Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you have had a good week and have not noticed any marked differences in your child’s well-being during testing week. I'm happy to report that all Year 6 pupils attended their SATs tests, even those with the odd ailment and bump!
I have been really pleased with the attitude and determination of all pupils during the course of the week. We have done our utmost to minimise stress and to support everyone in the most appropriate way, given their age and level of maturity. The results will be out in July along with end of year reports and will be reported in the format of a standardised score; 100 working at national standard; 110 working at greater depth. Any pupil that has not met the national standard we will receiving some additional catch up work in Year 7, details of which are included on our website. They will sit a further assessment in Year 7, enabling us to plan, deliver and report on their progress.
I have delivered assemblies to both KS2 and KS3 this week on behaviour expectations and targets for next term. I hope you can support school by discussing the following areas of focus:
1. Working really hard in lessons and behaviour for learning for the summer term.
2. Uniform (keeping standards met).
3. Great behaviour in times of lower supervision, including appropriate language used (this helps with developing independence).
Have a good weekend.
Mr L Roberts

Vocations Information Update #2 On Thursday this week here in school, we held our day of prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood, Religious, Married and Consecrated Single Life. Classes from Year 6 who have been studying Vocations as part of the RE Curriculum and Year 7 pupils who are preparing to be Confirmed in their Catholic Faith and are considering their academic life post KS3, spent some quality time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel. As part of the quiet time with the Lord and their teachers, they were encouraged to write a special prayer for themselves to ask God to help them with their decisions and future choices. They used this time to think more deeply about their own life and what they felt God may be calling them to do. It gave them the chance to take some time out from the normal school day and reflect and pray about this important area in their lives. It has come as a very opportune time, especially as the Year 6 Pupils have been involved all week with their studies and SATs tests. May we keep our young people in our prayers as they work through this important time in their lives. May the Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Good Studies and our Holy Patron, Saint Bede the Venerable inspire and guide them as they seek to do their best and reach their full potential. May we ask the Holy Spirit to pour out all His Gifts, Fruits and Graces upon our Confirmandi as they continue in their personal and spiritual preparation for Confirmation in July. May we continue to keep all our Archdiocese of Birmingham Seminarians in our prayers and remember them as they continue with their studies. St John Vianney, Pray for them. As we shall be preparing for the special focus Year there will be regular updates on our Twitter feeds @StBedesMiddle and @BedesRE. There will also be regular write-ups in the newsletter. Do keep checking for new updates here and on the Website!

Pentecost Sunday
“When Pentecost day came around, the apostles had all met in one room, when suddenly they
heard what sounded like a powerful wind from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire
house in which they were sitting.” Acts of the Apostles 2:1,2
This weekend will be the celebration of the great feast of Pentecost, the ‘Birthday of the Church’.
Pentecost is a Greek word meaning ‘Fiftieth’ and was a Jewish harvest festival called ‘Shavuot’ which
would be celebrated to thank the Lord for all His goodness to them as provider and sustainer of His
people. Jews still celebrate Shavuot also known as the Festival of Weeks (Jesus Himself would have
celebrated this feast along with His disciples.) On this special day already holy to the Jews, some fif-
ty days after Jesus had risen triumphantly from the dead, the promised Gift of the Holy Spirit is giv-
en to all the disciples and Mary, the Mother of Jesus was with them. Thus the early Christian church
was born.
We too have received this promised gift of the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity when we received
our Baptism. This made us children of God and members of His Family. The Holy Spirit strength-
ens us every time we receive Jesus in Holy Communion at Mass and when we come together to cele-
brate the Eucharist. He also moulds and shapes up into the people we are to become through the
healing Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession.
We are now entering into the season of Ordinary Time. As the beauty of creation is all around us
with the blossoms on the trees, the lovely spring sunshine with flowers bursting into life with all
their colours, we are to thank our loving God for all He has provided for us in our lives. Let us also
ask Him to come to us in a new and deeper way as we pray Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your
faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love! Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created
and You shall renew the face of the earth.
O Holy Spirit of God, Who descended upon the Apostles and filled them with your power and wisdom, watch over me and guide me in all my thoughts and acts. Never let me forget to call on you whenever I need help. O Holy Spirit, Spirit of Truth, come into our hearts and shine the brightness of your light on all people, that they may be one in faith and pleasing to you. Amen

Mini Vinnies Weekly update #22
18th May 2018
The Mini Vinnies this week enjoyed their Monday meeting in the midst of a very busy week with SATs and GL testing taking place! We spent some time reflecting upon the previous Sunday’s Gospel reading and as part of our activities together the young people drew around their hands and wrote down how they use their hands to help others, be better Mini Vinnies and serve God.
They were encouraged to think about their gifts and talents and how they could use these better to live out being grateful and generous in their day to day lives. They also wrote a prayer to thank God for all they have received and how they can better share their gifts and talents with others, especially their brothers and sisters in need.
You can check out the latest updates also on our school Twitter Feed on @StBedesMiddle and
@BedesRE.
More updates to follow. Keep reading and pray for us as we continue to be faith-filled, hopeful
for the future and as we live our lives as Grateful and Generous Mini Vinnies!

Junior Apprentice Programme
Thanks to Cooks Garden Centre, Stourport for helping us to stock and design our new Prayer
Garden with the Junior Apprentice Programme team .
The Year 8 cricket season started this week and we are already are two games in. Monday night saw us welcome Woodfield for Mr Stenning's debut on the cricket field. The boys played really well and notched up an impressive 81-1 target in 12 overs, with Lewis top scoring with 20 runs. The boys bowled well and Woodfield could only manage 33 runs. On Thursday, we took the trip to Ridgeway for a tougher test. This time the boys bowled much better but the strength of the Ridgeway squad showed, keeping us to 43 runs, with Zain top scoring. Ridgeway matched that target and secured victory with a couple of overs to spare. With a 50% success rate this week it is up to the boys against Birchensale next Tuesday to secure victory.

Year 7 National Basketball Finals
Year 7 Boys qualified for the National Finals, which were held last Friday at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester. An early, 6am, start was overcome by a McDonalds breakfast or two for some.
First game saw us play Liverpool champions, Helsby High School. Despite a brilliant start, which saw us race in to a 6 point lead, we held a 2 point lead at half time. Unfortunately, Helsby’s height domination paid off in the third quarter and we ended up losing 54- 30. In the second game, we played Holy Trinity School from London who were Jr NBA champions last year. They were a fantastic team but our boys never gave up, and ended up scoring more points in the last quarter, but lost out 54 – 22. In the last game we played Aylesbury Grammar School, who had one 6 foot, Year 7 boy, who could slam dunk the ball!! Unfortunately, the boys lost the game but if you had taken his points off the score we would have actually tied. Again, Mr Russell was impressed by how much the boys learned from the day and how much they improved – playing the best in the country is the only way we are going to get better.
Being one of the top 16 schools in the entire country is an achievement they should all be really proud of and their performances and behaviour was, as usual, exemplary.
The squad, who all scored points during the day, was Cameron Campbell, Stan Amos, Haydon Baker, Charlie Fearnall, Tom Price, Oliver Cockram, Krystian Kubala, Callum Walsh and Tom Cronin.

With the increase concern of CSE across Worcestershire, it is so important that parents and carers are aware of the risks and understand how they can protect their child.
If you missed the information evening, the PowerPoint is now uploaded onto our school website - in the Safeguarding Section.
