. The teachers were super impressed with the children’s positive approach to this task and look forward to further STEM tasks.

After months and months of preparation, many rehearsals and hours of hard work, it was “About Time”! On Wednesday 1st August the wait was finally over, and the Kingsley Park students took to the stage to present our first whole school production “It’s About Time”. And what a huge success it was! Dinosaurs stomped, composers conducted, hands jived, flappers danced, Bowie sang, The Wall was torn down, the Dean schemed and Professor P Pumpernickel finally proved to the world that time travel really is possible! Two performances on the one night was a huge effort for the entire school community, but what amazing performances they were! Huge congratulations has to go to the entire cast of year sixes who worked tirelessly for many weeks learning lines and perfecting their roles, as well as the backstage crew who managed scene changes and prop distribution brilliantly. I hope you look back on your final year at Kingsley Park and remember with pride, the effort you went to, to put on such a fantastic production. We are incredibly proud of our students (and staff!) who all pulled together to make this night happen. It takes a huge amount of work to put together a whole school production, let alone a completely original show! And a show isn’t a show without the support of family and friends, so thank you to everyone who organised costumes, purchased tickets and came along to cheer on our amazing students. Huge thanks to: The entire staff who choreographed items and organised their classes, Mrs Gilbert and the prop committee for constructing all of our props, Mrs Kenway for taking photos on the night, Miss Westhead for putting together the program, Mr Brand and Mr Gardner for putting together the “travel videos”, Mr Gardner for cutting together all of the music, Miss Westhead and Mr Bloomfield for writing the entire show

I can’t wait to see what our next show will be! Stay tuned…… Mrs Emery

FINALLY…… our new bike shed is complete.

Many students are enjoying the spacious new bike/scooter shed that has finally been completed. Many thanks to Bendigo Bank for granting us $2000 to help with costs. Thanks to Elisa May (School Council

rep and parent of Leah and Holly) for organising quotes and the works. It looks great and just in time for spring when we get more bike riders to school.

On behalf of Team SRC, it is my great honour to announce that whole-school composting is about to begin!

Yesterday all grades received a white bucket and laminated poster explaining what can and can't be

composted. SRC's discussed the process with their class.

Our goals are to:

reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill

save our school money by reducing the amount of rubbish needing disposal

ultimately, with the help of our worms, produce a natural fertilizer for our new 'Turn Your Frown Upside

Down Garden'

How will it work?

Each day at 1:10pm, SRC's will take bucket and scraps down to the composting bin. There will be an

announcement for the first few days. Mr Brand will be at the garden to supervise.

The emptied buckets will be returned and left at or near the classroom.

After lunch, or as soon as convenient, SRC's will wash out the buckets at their classroom sinks, making

the buckets all ready for the next day.

Please list problems you foresee with the process below.

Thanking you, and looking forward to doing our part toward a cleaner, greener planet.

Councillor Liam Savage, on behalf of Team SRC.
